Atacand
Question: Does the med atacand contain a diuretic? I have been on Avalide; but now the pharmacy wants me to change over to atacand. I need the diuretic as I take a pretty heavy doese of potasssium.
Answer: yes, it contains hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic.
Question: Is there a conflict between Atacand and Dilatrend?
Answer: Nope, these two drugs are used together frequently.
Question: Has anyone taken atacand and gained weight quickly? I have just begun taking this blood pressure medication and have noticed that I have gained 10lbs in about a month. My doctor says it has nothing to do with the medication.
Answer: YES
Question: Has anyone been using Atacand (candesartan) for Migraine prevention? What was typically the frequency with which you got migraine headaches? If you are using or used Atacand, how long have you used it? Was it successful? At what dose did you get a good preventative effect? What side effects did it cause for you? What if you had low blood pressure to start with?
Y es, it is a blood pressure medication. If anyone has used it for blood pressure, please also let me know at what dose, for how long, and if you suffered any side effects? And, yes, it's now being prescribed for migraine prevention.
Chers, is your med helping you? what abouot side effects? i have tried all the other ones you've listed. i could not tolerate their side effects? i have also been a sufferer forever. could you check out the details in my question please?
Answer: I use Lisinopril - another ACE type blood pressure drug. A lot of blood pressure related drugs are now being used for migraines as well. Calcium channel blockers and beta blockers both are as well. Our doctors are also prescribing drugs for epilepsy that the FDA has now cleared as being okay for migraineurs (we the "lucky" migraine sufferers), too. Botox, the drug of choice for the plastic surgery crowd is now being used for migraines, too (I am a botox patient - my neurologist, who is a migraine specialist and an author, lectured on the use of botox in London this year).
I started getting migraines well before I was 10. At that point, we had aspirin (regular aspirin...nothing like Tylenol then) or narcotics. I've had them for well over 40 years. It's incredible how far we've come. No cures yet, but still...wow!
Question: the harms in taking nitroglycerin, toprol, atacand, zetia and niaspan together? my husband is on alot of medicines and has high blood pressure.i just wanted to know by taking all of these medicines is right for him.i dont understand why someone should be on so many medications .
Answer: While I do not know your husband's medical history (or contributing family history) I can try to give you a generic answer that may help, but you should still consider consulting your physician for more detailed answers specific to your husband's prescriptions.
Essential (primary) hypertension (from an unknown cause), accounts for the vast majority of hypertension, but there are many other types of hypertension including secondary, accelerated, malignant, etc. I do not know what your husband has. The recommended treatment for hypertension which has failed management by diet and exercise is to then place the person on medication. there are several ways in which medicine helps treat hypertension, and there several classes of medicines for this purpose. The medicines you list all work in DIFFERENT ways to achieve the same result: a lower blood pressure. Nitroglycerin (nitrates) dilate blood vessels with a resultant drop in blood pressure for example. Other medicines for blood pressure can include beta-blockers (like the Toprol you mentioned which has a secondary benefit of protecting cardiac muscle by making your heartbeat slower which reduces oxygen deman on the heart muscle--of particular value in someone with elevated blood pressure since they will not get maximum oxygen in their tissues). Other categories of blood pressure meds can include diuretics (such as HCTZ) or ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, and other drugs are currently being developed.
The addition of meds for BP treatment is usually in steps and gradually sequential; without knowing how high your husband's blood pressure runs or how long he has battled hypertension, it is impossible (and unwise for you to accept) any advice regarding his medication therapy. I urge to you seek the advice of his doctor and if you cannot get satisfactory answers, seek a second opinion.
Question: how many milligrams of toprol would I have to take to equal 12.5 mg of atacand?
Answer: there is no direct equivalency to convert toprol to atacand.
Toprol (metoprolol) is a beta-blocker which slows the heart and lowers the blood pressure.
Atacand (candesartan) is an angiotensin receptor-2 blocker which passively lowers blood pressure (getting rid of water/salt/prevents vasoconstriction - it's complex)
Question: is it safe to use viagra if on atacand blood pressure tablets? i am on 8 mg tablets
Answer: Atacand = candesartan is a very safe drug. No drug interactions of clinical significance have been identified between it and any other medications, including Viagra. The dangerous drug interaction is the one between Viagra and nitrates.
Question: Atacand 8mg daily vs. Norvasc 2.5mg? My doctor just switched me from Norvasc to Atacand. Anyone have any side effects they would like to share on either one? I am also on Levothyronxine 50 mcg and blood levels are coming back Hyper.. which I am kind of shocked because there is no way that I am losing weight... My doctor thinks it could be the Norvasc... and then switched me. I don't feel swollen but I feel a bit heavy [if that means anything; could be the weight :) ] I also hear Atacand is known to give you a cough. Let me know, I haven't taken the Atacand just yet ...
Answer: Never ignore your doc's advice. If their reasoning seems unreasonable or unclear, talk to them before doing something on your own. It could mean life or death.
Atacand (ditto same opening statement with Norvasc): "Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Atacand."
Common Side Effects: back pain, dizziness, respiratory tract infection.
Less Common Side Effects: abdominal pain, broncitis, chest pain, cough, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, joint pain, nausea, runny nose, sinus inflammation, sore throat, swelling, vomiting.
Rare Side Efects: anxiety, blood in urine, depression, difficulty breathing, drowsiness, fever, gastrointestinaldisorders, increased bllod sugar, indigestion, muscle aches, nosebleed, rapid heartbeat, rash, sweating, tingling, tiredness, weakness.
Special Warning: Atacand can cause a severe drop in blood pressure, especially when you first start taking the drug. The problem is more likely to occur if your body's supply of water has been depleted by diurectics (water pills). Symptoms include light-headedness, dizziness, and faintness. Call your doctor if they occur. You may need to have your dose adjusted. If you have kidney disease or congestive heart failure, Atacand must be used with caution.

Question: I have Fibromyalgia......My doctor started me on Atacand.....It seems like muscle pain and tenderness is worse I got chills and felt like have the flu. Everything aches. And skin feels sensitive and muscles.
Answer: Atacand USA or Candesartan (kan-de-SAR-tan) belongs to the class of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.
Candesartan works by blocking the action of a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, candesartan relaxes blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure.
Candesartan is also used to treat heart failure and cut down on the number of hospital visits for heart problems.
Suggest you telephone your Doctor!
Best of Luck
Question: ATACAND 4mg? WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THIS MEDICATION
Answer: Atacand - Candesartan cilexetil - controls high blood pressure. It works by blocking the effect of a hormone called angiotensin II. Unopposed, this substance prompts the blood vessels to contract, an action that tends to raise blood pressure. Atacand relaxes and expands the blood vessels, allowing pressure to drop. The drug may be prescribed alone or with other blood pressure medications. Side effects may include - Back pain, dizziness, respiratory tract infection. Atacand can cause a severe drop in blood pressure, especially when you first start taking the drug. The problem is more likely to occur if your body's supply of water has been depleted by diuretics (water pills). Symptoms include light-headedness, dizziness, and faintness. Call your doctor if they occur. You may need to have your dose adjusted. If you have heart failure, the initial usage of Atacan may cause not only a drop in blood pressure, but also a decline in potassium levels, especially if taken with diuretics. If you have kidney or liver disease, Atacand must be used with caution.
I add a link with details of this drug

Question: Is anyone familiar with Atacand the blood pressure medicine? My boyfriend is 29 years old and the doctor has just started him on Atacand. Can anyone tell me if this is a drug that will cause him to lose his sex drive? I know some blood pressure medicines do. Please any advice will help. Thanks.
Answer: Hello!
well, atacand is quite a new drug for treating hypertension, and quite a good one.
as far as I know it is rare that it will affect sex drive or performance (some of the oldest drugs can affect performance and libido).
hope I helped,
meddy
Question: help,,who is better as a treatment for the main blood pressure, the medisene (micardis)80mg,or (atacand) 16mg?
Answer: Only your doctor can determine the best medication for high blood presure. Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 tries of different medications before finding the one that works for you. Everyone is different.
Question: Can you take 3 different blood pressure tablets in 1 day.? Zanadip 20mg...Atacand Plus 16/12.5 mg and Noten 50mg..My father takes these my mind boggles? Prescribed by a doctor or do you think a mistake has been made with medication?
Answer: yes. what he gets was combined therapy. one patient can get different groups of drugs to help with the hypertension. for example- combination of AT2inhibitor with beta blockers
or a-blckers with beta blockers.
diff groups helps in diff way. overdoses of one group is bad therefore combination therapy is the choice.
Question: Is it safe to drink green tea with? Is it safe to drink green tea with ginseng while taking low-dose aspirin, atacand and zetia.
Answer: Green tea should be harmless in any reasonable amount. The only possible bad effect I can think of is that too much caffeine can raise your blood pressure, which would undo some of the good effects of the atacand. But 2-3 cups a day should be fine, and if it doesn't affect your BP, even more should be okay.
Generally pharmacists are a good source of information about drug interactions. And easier to get to speak with than having to wait to see a doctor, who probably doesn't know that much about the subject anyway.
Question: 80 year old mother has just begun heavy regular menstral bleeding approx 28 day interval 10 day duration? She has undergone blood tests and ultrasound and other tests that seem to rule out cancer. Are there other possibilities. She takes Voltaren occasionally, Atacand daily, Tryptanol daily, Rivotril 1 per week. Does anyone know of similar cases or have any ideas. We would be very grateful
Answer: you must be sure in rouling out cancer you can not confirm without biopsy cervial and uterine it may also secretory cancer that secrete hormones it may be in liver or ovary or in any other place this is extremly dangerous and you must take care that is not normal i am a medical student in ain shams uni in egypt
Question: Microscopic blood in Urine was found it was * 10. No UTI. Dr has ask me to see specialist. what is possibility? Doctor has asked me to see specialist. what could be the cause. I do smoke 6 to 7 sticks and social drinker. I am on hypertension drug Atacand 8mg 1 tablet every morning. What could be the cause?
Answer: Here is the information I located for you. I will give you the link so you can read more about it.
The evaluation for blood in urine consists of taking a history, performing a physical examination, evaluating the urine under a microscope, and obtaining a culture of the urine. A significant history would include whether or not there was any pain or discomfort associated with the hematuria, whether the blood was present in the beginning, end, or throughout the urinary stream, and finally, whether there is a personal history of smoking, kidney stones, injuries to the urinary tract, trouble urinating, or previous urologic evaluation.
What are the causes of blood in urine (hematuria)?
There are multiple causes of blood in urine. Some are serious, including cancers, trauma, stones, infections, and obstructions of the urinary tract. Others are less important and may require no treatment. These may include viral infections, nonspecific inflammations of the kidney, medications which thin the blood's clotting ability, and benign prostate enlargement.
No matter how obvious the reason for hematuria appears to be, a complete evaluation is almost always necessary to rule out a serious underlying disease, such as a cancer. There are usually three diagnostic tests necessary to give us a look at the entire urinary tract, and these include a computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen and pelvis, cystoscopy, and a urine cytology.
Hope everything turns out well for you. Good luck!
Question: Queries regarding hypertension? My mum has hypertension since giving birth to me. She has been taking blood pressure medications for years. For last few years, she has been taking atenolol, atacand plus, and plendil (filodipine). Recently, I found out that she stopped taking atacand plus and atenolol for two months without consulting her doctor, but only takes atacand plus and plendil when she feels a headache. She is very nervous about measuring her blood pressure because everytime her blood pressure was measured and the results showed she had hypertension. She felt really tired especially after taking plendil. Is it possible that plendil (or any hypertension medicastions) the cause of her tiredness? She is in her fifties and suffering menopause. Is there a cure for hypertension?
Answer: ah! are you sure she felt tired after taking plendil not atenolol? atenolol is part of a class of drugs that takes alot of patience and good adherence too. it works by slowing down the heart and therefore lowering blood pressure. it usually takes a LONG time to get a patient up to the regular dose of atenolol that is needed to work properly and also takes a while for a person to slowly discontinue the drug. when you first start taking atenolol she probably got symptoms such as shortness of breath, tiredness, lowered exercise tolerance...which are all normal and expected. if she stops taking it abruptly it can bring those symptoms back and may explain her tiredness.
plendil is usually well tolerated and isn't known to usually cause tiredness..neither i atacand plus. she should really let her dr/pharmacist know that she stopped taking those medications...and depending on how long it has been since she stopped, she shouldnt just start them up abruptly. that's because taking 1 dose of any one of those medications (except maybe atancand plus) won't do much in terms of lowering blood pressure. and if it did, the effects wouldnt last long.
low salt diet, healthy low fat diet, weight loss, exercise (important in perimenopausal women!) will all help.
did she have her blood sugars tested recently? it's common for mothers to get diabetes (gestational diabetes) after pregnancy and for it to continue afterwards. diabetes can cause hypertension...but bottom line, she should contact her dr/pharmacist

Hydrochlorothiazide can interfere with the results of a thyroid test. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using this medication.
If you are being treated for high blood pressure, keep using this medication even if you feel fine. High blood pressure often has no symptoms.
Store Hyzaar at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

She told me it is just the co2 while breathing caused you to become anxious and then this happened...etc but i told her i am not and i have been feeling like this for a week , she said dont worry it is nothing and did not give me any medication. The next day i still did not feel ok i went to my family doctor told him everything and he ordered blood test urine and again ekg and all came normal later on but he told me your blood pressure is high, so he told me come back in 3 days to check it back, the same day i went to pharmacy in the evening to check my bp i was not feeling ok at all and my blood pressure was 148/101 i then directly went to the ER short of breath high bp, burping a lot, dizzyness pain behind left breast bone like pinches or squeezing and shots of burning , they did blood tests ekg and x rays and again all came normal, i was sent home again with nothing and no medicine, then after 3 days i went back to my family doctor and he cheked again my bp and it was still high and he put me on Atacand 16 mg one pill a day, after few days my blood pressure began to improve but my energy was still low short of breath on exercising even daily activities , walking up hill, stairs, i used to play tennis not anymore like before and swiming full length for 45 minutes not anymore, just walking , then a week passed and went back to my family doctor to check my bp and he said your bp is improving, and it is ok now, i told him i am not feeling ok and i know my body and i am burping a lot and i am getting tired and fatigue a lot, he then told i will order a looper for you to record when the symptoms appear to record and also an echcardiogram, so i did the echocardiogram at rest and a week later i recieved the results and also gave them back my looper since i recorded what was happening with me for just 6 times out of 10, i still did not get the louper or holter results yet since igave it back only a week ago , but my doctor recieved my echocardiogram results and my results came normal all normal measurements and normal lv and valves with mild or some traces and summary results was normal study. Answer: okay I read all of this so what is your question? Yes all these things can show up negative and there still be something that is making you feel bad. Have the done a VQ lung scan on you to make sure you don't have a P.E.? Pain should be greater with deep inspiration but not always. Sounds like all non invasive procedures have been taken the only other thing you could ask for is Adenosine or Dobutamine stress test, or a Cardiac Angiogram. What is it that is your question with this long explination

From this report what can you tell me or advice me, and what is my possibility of having a heart problem or diseasr or cornary arteries, because recently i have short of breath numbeness pain and bruise behind breast bone tired not excercising like before...etc.
Is there any connection between my report and my symptoms.
I also had recently like 40 days ago high blood pressure and taking atacand 16 mg but sometimes my blodd pressure goes to 90/ 59 or 100/ 70 and sometimes 115/75 and 108/77
When i went to the ER also 40 days ago they did 2 side x rays and blood work and ekg at rest they all came normal sinus rhythm and heartrate: 75 bpm.
My family doctor also asked me for a urine and blood test 3 or 4 weeks ago and al came normal.
I also did in Dec 2008 a stress ecg exam my hr: 85 bpm at rest and bp: 128/82 ECG Normal
Stress Data Protocol Bruce , Duration 12 minutes
Maximum HR 165 BPM Maximum BP 152/80
Target HR: 88%
Symptoms : None
Negative stress ECG
There were no significant ST segment changes over baseline during excercise.
From all those exams what can you say about my case , they always when they dont find anything they say anxiety which is not true, i still have short of breath and fatiogue loss of apetite ...etc and i still did not get yet my holter and louper results.
What should i ask my doctor to do next for me because my situation did not change really , is there anythign they ignored in my reports that might cause me all this. Do i ask for Cath now or what shall i do. What could the cause be.
Thank you
Answer: I am not sure the answer that you are expecting here but it looks as you have everything under control . Seek a second opinion if need to be . I want to add that I have high pressure and there is no reading the same at anytime in fact you blood pressure isn't high at all Out of breath I would get a second opinion but your answers from a cardiologist not on Yahoo .Good luck
