Bactroban Ointment
Question: BACTROBAN ointment contains 2% mupirocin. How many gram of polyethelene glycole ointment base must be mixed wi? BACTROBAN ointment contains 2% mupirocin. How many gram of polyethelene glycole ointment base must be mixed with the contents of 22g tube of Bactroban oinment to prepare an oinment having concentraion of 5mg/g??
Plz help...n thank u.....
Answer: 22 g * 0.02 = 0.44 g
Let x = number of grams of base
After the mixing, we'll still have 0.44 g of 'stuff',
we'll have (22 + x) g of the mix,
and we want the concentration to be 5 / 1000 = 1/200.
0.44 / (x + 22) = 1/200
44/100 = (x + 22) / 200
44 = (x + 22) / 2
88 = x + 22
x = 66
Total of 88 g of mixture
0.44 / 88 = 44 / 8800
= 1/200 = 5/1000
Question: Does Bactroban nasal ointment 2% cream work for preventing recurrent boils?
Answer: It will, but its proper use is to eliminate bacteria in the nose, not elsewhere on the skin.
If you've been colonized by S. aureus that's causing recurrent skin infections, it's hiding out in your nose. If you kill it all there, then it won't get spread from your nose to elsewhere on your body to cause a boil.
After you've used the Bactroban in your nose and taken any oral antibiotics you might have been prescribed, the recurrent boil problem should clear up.
If you're worried, you might try using Hibiclens or another chlorhexidine product. You can wash your entire body in it (except your face and ears) and it will kill most of what's on you. It's a good secondary step in treating recurrent skin infections like that.
Question: Is Bactroban ointment ok to use on an open muscular abscess?
Answer: Absolutely! Bactroban is for open wounds, and it kills bacteria, stops the spread of infection, and doesn't burn!
Question: What is bactroban ointment? Okay we dont have neosporin here in the philippines and i found out that we have a substitute for it called bactroban...but is it similar to Neosporin? I was told that my pimple scars can be removed using neosporin but can bactroban remove it also???
Answer: This is Neosporin and what it can supposedly do ---
http://www.herbal-care.net/neosporin/
And this is Bactroban ---
http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/consumers/cmi/b/Bactroban.htm
For pimple scar removal, I don't think Bactroban would work.
BTW, is this an on-going problem? Are pimples/acne still popping up, or are these now long-time scars from your teen-aged years? Anyway, read on. You might find something very useful here. Good luick.

For serious skin problems, please consult a dermatologist.
Question: Can you use bactroban ointment on herpies?
Answer: Bactroban is a topical antibiotic. Herpes is a viral infection which does not respond to antibiotics (only bacterial infections respond to antibiotics). There are antiviral medications that can be prescribed to lessen the symptoms and decrease the outbreaks of herpes. For oral herpes you can use a topical anesthetic (you can get this over the counter at your pharmacy) if it is painful.
Question: Does "Bactroban Ointment" help on exposed sunburns? Is it safe on them? I have a sun burn on my face from snowboarding. I shaved and took a lot of skin that wasn't ready to come off, off. Well now it burns and itchs and hurts bad and i have put Neosporin on it but it doesn't seem to help.
Answer: Bactoban would work if there was an infection. It would do nothing for the pain and itch. I would suggest using something with benzocaine to numb it. Solarcaine cream has benzocaine.
Question: Bactroban ointment.... is there a cheaper way? My doctor prescribed this for me and i cant afford it. What can i do?
Answer: Call your doc and ask him to presribe a cheaper ointment for you.
Question: burning skin from Bactroban ointment? I got my ears pierced two days ago, and the piercing parlour asked me to use bactroban oinment, so I did, and then my ear lobe swelled up, and I got this really burning/itching feelings. I cudnt keep it for 3 hours! I washed it, my ear is really swelled up, and the skin where I have applied looks like as if it has been burnt .. with so many little bumps looks like allergy. I stopped using that creame. But wut should I do now? How do I make my skin normal, and not bumpy??
Answer: Apply aloederm on the affected part,it gives really a cool feeling and cures scars also.
Question: I've been using Bactroban Ointment wrongly? I didn't know it was so strong, i thought it was kind of like polysporin, so i was using it on acne or cuts, and even put some on the side of my nose. Today i felt very unwell and had a headache and ear troubles with stomach pains, I read that those are symptoms of this? right now my head feels pretty fine and ears seemed to clear up. can using this ointment in the wrong way seriously harm you? or just make you feel sick for a while.. i never knew how strong it was. my mom gave it to me to use on a cut i had and i just kept using it ever since then.
Answer: It's definitely stronger than polysporin, that's why it's prescription. If you used it the wrong way for a long time, it could hurt you. I think you're fine since you stopped.
It's hard with ointments and those kinds of things, they don't seem like they could really do much (compared to prescription pills), but they are active drugs.
It was smart of you to put 2 and 2 together to see that the symptoms you were experiencing were related to the Bactroban.
Question: is Bactroban Ointment a steroid?
Answer: No, it's not. It's a derivitive of a naturally occuring antiseptic/ antiobiotic.
It's used for infected scraps, scratches, incision lines, etc, that aren't responding to more traditional ointments like Neosporin. Hope that helped! :)
Question: I need to know about bactroban ointment? Can you use bactroban ointment on athletes foot?
Answer: No, it is an antibiotic. You need an antifungal like you get over the counter at the drug store.
Question: Why is the bite on my leg oozing a yellow substance? I just got back from a trip to arkansas where i went hiking and came home and noticed a bite on my leg. It became swolen with a black dot in the center of it. The doctor told me it was a spider bite and gave me some Bactroban ointment to put on it. It keeps looking worse and is now oozing a yellow substance that dries crusty. Anyone know anything?
Answer: I would go to the ER. It might be okay, but sometimes pus is a sign of a staph infection and you may need to have it drained and cleaned by a Dr. and you may also need to be put on antibiotics.
Question: Can one use Bactroban on cats? My female cat has a small wound on her head, just in front of her ear, which I think she got while playing with her brother. I think she is scratching it, because the wound is getting bigger (looks like a rash). It is not infected and there is no apparent discomfort on her part (she lets me touch the area), but she keeps on scratching at it. I clean the area with a saline solution, but I am hesitant to use anything else. However, it is taking longer to heal than it should because of the scratching. Is Bactroban ointment safe to use on cats?
She is two years old.
I called the vet and she suggested it may be a food allergy. In any case, i will take her to the vet this afternoon.
It is unlikely to be a flea allergy as they are both indoor cats and I frontline them every 6 weeks.
Answer: Ok- well the short answer to your question is that Bactroban is safe to use on cats.
I prescribe this some times for treating chin acne, and suggest that people wash the area twice daily with an antibacterial soap (from a pharmacy first aid section), rinse well, pat dry and then apply a thin layer of Bactroban.
With a kitten who is scratching herself to the point of self-injury, I do wonder if there is an underlying reason like Scabies or other parasites.
It would be a good idea to have her examined by her vet as it is very unusual for a kitten of this age to have allergies, so I am suspicous that there is some kind of parasite that is causing her to be so itchy.
It would be prudent to treat her with Frontline (NOT applied to the raw areas) as it is a safe and effective treatment for fleas. I know you said you did not see any, but maybe there are one or two driving her crazy.
If that does not resolve the problem, then when she is in for her vacccines, do ask your vet to look in to what is making her so itchy!
Good Luck!

Question: I have a sore on my neck that's gotten infected, what should I do? I fell asleep with gum in my mouth, ended up on my neck, and I picked it off, not realizing that I was creating a sore, a wound. Anyhow, it is infected now. What should I do? I'm not even completely sure I got all the gum out of it, though I'm pretty sure I did. I've been washing it with soap and water once a day, and putting this stuff called Bactroban ointment on it, which is a really good bacitracin ointment.
Answer: Keep it clean and keep doing what you are doing,,, if it gets worse (lots of pus), go to the doctor

Question: Can you put Bactroban(mupirocin) on a diaper rash? Mupirocin is an antibacterial topical ointment.
Answer: I always used Arnica cream. My youngest daughter used to get huge sores on her butt when she was ill--as if the bacteria in her stool was eating her skin.
The Arnica ALWAYS cleared up the sores within just a couple of days. Surprising and amazing.
Question: I am mrsa positive and don't know what to do? I have been mrsa positive since late last november. And I am now at my wits end. I have been given a sulfa antibiotic which i am allergic to I have spent 10 days hospitalized in isolation on vancomyacin I have been using bactroban ointment. After showering I used chloreseptic wash on my entire body. I have had 4 suregeries in total because my absesses have been so large. I have lost time at work due to pain and having home care nurses in. The doctors in my area seem to be uneducated cause no one wants to do anything to help me here. And I am still testing positive after all this. I also found out that it was my wonderful hometown hospital that caused me to have this staph "super bug" infect my body when I had a simple day surgery done a year ago.
Can anyone help me? I am only 28 healthy in good shape a loving mother and wife I can't live like this anymore
Answer: You CAN live like this until it gets treated! I did for three years. (My son died and I had bilateral breast cancer during that time, and in the end, it was the boils and infections that made me want to give up!)
I do not have the names of the drugs that stopped it, but I can find out, so email me. Do you use the bactroban nasally? (That's where staph lives.)
Oh, it was two antibiotics, neither of which was vanco. You must have had cultures done, right?
Anyway it can be treated, and you have to hang on, do your research, and then start proving to your docs that you know what you need, or find different docs. I had a family doc and several oncologists, several admissions for treatment of big, deep abscesses, and it wasn't until I got to the infectious disease guy that I was treated properly!
Haven't had so much as a large pimple since December.
Hang in there.
Question: How can you help heal and prevention in a facial claw wound on a cat? My cat came home with a wound gash above his right eye (like a bite or claw wound). It has white pus in it and is oozing very badly, not to mention there is a bad smell around it. I have been treating it with bactroban, and I was wondering if using ointments like neosporin or peroxide would help it? And if you have any suggestions, that would be very helpful...
Answer: It does sound like your kitty has an abscess.
First of all I highly recommend having your kitty examined by a veterinarian.
Depending on how severe the wound is, surgical placement of a drain may be necessary to let as much of the pus and discharge come out. Along with some antibiotics and possibly some pain medication. Sounds to me like the wound could be pretty painful.
The foul odor you are describing is most likely the infection and rotting skin. The rotting skin will need to be removed in order for the wound to heal well.
Here is a good website can help you treat this abscess. http://www.essortment.com/all/catsabsces…

Question: NURSES, DOCTORS, OR ANY MEDICAL HEALTH STAFF - HELP PLEASE? So I'm 14 years old and the other day when I was hanging out with my friends, we were sitting on the grass, and I got bitten by a spider 3 times. Once on my stomach, once on my lower back, and once on my left index finger. I felt it, but the mosquitoes were horrible that day, so I just figured it was a simple mosquito bite and didn't tell my mom until a week afterwards when it got really itchy, red, and wouldn't go away. She took me to the doctor and the doctor thought they were just non-poisonous spider bites as well, so she prescribed me some ointment to apply 3 times a day. I used that ointment for about another week and the two spider bites on my stomach and lower back healed, but the one on my left index finger was turning purple, swelling up, itching, and peeling. So my mom took me back to the doctor a couple of days ago and this time I was diagnosed by someone different. She said that my other doctor was wrong and that what I had was Staph Infection (Impetigo and Cellulitis to be more specific of what type...) so she prescribed me some Bactroban ointment for external use and 300 MG of Clindamycin HCL (I have no idea what that stands for, but It's on the prescription label) pills for oral use and said that I had to take 2 pills, 3 times a day. I've been taking the medications and applying the ointment, but it's not helping at all because the Staph Infection has spread all over my arms, legs, right hand, and right ear. I'm still extremely itchy, also. My finger hasn't healed much at all and whenever I don't have the ointment on it turns purple. I'm terrified about what's gonna happen to me because I've researched Staph Infection all over the internet and seen gruesome pictures of other patients and I'm scared that the infection will spread to the inside of my ear and leave me deaf or something. Is that possible? So my mom's insanely worried about my condition too and called the doctor's office this morning again, but they said to wait another day for the medicine to take effect and then see what happens. But as I've said before, this is the first time I've ever gotten Staph Infection and I'm terrified.
Here are my questions:
- Is Staph Infection fatal?
- How long does it take for Staph Infection to heal? (I haven't gone to school in like 3 days, so I want to know how much longer I'll have to stay at home)
- What's gonna happen to me if the medication doesn't work?
- What will happen if the infection spreads to the inside of my ear?
- Is there any chance that I may end up going to the hospital because of my finger (It's the most infected part of my body) and that they'll have to cut it off? (My friends told me that that could happen... I'm not sure if they were just trying to scare me or what but it worked...)
- Is there anything else you could tell me about Staph Infection that might be helpful to me?
Thank you SO much to anyone who answers this question!
You don't know how much I'd appreciate it especially if you worked in the medical field and have treated this condition before!
x
Answer: I don't want to scare you about the infection in your finger, but if it is cellulitis you will need to be on IV antibiotics. Your mother should take you to the hospital to have it treated and no, they are not going to cut your finger off. They may put you on IV antibiotics though. However, staph/cellulitis infections don't itch, they hurt and they cause a lot of swelling. It could be that you just have a simple impetigo infection if they only symptoms are itching and a rash.
