Azmacort
Question: Question About Dosage Of Azmacort? ok i was just prescribed azmacort im suppose to take 2 puffs 2 times daily but im not sure how long i should wait inbetween each dosage and i cant get in touch with my dr right now so anyone have any idea?
i wasnt giving a prescription due to me not having insurance he gave me samples no where does it say what im looking for
Answer: About every 12 hours (give or take). So, if you get up @ 7am do it then & again @ 7pm. Also, wait about one minute between each puff. There's something about the aeorsol or whatever they use to compress it needs to settle.
Question: Azmacort and albuterol? I have been on albuterol inhaler for a while and my doctor just added Azmacort to my list. I take Azmacort three times a day now: 10am, 5pm, 10pm. My question is.. do I still use my albuterol? If so when do I use it with the schedule I'm on with Azmacort?
Answer: Azmacort is meant to prevent symptoms of asthma in the first place. it does not treat sudden symtoms of attack.
Thats why you still need the albuterol, aka the rescue inhaler, which Does treat acute symptoms of asthma like an attack.
The two are safe when used in combination...but everyone has an individual response to medications...so you should always be on alert for an adverse reaction when starting a new med.
After you are on the azmacort for a bit, if you are someone with mild asthma, you should notice a decreased occurance in your acute asthma attacks/symtoms and therefore, most asthmatics on a drug like azmacort do not need the albuterol as often, (i hardly ever need mine for instance once i started a maintancence drug like azmacort) They usually then use the albuterol only on an as needed basis..not on a schedule which you may have been origionally on. HOWEVER: it is very important no matter how good your asthma gets that you keep an albuterol inhaler on hand in case of an emergency!!!
Its sad that advair costs 200$ a month b/c when I have it, i have no asthma symptoms at all...but i dont have insurance right now. someday soon though ill be getting it :) GL!
Question: Anyone take Azmacort? Does anyone take Azmacort? I am going to start taking it soon because I was getting side effects from Asmanex.
How well do you like it? I hear it is like the rescue inhaler. How many times a day do you use it?
Answer: Azmacort is an older inhaled steroid. It is usually taken three or four times a day. In addition, it's relatively weak. Asthmanex (I was on it for four months before being switched to Advair) is pretty strong. It is equal it 330 mcg of Flovent, as Asthmanex is only available in one strength. You would have to take a lot of Azmacort to equal that.
Azmacort is an inhaler, like a rescue inhaler. It has a built-in spacer to make drug delivery more effective. The problem is that the spacer is really too small to be effective and the steroid is much weaker compared to Asthmanex.
In my opinion, Azmacort is an inhaled steroid to be used for people who have been on it without problems for years. If you are being started on an inhaled steroid or switched to another, I think a newer one might be more effective. Flovent is the standard of inhaled steroids currently. It can be comparable to Asthmanex for strength. Flovent is part of Advair and I've been taking it for a while. In high doses, like Advair 500/50, I find that my stomach gets a bit upset. I take Advair 250/50 presently (similar to what you would be put on) and I'm doing well.
Azmacort is usually taken three or four times a day. Flovent is taken twice a day. Asthmanex is usually taken once or twice a day. If you were put on Flovent, I think that you could take a dose comparable to Asthmanex in the same interval.
If your issue is with the dry powder of Asthmanex, there are many inhaled steroids available as Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs, like rescue inhalers). Included in these are Flovent. A Flovent MDI does not have a space attached to it. You can get one separately for about $40 with a doctor's prescription. Aerochamber is a great holding chamber to use. Some models are even dishwasher safe (check instructions before trying that).
Question: Side effects of Azmacort? Does Azmacort cause mucous?
Answer: No it doesn't cause mucus.
Question: Can someone please tell me an alternative to the asthma drug Advair? I do not want to take this anymore..
Please give me an alternative..
Is the drug Azmacort any good??.Please help me out..Thanks!
Answer: All asthma is allergic asthma, It might not be triggered by the normal allergens but the end result is an allergic reaction.
The best non medication treatment for asthma is to learn the asthma triggers and avoid them. Daily monitoring of peak flows with a peak flow meter can help detect the early states of an asthma attack before shortness of breath starts.
If you are unable to identify the triggers or unable to avoid them, a prescription medication is needed. Everyone who has been diagnosed with asthma should have a rescue inhaler with them at all times. If you use your rescue inhaler more then twice per week, you will need a controller medication to help prevent asthma.
The best controller medications are inhaled steroids, If an asthmatic uses their medications properly, monitors there peak flows daily and has a good asthma action plan, he/she can live symptom free.
In the US the only other medication like Advair is Symbicourt.
If you want ask your doctor if switching to Singulair is a good option. Its not a steriod. It is a once per day pill to help prevent allergies and asthma.
Other choices are....
Tilade and Intal are inhaled mast cell stabilizers that prevent asthma buy stopping the inflammatory chemicals to be released in the airway.
Xolair is a shot. It is considered a therapeutic antibody. It's an IgE blocker developed to reduce the attacks and symptoms of allergic asthma.
Antihistamines can help but not very well alone. Histamines are some of the inflammatory chemicals that are released during a allergic reaction. The next generation of Singulair is said to have an antihistamine in with it.
Question: can azmacort cause urinary hesitancy?
Answer: Possible side effects include:
headache, agitation, depression, fatigue, insomnia, restlessness, dyphonia (Difficulty in speaking), horseness, throat infections, cataracts, nasal stuffiness/sinusitis, brochospasm, cough, wheezing, dry mouth, dyspepsia (Upper abdominal discomfort, often chronic or persistent, colloquially referred to as "indigestion." ), and nausea
No urinary hesitancy listed
Question: What asthma inhalors do you prefer? I have asthma. I'm not on anything all the time. But now I think I should be. But anyways, what inhalors are you on? I went to the ER and they gave me azmacort. It doesnt seem to be helping very much. I used to be on Asmanex and I really liked it. What do you use? How often? Has anyone used advair? How do you like it? Thanks!!!
Answer: I was on advair and personally I didn't like it. I had lots of side effects (such as jitteriness). I am a little bit (ok a lot) of a worrier and I don't like to hear things like "may increase the risk of asthma related fatalities" I read on another site that advair has a lot of fda warnings but not enough people have died to recall it? Not sure how true that is anyways..
I am going to see a lung specialest next month which I think I should have done years ago (I am 22). My goal is to be able to exercise more.. I am going to Germany/France in March and I want to get things under control so that I can do lots of walking. I go through a pro-air hfa inhaler a month (don't get me started I hate the new HFA inhalers they dont seem to work as well or last as long for me). I will say though that I got my tonsils out 2 years ago at christmas time and it has made a wooorld of difference. Since I was a kid my winters consisted of bronchitis/pneumonia and some combonation of epinefrin, decadron and roseferin shots. I was having multipul episodes of bronchitis in the last few years and since having my tonsils out I have only had one!
In anycase I take singular and albuterol and I am looking to check out the new asmanex inhaler hoping that it wont have as many side effects as advair.
I really hope a day will come when I don't have a panic attack when my inhaler is not in my pocket/purse.
Question: Why am I hoarse and have lots of phlegm? No cold symptoms.? I'm on Azmacort and Albuterol when needed. Could this be the cause? Is there more to wory about?
Answer: sounds like a sinus infection/and or alergy causing drainedge to your throat and making you hoarse.just my oppinion.my doctor just put me on a 5 day antibiotic treatment and a 6 day treatment of methyiprednisolone pills for the same thing.
Question: for those that have read my posts regardning my asthma? i went to the dr today he gave me 3 medicines one is xopenex hfa(levalbuterol tartrate) which he gave me instead of the albuterol cause i think i overdosed on the albuterol and caused my chest tightness and hes says it weaker and has less side effects on your heart..and he gave me a steroid inhaler called azmacort(triamcinolone acetonide) and singulair..just wanted to update all of you and see if you think this is a good selection of medication
Answer: FWIW
I was taking xopenex, I had "side effects" listed in the overdose
literature
I was down to 1 puff a day and still had side effects
Haven't done the other two
Question: Medicine causing trouble again? This summer I started taking Flovent for my asthma which had been previously only treated with albuterol. Well, the Flovent caused some pretty bad anxiety problems that got worse with time and I had to quit taking it. My doctor then had me start taking Azmacort. I had been off my Flovent for about a week and the anxiety was basically gone and I was extremely happy because I felt like myself again. After taking the Azmacort for almost a week I started to wake up in the morning extremely nervous and now any time I eat I feel sick and my stomach gets upset for a bit (though that could be due to the stress caused by the nervousness). I know I need to call my doctor again and tell her I am having trouble with the second medicine, but I am worried that another asthma medicine will mean a new set of symptoms to deal with. Is it common for people to have problems with steroid inhalers (not sure the flovent was a steroid)? If 2 medicines caused problems is it likely that others will too?
Answer: You may not handle inhaled steroids well. When I was on Adavir (Serevent and Flovent), my stomach was upset when I rinsed and swallowed after my treatments (I'm a doofus, I know!). When I did it properly (I should have known better in the first place), my stomach was ok. After taking an inhaled steroid, it is important to gargle thoroughly and spit the water out, and to do this every time.
There are a few different inhaled steroids available. If you're in the USA, there's a great one called Asthmanex. I was on that for four months and it worked well. It's a dry powder inhaler, unlike Azmacort and possibly Flovent. A different delivery device might help with side effects. I have read that inhaled steroids have fewer side effects when taken by metered dose inhaler (MDI) when given through a holding chamber (ie. Aerochamber: a clear plastic tube with a mouthpiece). Azmacort has a holding chamber build into it, but it really isn't large enough to do the job well. A dry powder inhaler like Asthmanex, Pulmicort, or Flovent diskus might be something to talk to your doctor about, if you haven't tried one like that yet.
Since you were on Albuterol alone before, do you think your anxiety could be related to the change away from something you were comfortable with? Inhaled steroids also cause some strange side effects also. When I was taking them, I would blow my nose and see little spots of blood on the tissue. It was a worry for me, but I looked it up in my drug book and found that it is a normal side effect. I lived with it and didn't worry. Medication always has an information sheet with it in the package. You might find it helpful to make yourself familiar with expected side effects so that you won't be surprised by them.
Question: Does anybody have any bad side effects to azmacort? it's an inhaler taken for asthma
Answer: Pulmacort? The reason your doctor prescribed it is because the benefits outweigh sides. Yup.
That being said, I fricken hate steroids, I'm too small to be using them, and I get the side effects that no one else gets. Depression, mood swings, it screws with your cortisone. I only weight 55 kg though, 125 lbs.
Question: albuterol overdose? ok so if you follow my post ive been having tightness in the chest i think i overdosed on my albuterol inhaler these exact feelings happened like 6 weeks ago also originally we thought it was this bronkaid medicine that i tried but i havnt used that since before that and i started to use my inhaler again and i know i use it more then i should but for 2 years it hasnt affected me negativily except for a little nerves but i have tightness in the chest for about a week now my nerves are all over the place im hungry but its hard to eat anything and i have some pain on the left side of my throat and its very hard to breathe..when this happened the first time i had a chest xray ekg urine and blood and everything was fine i just went to the dr the other day he gave me an ekg that was fine but it did get a lil worse after my dr visit and he gave me medicine to control my ashma so i dont have to use the inhaler as much so i started the azmacort but it was making my throat really dry
atleast i thought it was that cause i stopped it and my throat hasnt been as dry i will start the medicine again once this goes way...but do you guys think this is an overdose of the albuterol instead of 2 puffs every 6 hours i took maybe 3-5 at a time..and is there anyway i can speed up the healing process to get back to normal
like i said i went to the dr but hes not in today so i cant get in touch with him your talking about my wording but meanwhile im not here for a writing contest and like i said my nerves are out of wack so im just typing what comes to mind not looking to have the right grammer just looking maybe some advice
Answer: That has got to be the worst run-on sentence or paragraph I've ever seen in my life, and I was a proofreader for many years, and read some really awful stuff. If you think you're having an adverser reaction to albuterol, why in the h*** are you here rambling on about it, and not having this wandering conversation with your doctor or pharmacist.
Question: Asthma medications? Hey, I was wondering if anyone could recommend good non-steroid asthma medications. I was on flovent for a while but it caused me to have pretty terrible anxiety and I was forced to quit using it, though my breathing was a million times better. For several years I was using just albuterol and I was using less than 4 puffs a day. I went to a new doctor however, and she prescribed the flovent. After having trouble with that she tried azmacort and I was still having trouble (though, it's entirely possible that it was lingering side effects from the flovent that I had trouble getting over). Now I am trying singulair and it helps a little but not even close to as well as the flovent and I would really love to breath as well as I was when I was on the flovent again. I have been researching asthma medications and was just wondering if anyone is using a medication that they highly recommend so that I may talk about it with my doctor when I go on friday. Thanks!
Really, any medication, even a steroid, that is extremely unlikely to cause anxiety would be great since that is the only side effect I seem to have a problem getting over.
Answer: Xopenex is similar to Albuterol but significantly stronger. It has low incidence of side effects.
Atrovent can cause some shaking and increased heart rate sometimes, but it can boost Albuterol or Xopenex by using another site in your lungs to help open your airways. A similar drug called Spiriva is once a day and I haven't had any side effects from it.
I was on Asthmanex, a newer inhaled steroid than Flovent and stronger, for 4 months. I didn't have any side effects from it. I get an upset stomach from Advair (Serevent and Flovent) though.
With my asthma, I took Advair 250/50 for 6 days recently because I was having trouble breathing in the heat and humidity. Now that it's not as hot or humid, I'm back on Salbutamol (Albuterol) as needed, like I have been for months. Because of my profession, my doctor gives me a lot of lee-way, so I give myself up to 4 treatments a day (8 Inhalations) before being worried. That is the normal maximum. I don't like inhaled steroids for me because of the fungus (thrush) that develops on my tongue. Before I tried my Advair 250/50, I took Spiriva (like Atrovent but once a day) for about 2 weeks and it was mostly good. It wasn't quite enough though.
Inhaled steroids are great tools for asthma control. But if you can't tolerate them, long acting inhaled bronchodilators might help too. I think the best part of Advair for me was the Serevent. My cough seemed to come back after about 12 hours, when the drug wore off. Because it's long acting, Serevent might work better than Albuterol. In addition, you can still take Albuterol to top it off, if the Serevent isn't enough. Spiriva can also be used with Serevent for long acting asthma control. Using Xopenex as a rescue inhaler might also be a benefit.
Question: Alubterol Overdose? ok so if you follow my post ive been having tightness in the chest i think i overdosed on my albuterol inhaler these exact feelings happened like 6 weeks ago also originally we thought it was this bronkaid medicine that i tried but i havnt used that since before that and i started to use my inhaler again and i know i use it more then i should but for 2 years it hasnt affected me negativily except for a little nerves but i have tightness in the chest for about a week now my nerves are all over the place im hungry but its hard to eat anything and i have some pain on the left side of my throat and its very hard to breathe..when this happened the first time i had a chest xray ekg urine and blood and everything was fine i just went to the dr the other day he gave me an ekg that was fine but it did get a lil worse after my dr visit and he gave me medicine to control my ashma so i dont have to use the inhaler as much so i started the azmacort but it was making my throat really dry

this steroid inhaler comes with a spacer..and im not wheezing or anything like my normal daily symptoms before this is slight shortness of breath and wheezing..the dr i just saw said that this tightness he doesnt think is caused by the asthma cause there is no wheezing and i had this 6 weeks ago and it went away by its self eventully i know i need to take the steroid and the singulair he gave me to control it but right now i feel that with the first few times i used the azmacort it made my throat dry and that made it harder to breathe and singulair has tons of possible side effects so i dont want to add anythign to my problem
Answer: There is no such thing as an albuterol overdose... the most that can happen from high high doses is a increased heart rate and nervousness. I have personally seen patients recieve very high doses of albuterol (even gave very high to my own son) and no adverse reactions occured. However the steroid should only be taken as directed.
For example on the mdi overdose... a normal dose for unresponsive asthma in the hospital is 15puffs, and giving 15 unit doses of albuterol in a nebulizer over an hour is a normal thing.
Question: Non Medical Treatment For Asthma?? i was never officially diagnosed with asthma 3 years ago i woke up and was having problems breathing..went to the dr he gave me albuterol inhaler used it for 3 years i had to use it everyday several times a day for 3 years then i was no longer under insurance and i still had my albuterol but it started affecting me very negativly causing upset stomach, tightness in the chest, extreme anxiety while this happened i took xanax to combat the anxiety and then felt worse on that after about 5 days...im almost positive my breathing problems are due to allergies.i bought an air purifier really hasnt made a huge difference..so as i stand right now i really prefer not using any medicines do to recent events im scared to use anything..i have xopenex inhaler now i was giving azmacort steroid and singulair but to scared to use any of these things due to side effects i might encounter.so im looking for alternative treatments to prevent breathing problems vitamins herbs and other products thanks alot
no the air purifier i got is a honeywell it has hepa filter
Answer: Asthma is an allergy and is triggered by something. The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Common triggers are smoke, dust, mold, mildew, plants, dust mites, pets and grass/weeds.
Medications like albuterol and Xopenex are rescue medications. If you use a rescue medication more then twice a week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need a controller medication.
Question: I am having a second asthma episode at age 48!? I got diagnosed this summer and was put on Azmacort after my chest felt tight. Within five days I was back to normal. Now in December I again have the tightness. The doctor listened to my lungs and said it's asthma. I am on a steroid pack and antibiotic along with the Azmacort. I feel like crap! I have some pain near my ribs, occasionally in my back and tightness in my chest. I also get pain in the middle of my chest in the front. Since this is only my second episode is this normal and how long does the steroids take to relieve any inflammation? Thanks!
Answer: Yeah, I'm afraid you will have problems similar to the ones you described.
Your doctor did exactly the right thing. Make sure you take the whole course of the antibiotic. Some people stop taking it as soon as they feel better.
Did he/she also order an inhaler for you? Something like Ventolin(albuterol). If not you might want to ask about it. It can help if and when you have wheezing.
The pains in your chest are from something called costalchondritis. It's an inflammation of the ligaments and tendons along the sternal border with your ribs. The intercostal muscles(between your ribs) can get overworked and strained when you have an attack or just difficulty breathing. Sorry but at your age you'd be more prone to this than a younger person.
You might want to find out if you have a trigger, something like dust, cat dander, cold air, flowers, etc. These are called allergens. Sometimes just avoiding the allergens will help tremendously.
As to the steroids, what they do is reduce your body's immune response. Your body is overreacting to something and causing the swelling and bronchoconstriction in your airways. Do not deviate from the dose your doctor ordered, please. If you continue to have problems your doctor can handle them him/herself or refer you to an allergist or pulmonologist. But please remember that asthma is controllable and you needn't suffer. Just do what your doctor recommends.
God bless you and keep you healthy.
Question: It hurts to breath when I first wake up.? I am an asthmatic, have been my whole like, i use singular for allergies, azmacort for maintanence and albutoral for relief. Last month my chest started to hurt when i woke up, my first couple of deep breath were extremly painful, i would take my albutoral and the pain would subside, but it would still be painful. Went to the doctor took and EKG which came up perfect and chest x-ray which was perfect to. After about a week of painful breathing especially in the morning, it went away on its own. I still dont know why it came. Now a month later, it is starting again. I sleep perfect at night never waking up for any reason, but when i wake up on my own, my first deep breaths are killing me and i have to run for my inhalar which takes the pressure away, but my chest still feels heavy. I also noticed that when i breath deep the sides of my neck hurt to. What could this be? Could my air conditioner be doing this to me? Any help would be great
Answer: If you are asthmatic air conditioner aren't all that bad for you , and in fact they will purify the air in the house and lower the humidity as well In turn will allow you to breathe easier , it is why pulmonary specialist advise some of their patient to move to Arizona for the dryer conditions. Why is the side of your neck is hurting is beyond my comprehension and would be a good idea upon you next visit or if not sooner to mention to your physician this pain .He is more able to tell when he will examine you .Get well soon and have a great day
Question: How can I control my asthsma? I am on Singulair (at night), Azmacort (one puff in morning and one puff at night), Allegra (in the morning). I also have an at home nebulizer that I use with an Albuterol Sulfate inhailation solution. I am only supposed to use it every 8 hours, but my asthsma is so bad that I'm using it about 4 times a day, everyday. I also have an albuterol rescue inhailor that I was using up to 8 times a day when I didn't have the nebulizer (now I'm using it maybe 2 or 3 times a day. I am only 21 and this interferes with my daily life severely. Does anybody have any suggestions. And for those who are going to ask...no I don't smoke, and I am not around it either. Thanks to everybody in advance for the advice.
Answer: Asthma can not be cured but it can be managed. Asthma is a narrowing of your airways or breathing tubes. Much like a runny stuffy nose, asthma is runny stuffy bronchials (wind pipe and air ways).
Asthma is an allergy and can be triggered by normal every day allergens like smoke and dust. It can also be triggered by other things such as stress. And even though some of the usual allergens don't cause asthma in some people, the end result is the same. An allergic reaction to some stimuli such as stress or emotion. Mast cells will de-granulate and release inflammatory chemicals that will cause the airways to become swollen (inflamed). Then bronco-constriction will come later. So it is an allergic response.
The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your asthma triggers and avoiding them. If you are unable to identify the triggers or if you can't avoid them, you will need asthma medications.
Anyone diagnosed with asthma should have a rescue inhaler with them at all times for that "just in case" moment. If you have to use the rescue inhaler more then 2 times per week, you will need a preventive medication.
You will need an asthma action plan to log your medications and know when to use them. Track your signs and symptoms as well as your peak flow readings.
Some studies show that fish oil has bronchodilating effects (opens airways) however the study gave 8-10 time the recommended amount of fish oil to the test subjects.
Caffeine drinks can have the same effect as inhalers however again, you will need many more times the recommended amount to get any results. Caffeine is in the same chemical family as some of the most popular inhalers.
No one should be limited in their daily activities because of asthma. It can be managed.
Question: Do I have adult on set asthma? I got a really bad flu and was really sick for about a week (high fever, fatigue). After the flu passed, I began to cough violently all day. After a week, it was usually more coughing at night. By week 3, it was getting much better with mild cough at night. It's been about a month and a few days now since I had this cough, and it is getting worse. Now I have violent coughs with wheezing and constricted lungs.
Went to Doctor several times and this past Monday, he tested me and said I probably have asthma. Albuterol helps me a lot with wheezing so I cough a lot less. Azmacort doesn't really do anything for me (that I can notice).
I was wondering if I really have adult on set asthma. To give you some more info. I have been smoking for 11 years, but I smoke around 8 light cigarettes a day. I have mild coughs throughout the day. Most of my violent outbreaks occur at night and in the morning after I wake up. Whenever I wake up from a nap or night of sleep, I always cough up yellow sputum.
Forgot to add that coughing almost always leads to me spitting out very thick, clear sputum. The sputum is only yellow after naps or sleep.
Answer: It's probably not so much adult onset as smoking onset asthma. Certainly any lung damage, like smoking, can cause bronchial constriction and inflammation. The inflammation causes the sputum to accumulate in your bronchii, of course your lungs don't like it much and you cough it out. The Azmacort reduces inflammation, so is more of a long term medication, the Albuterol is your "emergency" inhaler that does quick bronchodilation. It will become less and less effective if you have more and more inflammation ( if you don't use the Azmacort). Time to quit smoking, as continuing to smoke will not only trigger your asthma but also complicate it by adding emphysema or COPD to your issues.
Question: Trouble breathing? Hi as of late ive been short on breath, and i have a slight cold.
I do have asthma and i was a smoker for about 2 years. but i quit smoking about 1 year ago. Well my problem is about 3 months ago i went to the doctors for almost the same problem. But it was much worse then i could not catch my breath at all. He gave me a Pump calld "Azmacort" and that seemd to help right away. But about 3 days ago i started getting this loss of breath again, its not as bad as it was last time. But the difference is i feel sick also. I mean, coughing,Runny nose,Congested. so ive been sleeping with a humidifier on for the past 3 nights and nothing has been getting better can any one gve me ideas of what i can do or what it can be? Thank you
Btw I am age 21
Answer: Its probably a chest infection and you should see a doctor ,a lot depends on your general health and age but whenever breathing is affected you must seek professional help
