Answer: Mefenamic acid is a non steroidal inflammatory drug. Some women find it helps- it also reduces blood loss by 20% in most women, however it can cause gastro-intestinal disturbances. If you find this is a problem, try Naproxen- this is another NSAID but causes less GI disturbance. Naproxen works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, which in turn reduce the contractions of the uterus. Another option would be seeing if your GP will prescribe an Antispasmodic drug. This sometimes helps with cramps. If everything fails, the pill is another option or progesterone norithisterone might be the way to go.

Answer: I am also taking these tablets i have been taking them for 3 years now. They dont stop the bleeding but they do help with the pain. I start to take mine 3 days before my period is due and usually kicks in around the first day which is great. I have really heavy and painful periods and these really help but not for the first month or so. Took like 2 months before i actaully felt the benefit. Hope this helps
