Diovan HCT
Question: Does taking Diovan HCT cause sugar to show up in urine test? Does taking diovan hct cause diabetes?
Answer: After researching this using two different drug resources, I am not seeing diabetes or an increase in blood sugar listed as an adverse effect for this medication. So, it's unlikely this medication would cause diabetes. It can cause problems with the kidneys, which if progressed far enough could lead to glucose appearing in the urine, but this too is pretty rare. However, I would recommend seeing your doctor to have your kidney function assessed if this is something you are experiencing. Hope this helps.
Question: I am on High Blood pressuremedicine(diovan hct).is it safe for me to drink chamomile tea everyday? I am on high blood pressure medicine(diovan hct).is it safe for me to drink chamomile tea everyday?
Answer: Chamomile is an extremely mild and gentle relaxant herb. The only negative reaction I am aware of with it is that some people who are allergic to ragweed, goldenrod (Solidago), asters, chrysanthemums are also allergic to chamomile.
This is taken from www.hbcprotocols.com/sleep/chamomile.html:
Prescription Drugs
Chamomile contains chemicals that may increase the time blood needs to clot. When it is taken with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs, the effect of the antiplatelet or anticoagulant may be increased, resulting in uncontrolled bleeding.
Antiplatelet drugs include Plavix and Ticlid
Anticoagulants include heparin and warfarin
When chamomile is used with prescription drugs that promote sleepiness, the effects of the prescription drug may be exaggerated, resulting in sedation or mental impairment. Prescription drugs that can cause sleepiness include:
Anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), and valproic acid (Depakote)
Barbiturates such as phenobarbital
Benzodiazepines such as alprazolam (Xanax) and diazepam (Valium)
Drugs for insomnia such as zaleplon (Sonata) and zolpidem (Ambien)
Tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil), amoxapine, doxepin and nortriptyline
Chamomile is broken down by certain enzymes in the liver, therefore it may interfere with the use of prescription drugs that are processed by the same enzymes. These drugs may include:
Allergy drugs such as fexofenadine (Seldane)
Antifungal drugs such as itraconazole (Sporanox) and ketoconazole (Nizoral)
Cancer drugs such as etoposide (VePesid), paclitaxel (Onxol, Taxol), vinblastine, or vincristine
Drugs for high cholesterol such as lovastatin (Mevacor)
Oral contraceptives
Non-prescription Drugs
Chamomile can affect the ability of blood to clot after. Aspirin can also delay clotting, so chamomile should not be taken at the same time as aspirin.
The sleep-producing effects of over-the-counter products containing diphenhydramine can be enhanced by taking chamomile concurrently. Diphenhydramine is contained in many over-the-counter sleep aids as well as in some cough and cold products, therefore caution should be used when taking these medications with chamomile because excessive drowsiness may result.
Question: Is it ok to chew the high blood pressure medicine Diovan or Diovan HCT ?
Have difficulty swallowing whole pill.
Answer: It'll likely taste like crap.
Try the old hospital trick. Crush the pills and mix into some applesauce.
Easy to swallow, better taste.
Question: diovan hct seems to lower my blood pressure too low when I take the entire pill.? So I take half of the pill and my blood pressure still stays around 106/63 & I feel weird.
Answer: YOU MAY NOT NEED TO EVEN TAKE THAT. SEEMS AS IF YOUR HYPERTENSION IS GOOD. 106/63 IS NORMAL . YOU DON'T WANT IT TO GO ANY LOWER, YOU WIL GET HEADACHES AND BE VERY LIGHT HEADED AND PROBABLY WONT HAVE ANY ENERGY. YOU NEED TO SPEAK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN OR NURSE AND FIND OUT IF YOU MEDS ARE NEEDED.

Question: whats the difference bet.diovan hct and diovan hctz? i've been taking diovan hct 160-25 for high blood pressure for about a year now. recently when i refilled my prescription the pharmacist gave me diovan HCTZ 160-25.since i've been taking it once a day i seem to be dizzy a lot. can someone tell me (in laymans terms), what is the difference between the diovan hct and the diovan hctz? thanks for all answers.
Answer: The Diovan HCTZ has a diuretic in it. People who retain fluids, like myself, often will have high blood pressure. There is no difference between the two. It's Just made by another company. Have you noticed a difference in size or color of the pill? Both contain a diuretic called hydrochlorothyazide. This is the ingredient that gets rid of excess fluid. Sometimes when pharmacies run out of the generic, they will give you a brand name or one made by another company but there really is no difference. Go to this web site. www.diovan.com. It tells all you need to know about this med. Good luck
Question: i was just put on Metoprol Tar 25mg to lower my pulse rate. i also take diovan hct for high blood pressure. is? it safe to take these two together?
Answer: You should be able to call any pharmacy and ask them. They should be able to answer your questions. I wouldn't trust anyone on here to answer this, call a pharmacy and get your answer real quick.
Hope this helps!!
Question: what is the peak time on diovan hct? diovan hct is taken at 8:00 am when will it's peak effect occur
Answer: Diovan isn't used for infectious diseases, so why is your question posted in this category?
Diovan HCT is a combination drug and the active ingredients are valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT). The peak plasma concentration time for valsartan is 2-4 hours, for HCT 1 to 2.5 hours. If the med is taken at 0800, peak time would be at approximately 1030 to 1100.
Question: Can I take Diovan HCT 80mg in morning and Altenolol 25mg at night? I have high blood pressure

Question: I take Diovan HCT, can I subsitute this medication with Hydralazine HCL?
Answer: No.
Your high blood pressure appears to be uncontrolled with just one medicine, and that's why you are probably on 2 meds, diovan + hydrochlorthiazide (HCT). Hydralazine HCl is just one medication.
Unlike diovan HCT, hydralazine works for less time, so instead of taking just one pill a day, you'd have to take the hydralazine multiple times throughout the day, so you can't substitute it "one for one."
Furthermore, different bp meds are useful for people with different comorbidities. Hydralazine would rarely, if ever, be use as a first-line medication for hypertension.
If the problem that makes you want to substitute is the cost, the combination pill diovan HCT can be broken down into HCTZ, which is on the $4 list at chain pharmacies, and the diovan could be substituted for something else that is similar and also on the $4 list.
Question: Is it safe to eat grapefruit while taking Diovan HCT for high blood pressure?

Question: Does Diovan HCT cause your blood sugar to go up? I'm diabetic and my blood sugar was averaging 125, now it is 155.
Answer: Diabetes medicine (eg, glipizide, metformin) or insulin because their effectiveness may be decreased by Diovan HCT
if you have asthma; diabetes; gout; heart problems (eg, congestive heart failure); liver, gall bladder, or kidney problems; parathyroid gland problems; high blood cholesterol or lipid levels; or systemic lupus erythematosus
Take care

Question: Diovan versus Diovan HCT? My wife got a prescription for Diovan HCT, and I read online that there's also just regular "Diovan". Which of them is better for her, or are either fine for blood pressure? She's only on prenatal vitamins right now, so she doesn't take anything for blood pressure yet.
Answer: Im not so sure your wife should be taking those. Diovan is in a class of drugs called "angiotensin receptor blockers" or ARBs. ARBs have been shown with positive evidence of fetal risk in pregnant women. By the looks of it, your wife is planning on/could be pregnant. Talk to your pharmacist/physician and possibly switch to another choice of drug that will help the blood pressure.
But then again, im only 21 years old, im not a nurse or PA, so what do i know?
Question: I cannot lose weight no matter what I do..I think it is the diovan (320)and HCT...possible? I quit smoking almost 2 yrs ago and initially attributed my weight gain ( 30lbs) to that..however, I think it is my medication that is preventing weight loss..I have asked my doctor if it is necessary to continue on the diovan and hct and he said yes..I started these meds also 2 years ago when my blood pressure was 176/110..now it is 130/80..I have stopped eating red meat..eliminated desserts..severely curtailed butter from diet..exercised..and my weight does not budge..it is so depressing.
I am a 47 yo male and now weigh about 240
Answer: Yes, weight gain is a side effect from diovan hct. Unfortunately, it is usually not a reason that the doctor will discontinue the drug since the gain usually stabilizes (as yours obviously did at 30 pounds).
If you contact me with your email address, I will gladly give you a diet based on Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem (unfortunately, yahoo answer's email system doesn't have enough "characters" to allow me to send the diet through them). You can do it yourself at home. You won't need to measure anything or count calories. It is all already proportioned. It involves all food groups and is based on 1250 calories. Very healthy. I have shared it with many askers on yahoo answers. Hopefully, it will be enough of a calorie change that it will help you shed those extra pounds.
Question: Can I take Diovan HCT (daily) 160 with Viagra 80 (ocassionally)? I am a 53 year old male
Answer: Yes. I'm 57 and take Diovan HCT and occasionally Viagra 50mg. No problems.
Question: what is the medication diovan hct used for?
Answer: High blood pressure
Question: Could someone tell me the price of diovan at Walmart? I need to know how much a 60 count of diovan hct 160/12.5 OR a 30 count diovan 320/25 is at Walmart. I lost my job in July, no longer have insurance, and am trying to find the least expensive pharmacy. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Answer: they will tell you if you call them on the phone and just ask... that being said.... if cost is that big of an issue for you, you can talk to your doctor and explain the situation to him/her. you can try cozaar over diovan... theres a generic for that although i dont think there is an equivilent for the 320mg dose. If you have never been on an "ACE" inhibitor, ask your doctor about that, it works on the same system diovan does and they are MUCH cheaper and have shown to be extremely effective
Question: Is there a generic medicine for Tricor 145mg and Diovan hct 160/12.5mg?
Answer: Neither of these drugs has a generic and it's going to be a few years. Tricor was reformulated about 2 years ago so it could be taken without regards to meals. I could see plain Diovan going generic in a year or two, but not Diovan HCT which is Diovan with a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide). Drug companies often add a drug, reformulate, change the strength, or whatever other trick they can think of to extend their patent on a medication.
Question: Diovan HCT for hypertension. Have you used it? Was it good for you? Any side effects? Thanks!?
Answer: Yes, I used it. It didn't do any harm, but it didn't do any good either.
However, it did have side effects which weren't particularly pleasant.
When I discontinued them -as an experiment, I found it impossible to tell (from the records I'd kept) any difference in my B/P's. So I repeated the tests three times, and each time got the same results.
By all means try the experiments on yourself; it won't do you the slightest harm. Buy (or borrow) a sleeve-monitor, record your own readings at the same times each day (say 3, -or 4)
and I think you'll find it quite impossible to distinguish when you're "on" Diovan, and "off".....interesting, isn't it?
NOTE: to JOANNIE Please! disregard your doctor, and come (slowly) off the beta-blocker. This is terribly important.
Don't stop taking them suddenly, or you'll get a "bounce" effect. Just take them less frequently and cut the dosage down over 2 or 3 weeks until you're clear of them.
The diagnosis of borderline hypertension is tosh. Sheer rubbish. You DON'T need medication, and of all the medications you could have, beta blockers are the absolute worst. They'll make you feel tired, lethargic, and awful.
Unlike Diovan (which is harmless and probably does you no good either), beta blockers will both lower your pulse rate and prevent it from rising properly when your body needs it to and this is why more people died (in the ASCOT TRIAL) when on beta-blockers than those who weren't. The Trial was halted because the facts were so stark..
You don't need drugs for "borderline hypertension" and you are taking grave risks with your health by taking beta blockers.
Your 'resting' systolic pressure should be roughly "100 + your age".... (give or take about 10 ...it varies all during the day, )that's the normal, average figure for the Western female. If your doctor construes this as marginally hypertensive, he simply is wrong.
Question: can the medication diovan hct 160mg cause men to lose sex drive?
Answer: Diovan is valsartan and is an antihypertensive. Any medication a man takes to lower his blood pressure has the potential to cause impotence. Diovan however is much less likely to cause this than the older beta blockers such as Tenormin which is atenolol.
If this just started along with the Diovan then he needs to be very honest with the doctor as dosages can be adjusted or new meds can be tried which don't cause this side effect.
Also, in some men the impotence goes away after a month or so on the high blood pressure med. as it takes some time for the body to get adjusted.
Diovan is available in three strenghts of 80 mg., 160 mg., and 320 mg. So he is taking a middle dose as all three are designed as a once a day dosing.
Maybe if he did other things such as reduce his sodium intake and try to exercise a little as well as some weight loss if needed he could with his physician's ok take a lower dose of Diovan such as the 80 mg tablet.
I personally know a man who takes 320 mg. of Diovan each day and has for years and has absolutely no problems whatsoever at all in the sexual area.
Each man is different and there are so many antihypertensives which each class working on a different system that there isn't any reason why any man should be impotent due to taking a high blood pressue pill.
There are calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors and others which all produce the same result - lowered blood pressure. If you're sure Diovan is the cause then he must talk to his doctor.
