Question: I have some Buprenex but i do not want to inject it.. can it be administered orally by ingesting it or anally? Anyone with any experience with Buprenex incouraged to respond. Thanks!
Answer: anally then orally
Question: can a cat legaly be euthanized by buprenex? my cat is having kidney failure and at the vets he was doing okay so we brought him home. he started getting really bad by bleeding out of his mouth and now hes barely reacting to anything and breathing terribly. the doctor gave us Buprenex to help him through the night, and i dont think he can make it through. we don't want him to suffer so we wanted to know if its possible to euthanize him with buprenex legally.
Answer: might give him more pain
Question: What if my daughter got into the buprenex for my cat? Would she have to go to the hospital?
Answer: Call Poison Control in your area. Here is a link to the website for national poison control. They have a United States search feature.

Question: What will happento a human if they take 0.2cc of the drug for cats called Buprenex?
Answer: It's a semi-synthetic opioid also used in humans. If you're on this site much, you'll see quite a few questions related to Suboxone and Buprenex.
Question: Buprenex or Metacam for cat pain reliever? Next week my cat is going in to get a stone removed from his bladder. I asked the vet what pain reliever they use and she said Metacam. I've read horrible stories about using this pain reliever and told her so. I understand each drug has a side effect and it's a chance to take, even on our ourselves when we are taking meds. So when I drop my cat off next week should I ask to use Buprenex instead??
Answer: For an objective opinion I would ask a holistic vet.A lot of times the drug manufacturers will entice medical professionals to use their products via cash incentives.
Or I would get a second opinion from an animal rescue group because of the volume of cats and kittens we deal with.
FYI:I would use the Buprenex.Your "gut" feeling is telling you to use this pain reliever.
Question: My cat was prescribed Buprenex for pain, Can I use this to ween myself off opiates? (cats been fine for weeks)? The cat has been fine for weeks and I was reading online that buprenex is used for weening opiate addicts away. Are these syringes safe for sub-lingual human consumption? They're 0.3 each.
Answer: Your cats physiology is NOT the same as yours. The answer is NO. Go get professional help before you hurt yourself.
Question: can humans take buprenex (0.15ml liquid) proscribed for a cat, if so what would it do? 0.15ml liquid
will that little bit get you messed up? like high? would you be able to feel it?
Answer: its for pain, but has got side effects if your pregnant, can cause dizzyness, sicknessand headaches, plus more side effects if older or young
Question: Cat got 2 cc of Buprenex instead of 1 cc will she live or is it a run to ER vet?
Answer: Buprenex has a "high index of safety", meaning it takes significantly larger amounts than the normal dose to cause serious problems. See details here: http://www.petplace.com/drug-library/buprenorphine-buprenex/page1.aspx
Also, based on the normal dosing of .03 mg per ml (cc) and .01 mg per pound of body weight, 2cc would actual be a relatively normal dosing amount even for a small cat.
However, I am not a veterinarian. PLEASE call the ER vet to confirm. But I don't think you need to be too worried.
Question: My cat was prescribed Buprenex to be given orally. How long does it take to absorb? Thanks!? Breed: Himalayan/Domestic mix
Age: A little over a year
Gender: Female
If she swallows a small amount will it hurt her? I'm putting it in her cheek pouch but if I put too much in at once on accident she'll swallow (I think she gets .15 ml and we usually give it in two squirts to insure she doesn't swallow it).
Answer: Make sure you give it in the cheek pouch, it should not be swallowed! It will absorb almost instantly, but will start working in about 15 to 30 minutes and last 8 to 10 hours. Dont worry, its a pretty safe drug even if it isnt given exactly the right way. Just stick the syringe in the cats mouth right into the cheek and plunge the syringe fairly quickly.
Its fine, they will "seem" to swallow some but i think every cat i've ever given it to does that. I think you can also lift up their lip and plunge it on the gum line if your worried about them swallowing it. I did this for my cat when she had all of her teeth pulled and i didnt want to completely open her mouth.
Question: Suspect Buprenex overdose? Friend gave kitty 10 times the recommended dose of Buprenex and will not call vet. Will kitty be ok?????? Perhaps I should snatch kitty and take to emergency clinic?
Forgot to say kitty got 10 milleleters instead of 1 millileter. Will he just sleep for a day or will it kill poor baby?
Answer: wow 10m times? thats reli serious if i were you i would stick with the plan if they are stubborn

Question: What are the side effects of Buprenex in cats? I gave my cat Buprenex a few days ago (I think a little more went down her throat rather than in the cheek pocket) and now she is acting weird. She wants to eat, but won't (the meds were given to her for her teeth) and she's lost a lot of weight. She's also acting strange and cries when I pick her up. What's wrong?
Answer: You do need to update your vet on her condition. She needs to eat, try offering warmed meat baby food (not any with onion in it though). Even if she licks it off your finger you can get a half jar into her.
I've never had side effects from Buprenex, it's supposed to be absorbed by the mouth tissues, yes, but even if it goes down the throat it'll work.
Call your vet, update them on her actions, cries and the not eating, and ask what to do.
Question: OK...can someone tell me about Buprenex. Is 0.3 (liquid) enough for pain control. Thanks!!?
Answer: It should be sufficient unless you're in extremely severe pain. Buprenex is considered an opiate anagesic and I believe comes in injectable form only.
0.3 is the typical dose every six hours for an adult. It can be compared to 10 mgs of morphene.
Question: buprenex and puppy? how well does buprenex as pain medicine work for puppies? is it really good? is it like a person taking a percocet for a dog? i really want my puppy to feel ok since she seems to be in pain from her broken foot? has anyone used this for their dog or know anything about it?
Answer: Buprenex is an EXCELLENT pain medication. I use it frequently in both cats and dogs. It is perfect for puppies. NSAIDs are not good for their immature kidneys, but the buprenorphine works great and is easily administered by owners. Just remember, it has variable absorption and many suggest that it should be placed under the tongue or in the cheek pouch rather than swallowed.
Question: Detoxing 1& 1/2 month from Buprenex shot. Need stronger meds without Opiate. Ultram don't work!!? I have recently gotten off my Buprenex shots maintnece I've been for 2 & 1/2 years. I stopped cold turkey and it has been a month and half and I am still in so much discomfort and pain!! I have gotten off methadone, Heroin, but this has been the worst pain and discomfort I ever felt.!! My boyfriend is a non-addict. He cannot relate my physical pain and discomfort. . First I tried over the counter, Tylenol arthritis, Ibuprofin, Tylenol sleep etc. He don't want me even to take these. He think I will get "addicted". Now after endless argument that I need more stronger prescribed meds. I told it will will non-narcotic and I got Ultram & he sees Narc., he flips!. It does not work, and he still tells me I am abusing it!! I am not taking Opiate meds, there is a difference!!. I need answers for him on difference from Percocet or Dorvocet. I know all to well, but to him I am my "own pharmacy"!! The pain is so bad sometimes I want to sleep & never wake up!! Thanks!!
Answer: Ultram is different from Percocet (oxycodone) in it's MUCH lower intrinsic affinnity (its 'sticking power) and its activity at the particular receptors in the brain. The majority of opiate drugs that we associate with highly addictive and pleasurable drugs are those that are pure Mu opiate receptor agonists....i.e. they have a HIGH affinnity and activity at the Mu opiate receptor, drugs like Heroin, Methadone, Morphine, Oxycodone are examples of these. Ultram (Tramadol Hydrochloride) on the other hand is virtualy ZERO opiate activity itself, the VERY weak activity felt when taking Tramadol is actualy from the M1 metabolite of Tramadol after first pass metabolism through the liver.
According to Goodman & Gilman's: The Pharmacological
Basis of Therapeutics (tenth edition), the affinity of tramadol for the mu opioid receptor is 1/6000 that of morphine. Now do NOT confuse this by thinking that Tramadol is 6000 times weaker than Morphine as this is *FALSE*. In fact, on average, Morphine is 10 times as potent as Tramadol. BUT there are other factors at play here, such as Tramadol being only a PARTIALY SELECTIVE Mu agonist (Morphine being close to a pure Mu agonist) and Tramadol is also active at the Kappa receptor which is Often *NOT* assoctiated with 'pleasure'. In a very simplistic summary Tramadol has MUCH less sticking power than morphine and much less potency than morphine. Whilst it is an opiate, it is a VERY VERY weak one that is rarely abused and used for pleasure. If you need to use something to taper off the Bupe (which I do not doubt) then this would likely be one of the much MUCH safer and less 'abusable' options. Just remember to taper your Ultram dose down just like methadone and Bupe.
Question: giving pain meds, buprenex? Just got my cat back from the vet, he was diagnosed with inflamed gums and small oral ulcers. She said it was very common and should pass on its own. She prescribed a pain med buprenex. Has anyone had experience with this medication? How did it affect your cat? Anyone have experience with gum oral ulcers? The vet said his teeth were ok for a 12 year old and did not even need cleaning unless his condition worsens.
Answer: Well having inflamed gums is common as a pet ages. Since your pet is 12, most cats are more likely to have bad teeth all due to their age. The medicine you have is perfectly fine. Most vets know what their talking about when they say there's no need for your pet to get cleaning because they deal with teeth on a daily issue. If you cat was much younger, lets say 2, then for sure it would be wise to get the teeth clean but you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just give your medicine as prescribe and let your cat enjoy his/her life. =)
Question: cat on Buprenex???//////? well my cats lower back has been hurting him for the last 5 days.It only hurts alittle when you touch it.We went to the vet she said they dont know what it is,the biopsy only showed some abnormal tissues. What could it be?My cat is an indoor cat,and i dont remember him getting hurt=(She also have me Buprenex to give to my 7 year old cat twice a day for 5 days,is this a good med?
Answer: Elegance,
I am sorry to read that your cat is not feeling well, and I am sure that you must be quite worried about the results of the biopsy. I would think that your vet would know what the report means, and should be talking to you about some of the possibilities. Abnormal cells may be referring to some forms of cancer.
http://www.cat-health-guide.org/feline-t…
Effective pain control in cats is in its infancy and much research is going into finding drugs that work but don't cause over-sedation. Buprenex is an opiate derivative and can be sedating. But with the short length of time that the drug has been prescribed, should not cause any problems. If your cat seems overly sedated, talk with your vet.
Buprenex is considered to be one of the safer pain management medications available for felines.
http://www.friendshiphospitalforanimals.…
But do talk with your vet about this biopsy and ask her what she is considering to be a diagnosis.
I do hope your cat is feeling better, and that a treatment plan can be prescribed. A 7 year old cat is still a young cat. Cancer treatment in felines can be very effective, if that is what she suspects.

Question: Does Medicaid (NY State) provide coverage for office based opioid therapy using Buprenex or Suboxone/Subutex? Due to the epidemic like use of opiate anelgesics (pain killers) such as hydrocodone or oxycodone this treatment is badly needed. What is Medicaid's position for those who have no insurance. Does this vary from state to state, county to county? Can this be handled with some dignity, other than going to a methadone clinic, or hospital setting where the cost is astronomical?
This is not only a mental health issue, but is ruining the lives of many people in the US and worldwide. Pain medication has become the latest and most pervasive way of becoming addicted to opiates.

Question: Buprenex for my cat? Vomiting.....? My cat was dx with a UTI and crystals yesterday...he is on buprenex (buprenorphine) 0.4 ml every 12 hours. I gave him a dose at 9:30 this morning and sometime this afternoon he vomited all of his food. I know this can be a sign of a blockage but he is still eating and urinating. He is actually urinating more today than he was yesterday. Could his vomiting be a side effect to the buprenex? I couldnt find anything online saying it could be...also should I just give him a half dose tonight when he is due? He is playing and eating.
He is not on an antibiotic yet...hes getting a shot tomorrow. The only other med he got was an anti-inflammatory at the vet yesterday.
Answer: Hi there... generally, vomiting is not a side of effect of buprenorphine. It's quite common for male cats who have urinary blockages to feel nauseated. The body is unable to eliminate all the toxins so it backs up in the kidneys.
