Question: how do you find the area of a pill shape. Like an elongated circle but with rounded ends. ? Its like an ellipse but with half circle ends. Like a long pill. I was given height as 9 cm and length as 9 cm.

Answer: assume the straight middle part as cylinder and the 2 ends as hemispheres that are attached together.
Question: Is there a non-prescription alternative to Nexium / esomeprazole magnesium? I take Nexium 20mg and due to a change in how my doctor will do repeats it is going to cost me $50+ for this script. I have stopped taking this tablet until I have symptons and have found I need only to take one tablet once about every 6 days. I am curious as to if I really need this prescription (and it's associated cost) and can take an over the counter medication instead.
What I am after is recomendations on what to use? Is it as simple as using Quikeze or Mylanta or something stronger. Or should I just suffer the cost and continue the prescription of Nexium?
I am taking this for reflux.
Answer: There are a lot of OTC meds for this health problem, but none seem to work on me as well as Nexium. You might try some of the others and if they don't work, you can go back to Nexium. Pepcid, Prilosec, Zantac and probably others.
Question: serious gastric problem ... need urgent help .. am from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am 35 years old? Hi,
I am Dipu. I am from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am 35 years old. I married and have 2 children. My height is 5 feet 5 inches and weight 63 kg. I am doing job in a NGO. I have to eat and drink outside all the time because of my job. I take tea more then 2 cups a day (also green tea as well). My father died 2003. I am the elder son in my family. I have my mother, 2 brothers and 1 sister in my family.
I have gastric problems since 15 years. 1st few years I took antacid (a tablet combine of dried aluminum, hydroxide gel 250 mg, magnesium hydroxide 400mg) tablets frequently (3 or 5 times some times more then that every day that gave me temporally relieve). After taking long time antacid tablets (almost 10 years), my condition becomes critical.
Then I took advice a doctor he gave me some ranitidine, Esomeprazole group tablets. I took those couple of months (that time I did endoscopy nothing found serious). But then my condition becomes worst.
Recent for 5 or six months I feel long heartburn, severe chest and stomach pain which also reaches my back (pain doesn’t go away when I took medicine), extremely gas formation in stomach, malaise and flatulence, frequent release of bad smell gas (specially when my stomach is empty), suffering from Colic, indigestion and constipation (my stools very hard and have very bad smell), inflammation in chest, frequent cough, gastroesophageal reflux, keep losing weight. Some time when I drink water feeling sensation of wanting to vomit and desire to vomit a few minutes after eating.
Then I again went to doctor last month. I did ultra sonogram nothing found serious but a mild prostrate enlargement.
TEST RESULTS:
ultra sonogram of whole abdomen:
Liver: Mild fatty infiltration of the liver.
MCC : 899.78 cc
PVR : 30.15 cc, which is insignificant
PROSTATE: Mildly enlarged in size, measuring about 42.9 x 37.2 x 26.9 mm, volume being 22.45 cc, weight is 22.45 gm, it is homogeneous in echotexture with intact capsule
BIOCHEMISTRY
ALT(SGPT): 78 U/L
For prostrate enlargement doctor sagest me to take tamsulosin tablets for 15 days and I did that. For gastric he gave me tetracycline for 7 days, rebipragol sodium INN 20mg and peppermint oil 250 mg daily 2 times for 2 months. I took those medicines for 1 month but not feeling good at all.
I am now feeling discomfort and severe pain in not only my stomach but also lower back and lower Abdomen every time especially at bed time. Usually, the pain is accompanied by frequent release of gas as well as some painful sensation in the chest area. According to my job nature I have to work in computer all day long, so after sitting long time I feel severe lower back pain and also lower abdomen pain, I thought It will be ok if I take exercise but that it not happen. I read lower back pain is also cause for prostate enlargement. Is it true? If so what should I do and what medicine should I take? I have this lower back pain for long time (almost 5 years). It is gradually increased and unbearable.
Now my condition getting more then worst.
Now I am feeling extremely exhausted and weak all the time.
Please give me some advice and effective medicine for me.
Thanking you

Answer: Hello Dipu, Your problems seems to be GERD (Gastro esophageal reflux disease) and/or IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). On top of that there is an element of anxiety/depression also.
First - Stop going shopping for doctors (seeing different doctors). Find a good Gastroenterolgist and stick with his treatment for at least 6 months before thinking of change. I think you should be on PPIs like lansoprazole and something like domeperidone before meals to prevent reflux. But take everything only with the advice of a gastroenterologist.
Second - Find a good Psychiatrist to take care of the anxiety/depression part. Don't hesitate to consult a psychiatrist as I am sure you will be greatly benefited by his advice and treatment. It may be more important than gastroeneterology treatment. Do it immediately.
Third - Try to take food on correct time even if it is from outside. Take food daily three or four times at fixed time. Take more fruits and vegetables and fibre containing foods. Take at least 2-3 liters of water daily. Drink 3-4 glasses of warm water immediately on getting up from bed daily.
Fourth - Get good sleep daily at least 7 hours a day.
Fifth - Try to learn Yoga and learn meditation to relax yourself.
You don't have a major disease like cancer. So don't worry too much. Try to relax and take things more calmly.
Best of luck.

Answer: Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used for reflux (heartburn).
Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine used for panic disorder or seizures.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000635/#a682279-otherUses
Lorazepam is also a benzo used for anxiety.
Dothiepin is a tricyclic antidepressant.
Betahistine is used to treat vertigo.
Have you seen a neurologist or ENT specialist for your vertigo? Psychiatrists don't treat vertigo (unless this is your anxiety/panic disorder and not actually vertigo).

Answer: Panic attacks can occur at any time of the day or night , panic attacks are often mistaken for heart attacks or seizures.
A panic attack is a physiological response to fear or sudden anxiety. The object of the fear can be either physical (like a spider) or an event (fear of flying, fear of heart attack or dying) or it can be to an imagined situation or event. For many sufferers panic attacks occur without an apparent trigger, they just 'happen' despite your efforts to curtail them, and this causes a great deal of distress and anxiet
The usual medical treatment involves reassuring the patient that he or she is 'fine' and prescribing strong anxiolytic medication, which is often extremely addictive with side effects that are sometimes more debilitating than the panic attacks themselves. It is important to recognize that panic attacks can be relatively easily treated without medication and then to refer these patients for treatment during the early stages of the problem
Deal with Your Anxiety by Facing Its Cause Whatever it is that you are feeling anxious about and is causing you a great deal of stress, you should face it and deal with it. Procrastinating about it will not help with your anxiety; moreover, it will only worsen your problem. You should act upon your concerns as soon as possible.Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) are one of the oldest classes of antidepressants and are still used extensively. When depression occurs, there may be a decreased amount of these two chemicals released from nerve cells in the brain. When these chemicals are released from nerve cells they act to lighten mood. When they are reabsorbed into the nerve cells, they no longer have an effect on mood.
TCAs work by preventing this reabsorption of noradrenaline and serotonin back into the nerve cells. This prolongs the mood-lightening effect of any released noradrenaline and serotonin and in this way helps to relieve depression
Question: Patents grant an inventor sole commercial rights to their invention for a period of time. Drug makers have rec? Patents grant an inventor sole commercial rights to their invention for a period of time. Drug
makers have received patents for a large number of drugs over time including Liptor
(atorvastatin calcium), Zoloft (sertraline HCl), Zithromax (azithromycin), Nexium (esomeprazole
magnesium), etc. When that patent protection expires, competitors are free to introduce generic
versions of the original drug. Consider the market for Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium), produced by
Pfizer. Lipitor's patent protection expires in 2010. Show the effect of patent protection
expiration on the market for Lipitor.
I move the supply curve to the right, right?
Answer: It is true that the quantity of the generic available will be higher at a given price, so a shift to the right would be correct
