Question: hi i have a skin infection round my cuticle what cream should i use? fucidin or bactroban? my thumb if very red and hot! being a mum of 3 and working don't really have time for the docs just wondered if anyone knew what was the best out of these two creams to use!fucidin or bactroban 2% ? thanks for any replys:)
Answer: Hey, Bekks:
The old ones used to call those a "run around" because when they start, usually at the top of your finger, they run all the way around your nail. It's most likely a little bacterial infection (staph is usually what the doctors find when they culture these), so I'd recommend the bactroban or neosporin (triple antibiotic ointment).
You might do well to get a supply of either exam gloves or a box of finger cots. Your pharmacist will be able to show you where to find them in the store. I recommend this as staph is fairly easily spread and you don't want your kiddos getting an infection. Use the protection when you're preparing foods that won't be cooked (sandwiches, salads, cut fruit, etc.). Also, if you're going to do something like clip their nails or anything where your "wound" might come in contact with an open area or mucous membrane.
Finally, do your very best to not rub your eyes or nose or ......... anywhere you might cross contaminate yourself. Hand washing is key! Wash often with antibacterial soap and always before and after your toilette.
If it doesn't clear in a couple weeks, see a physician as you may need an oral antibiotic. Best of luck!

Question: Information about bactroban cream :)....? Hey hey :)
I have like...a fungal toe infection, which isn't nice or pretty to look at, euch >_<
But it's like, starting to spread now, and I was wondering, would bactroban cream work if I apply it every day?? Or do I need another cream...which I probably don't have...? :S
Thank you if you answer! :)
Answer: Sorry, but bactroban is an antibacterial cream. It won't work on a fungus.
If the fungus involves your nails, it's hard to cure and takes MONTHS, If it's between the toes, an over the counter athlete's foot cream should work. If not, try clotrimazole/betamethasone cream (Rx).
Question: The use of bactroban cream on acne? hoookay, so.
My mom recommended that I apply bactroban to my face to help keep me from having any pimples pop up.
I was thinking about it, and this made sense!
It's an anti-bacterial cream
and acne is cause by bacteria.
EUREKA! possibly a miracle product, right?
Well I just wanna know if anyone here has tried using this on acne or pimple and has has any success?
It definatley makes sense, at least in theory.
I have very oily skin, so does my mom, and when I put the bactroban cream on it just feel like my face is FULL of oil (only if I touch it) and if I touch an area where it is applied it comes of SOOOO shiny, like I sipped my hand in oily then dabbed off the excess.
So far I haven't broken out from it and it has been a few days, but Im wondering what you think of the idea and if you think it may eventually break me out (I believe the oil in it is a mineral oil...)
Answer: bactroban is not meant to be used in acne ,
Question: Can I use Bactroban Cream 2% on my tattoo I got 2 days ago? I just got my second tattoo on my leg. Got the first one two weeks or so ago on the other leg. I followed all the aftercare instructions on the first one and it healed beautifully with no scabbing at all. Went back to the same place and had the same guy do my second one, which is similar in size and the area is real read and swollen and painfull. Now on one of the sections on the bottom I noticed that the clear fluidy stuff is getting a little thicker and yellow, like pus. I think I might have a infection or a start of one. I was told not to use Neosporin cause the potroleum in it will draw out the color. My question is can I use Bactroban Cream on it without ruining the ink? or tattoo?
This is a picture of my new tattoo, although this was taken today and it looks much better then it did when i first posted the question

And this is a picture of my first tattoo that I got two weeks ago, this picture was taken the first day I got it.

Answer: I'm sorry to hear you are having concerns about this tattoo. My first thought...is the second tattoo in a spot where the body might react differently to the tattoo...more sensitively than the first spot? Did you have any yellow, orange, or red ink that could be coloring the ooze coming out? I have just gotten my first tattoo, so I am not by any means an expert. However, I do have a good sense of medical protocols for cleansing something that is open and potentially infected.
I would first recommend, as others here have already suggested, that you visit your tattoo artist. Show him the piece and ask if this looks normal to him. He is, ironically, more likely to know what a "healthy" healing tattoo looks like than the doctor is. Be sure to tell him that you did everything down to the letter regarding his aftercare protocols, and also note that your first tattoo did not heal in this way. I think it's important to bring that to his attention...if your other tattoo looked cleaner and less irritated when healing, it could be an important observation that this one is not healing the same way.
No matter what the artist says, if you in any way have a feeling in the pit of your stomach that it might be more than he's suggesting, or that you need more guidance, go to the doctor. Antibiotics, topical medications, and other treatments may be available through your doctor that could significantly limit, or altogether stop, any signs of infection. When push comes to shove, nobody wants a faded tattoo, but you can always touch it up in the future. I wouldn't want to mess with an infection. They can be dangerous if left unattended for too long, and some can be resistant to some treatments.
Either way, I would suggest you thoroughly wash your hands with a mild antibacterial soap (Cetaphil with antibacterial in bar form is an excellent one), then gently do the same for your tattoo. This will cleanse the area of pollutants and foreign debris.
I understand that each tattoo artist will give different aftercare protocols, so I am not suggesting you should or shouldn't do things one way or another. But I do know that my artist has been tattooing for 20+ years and does not recommend antibacterial ointments such as Neosporin, Polysporin, etc. because of the petroleum/petrolatum base.
I hope this heals up quickly and beautifully for you!!!
Question: Doc prescribed bactroban cream for bacterial vaginosis? I am on my second round of having bv in a little over a month.. my doc has now prescribed bactroban cream, she said to put it up inside me and on the outside.. well I cant find anywhere on the internet where you are suppose to use this cream like that.. so I called my pharmacist and he said he HAS NEVER heard of that. Has anybody else used this cream for bacterial vaginosis?
Answer: Bactroban is for external use only and like your pharmacist I have never heard of a Dr ever saying to use it like that. I think it might be an idea to talk to another Dr in the practise, tell new Dr what the original one told you to do but state that you don't believe it to be right and hope for better treatment. If not pop into a sexual health clinic...they will definitely know how to treat you.
Bacterial Vaginosis is usually treated with Metronidazole, if this is what you had then ask for another course but to be combined with Metronidazole Vaginal Gel to attack it from 2 positions.
Question: Is Bactroban cream suitable for children? ? If so what are the ages? Thanks
I need to know
Does anyone have any other answers?
Answer: i have seen it prescribed for children. but it was obviously not prescribed for the child or you would know that. you should see a dr to be sure what you are treating. it can be very dangerous to use someone else's prescription drugs on any body, especially on children. bactroban is a tissue penetrating antibiotic cream or ointment. it is not interchangeable with over the counter antibiotic creams or ointments like neosporin.
