Cervarix
Question: What's the difference between Gardisil and Cervarix? Which one to use on whom and when? As title thanks.
Answer: Gardasil is a quadravalent vaccine that protects against HPV 6,11,16 and 18. That's 2 cancer-linked strains and 2 wart strains. Gardasil is made by Merck. It is licensed for use worldwide.
Cervarix is a bivalent vaccine that protects again HPV 16 and 18. These are cancer-causing strains of HPV. Cervarix is made by GlaxoSmithKline. It is licensed for use in the UK, but not in the US yet.
Question: What is the chance of the HPV jab, cervarix, being successful? What is the chance of this jab actually preventing hpv and cervical cancer (percentage if possible)
And then what is the chance if you have already had sex and get it (also a percentage if possible)
Thanks
Answer: It provides 100% protection against the 2 HPV strains that currently cause 70% of cervical cancer.
Question: Can woman in 3x take the vacinne Cervarix? Is there any screening? Like need to do pam scan before or what? Can any woman just go n take it?

Question: I'd been vaccinated with first stage Cervarix ,on the way to the second stage I found out I am pregnant? Should I continue with the second stage of vaccincation or should I wait until the pregnany, then I continue with the second stage?
Answer: I wouldn't take it in the first place....
But I certainly would pass on anything medically unneccessary during pregnancy.

Question: TO WOMEN: Have u been vaccinated with cervarix and observed that u'v been very sickly and prone to allergies? My cold and cough has been one and a half months long! it won't get rid of me! plus, add the allergies and itches and stuffs! Oh boy, I really think it's because of the cervarix vaccine for HIV. Ive been like this after i got my 3rd dose... Did you feel any of this after having the last dose?
Answer: The cervarix vaccine for HPV is widely given out and the known side effects do not include those that you have described. I have had all three vaccines and have not observed increases in colds or increased allergies. None of my preexisting allergies have been heightened and I have not developed any new allergies. I could be that now most parts of the world are moving from winter to spring that you seasonal allergies have been aggravated.
Hopefully you feel better soon.
Question: What is the price o cervarix and gardasil vaccines?

Question: My g-frnd got the CERVARIX vaccine and bled like u would if you pregnant? is this normal? is she ment to miss her period and bleed a little bit the same as a pregnancy symptom?
Answer: The bleeding will have nothing to do with the vaccine, but it could be caused by being on the pill.
Question: The FDA seems like it is going to approve Cervarix soon . . . should I get it? I've already had Gardasil. The Cervarix vaccine protects against the same 2 cancer-causing strains, but they say it provides some protection against additional HPV strains.
Also, I've already had cervical cancer which SUCKED!!!

Question: breastfeeding after cervarix hpv vaccination? i had my 1st hpv shot yesterday and about an hour after that , i nursed my 4 month old baby. he drank at the most 2 oz. before i realized that i need to ask my doctor about the risks. I am so worried for my son. Anybody here who has the same sentiment? I need advice pls.
Answer: From the Cervarix package insert:
"In non-clinical studies in rats, serological data suggest a transfer of anti-HPV-16 and anti-HPV-18 antibodies via milk during lactation in rats. Excretion of vaccine-induced antibodies in human milk has not been studied for CERVARIX. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when CERVARIX is administered to a nursing woman."
http://www.fda.gov/downloads/BiologicsBl… (page 11)
I would have advised that you not get the shot while breastfeeding, just to be safe. But since you did get it, I would advise you to NOT stop breastfeeding. Stopping breastfeeding would cause more harm to your 4 month old baby. Not breastfeeding is known risk to a baby's health. A mother's Cervarix vaccine is a theoretical risk. But I think you should definitely wait until your baby has weaned before you get the 2nd and 3rd doses, if you decide to complete the series.
Question: should i continue my 2nd jab of cervarix? hi, due to personal reason, i hv abit late ( 10 days) to do my second jab of cervarix, will this affect the effectiveness of this injection?? i so worry it is no longer function and just waste money to do 2nd jab...pls help...thx
Answer: It's fine to have it a bit late, it won't affect the efficacy at all.
Ignore the anti vaccine post - most people have no knowledge about vaccines other than what they find on YouTube.
I have 15 years experience as an NHS & industry vaccine specialist.
Question: Has FDA already approved Cervarix vaccine? I want to get vaccinated against HPV, but I am over 26, and it is too late to get Gardisil for me. However, Cervarix is for women even up to 55. The latest news I found that FDA approval for Cervarix is suppossed to be received by the end of 2006. Has it been approved indeed? Do gynecologists in the US offer Cervarix shots already?
Answer: It is *not* FDA approved, or available to the general population outside of the clinical study group. GlaxoSmithKline does not intend to file for approval w/the FDA until April 2007, and does not expect said approval to come before the end of 2007. Clinical trials have been very encouraging, so it may get fast-tracked. Nonetheless, you cannot receive it now.
Question: HPV jab Cervarix - how long do u have a ';dead' arm for? I had the Cervarix HPV jab last friday which was 5 days ago, and my arm still hurts when i lift it up how long did your hurt for? plz help
Answer: It depends how much you move it - believe it or not it helps when you move it, even though it aches when you do move it!!
The first one I had ached for about 5 days, and my second one that I also had last Friday didn't even hurt Saturday night, but my friend has a bruise and it still aches for her.
So basically it depends whether you sleep on it/move it/bump it etc etc.
Hope it stops hurting soon :-)
Question: have you had a CERVARIX vaccine ? any side effects? I am 35 and I have just had a CERVARIX vaccine. I am finding the area where the shot was administered is red, hot in temperature and quite painful to touch. Has anyone esle (in Australia or elsewhere) had this vaccine and found a similar post-effect? Otherwise I am not experiencing any other symptoms the doctor warned me about (nausea, headache etc). Any comments will be appreciated. Please, only answer to this if you are either a medic or have personally had this vaccine. Thank you.
Answer: Nope, never had one
Question: I've already had Cervarix shots, do I still need Gardasil? our neighborhood gynecologist said that Cervarix is not enough...???
Answer: If you have had three Cervarix shots then you must not have Gardasil. That would be extremely dangerous. I do not know where your gynaecologist got her information from but she is wrong. Please do not be vaccinated with Gardasil if you have had the full programme of Cervarix.
Question: is cervarix helps in preventing genital warts?
Answer: no!!
Question: HPV VACCINE (cervarix) AND BLOOD TEST HELP! :|? I'm getting my very first blood test tomorrow. I'm so nervous!
I need to know if it hurts more/less than the Cervarix HPV shot. Please help! Thanks so much. & Be honest! a
Answer: Getting blood drawn is less painful that the HPV shot in my opinion. The HPV shot burned!! lol.. I didn't expect that. Just be sure not to look when they are drawing the blood- I almost passed out when I was younger because I looked!
Question: How long do the hpv vaccine side effects last? Yesterday at school i had the first hpv vaccine cervarix one. I had slight dizziness and felt a little sick but i was very nervous before i had it as i don't like needles this soon passed. Then i had aching pain in my arm which i still have it is swollen and abit hard round the injection site still. I don't know how long this is meant to last and i am starting to feel sick again is this normal?
Answer: First of all, completely ignore William, who sounds like a quack. Everything in his answer is a complete lie.
These mild and minor side effects tend only to last for a very short while. The sore arm should be gone by the end of the week.
