Answer: Did you say Diabeta? This is a first generation drug. Very, very old. There are many new generation drugs that work much better. If you are insulin resistant, drugs such as glucophage (metformin and fortamet are the same) work very well. They suppress your appetite helping you to lose weight which will control your blood sugar. It also help open the recepto sites on your cells allowing the insulin to get in and metabolize the sugar better so that it's not running around in the blood stream. There's also a drug called Avandamet which combines glucophage with a drug called Avandia. Avandia is also a good drug but is used with Glucophage no longer controls well. Avandia makes you gain weight. Diet and exercise, annoying but true, are also beneficial in controlling blood sugars. Wow....I haven't heard of Diabeta in years....seriously..I'd say in about 15years. I don't even have any patients on it anymore.

Question: Is anyone pregnant and on Micronase? Other names can be: Diabeta, Glycron, Glynase, Glyburide. I am 35 weeks pregnant and my doctor wants me to start this pill due to gestational diabetes. But it says it can cause low blood sugar in the baby. So I was wondering if anyone else was on this medicine? Please help me. I already talked to my doctor and he said that I needed to take it. I have a nutritionist. I have been on a regular diet. But it seems that everything I eat makes my sugar sky-rocket. I didn't have these problems with my first son, and this just started about two weeks ago. I am 35 weeks pregnant. I guess I'm scared that it will hurt the baby. I don't like taking medication. I'm a natural person.

Question: How can I get Diabetes pills? My mom takes Diabeta (glyburide) for her diabetes. Because of her bad reaction to insulin she continues taking the pill. Doctors only want to put her on insulin. Normally we get her the pills from across the border in Mexico. However, as it has become increasingly dangerous there, we are lost at how to attain her medicine. She only has 3 pills left. Any suggestions? The doctors won't listen! Help! The doctors know she's on the pills. They tried taking her off the pills and put her strictly on insulin. It's the insulin she had a reaction to. This has already happened twice. Doctors don't know nearly as much as they should. Tell me I'm stupid when she tells them something and they don't believe her and try to force something on her only to have it create a reaction as she had orignally told them. They had to give her a shot of Benadryl for the allergic reaction. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

Answer: I hope your mother isn't taking the pills and insulin together, when her doctor did not prescribe it that way. Did it ever occur to you that she had a "bad reaction" to something that she bought down in Mexico? Does her doctor know she is taking those pills?
