Minocycline
Question: Minocycline? Okay so my doc prescribed me minocycline for my acne. is it really effective and when will i see results? i have a little past mild acne.. will my acne all clear up? i also heard about side effects.. will they happen to EVERYONE or just individuals?
Answer: It works well...just stay out of the sun, I'm sure your doctor told ya though. It might take up to a month to see results. Its hard to say how individuals respond.
Question: minocycline? i have been taking minocycline for my acne for about 2 months. i dont have access to it for about 4 nights (my mistake). will i get sick for not taking it like i would with other perscriptions???
Answer: No.Minocycline is one of those odd type antibiotics that you must take for months to see a benefit in acne.It was the best treatment 20 yrs ago and probably still is.I know you want your zits gone tomorrow but be patient As with all medications as none of us is perfect you will miss some doses once in awhile. No problem. It certainly wont make you sick and I doubt you will be able to tell the difference. If you skip a month-well thats another story!Good luck!
Question: How long would it take for Minocycline to turn your skin blue? A build up of Minocycline can cause blue spots on the skin due to iron deposits. Does anyone know how long it would take for this to happen? I'm paranoid!
Answer: Minocycline doesn't turn your skin blue. Talk to your pharmacist.
Question: Can the antibiotic minocycline permanently cure acne after a three month course? My doctor has put me on 3 month course of minocycline to get rid of my acne. I have to take one 50mg tablet twice a day. Can it permanently cure my acne after the three months? Or will it come back after the three months have finished? I have been taking it for exactly one wee and the results have been very good so far, clearing up the acne nicely. It's just leaving acne scars which will eventually go.
Answer: Minocycline is probably the most successful of the oral antibiotics used in acne. Unfortunately it is basically acting as a symptom drug and does not deal with the underlying cause. If the skin was in good condition it was my practice to try stopping the drug after 3 months. Unfortunately this often leads to a recrudescence of the problem. The usual practice is to then try a 6 month course. The drug can be safely used for very prolonged periods and is sometimes given for years.
Question: What is the difference between apo and sandoz minocycline? Minocycline pills are pills for acne. The first bottle I got was apo-minocycline. (Capsule: APX)
The second bottle I asked to renew came back with a label saying sandoz-minocycline. (Capsule: SDZ)
Can anybody tell me the difference? :)
thanks!
Answer: They are the same medication just different manufacturer. The pharmacy prob just ran out of the other brand. It's like buying Wonder bread and Jewel bread. Two different brands same product LOL!
Question: How long does Minocycline antibiotic take to work on acne? Ok I'm a 15 year old boy that has been taking Minocycline antibiotics for two weeks now. I have seen a little improvement in my skin and much less spots. Will these effects keep on getting better?
Answer: What did the doctor tell you?
How long are you supposed to be on it?
What do the instructions say on the side of the product?
There should be a toll free number on the packaging for you to call if you have questions. Call that number & ask.
Question: Can minocycline be used in the treatment of chlamydia? I am on minocycline 100mg for acne. Just had my boyfriend test positive for chlamydia. Usually, Doxycycline is prescribed for that. I was wondering, is Minocycline just as effective as clearing it up?
Answer: No. Although most drugs are tagged as anti-bacterial, it doesn't mean it can cure just any disease. There are certain antibiotics meant for lower body infections and others for upper body only. Go see a doctor.
Question: What's the difference between apo and sandoz minocycline pills? Minocycline pills are pills for acne. The first bottle I got was apo-minocycline. (Capsule: APX)
The second bottle I asked to renew came back with a label saying sandoz-minocycline. (Capsule: SDZ)
Can anybody tell me the difference? :)
thanks!
Answer: "apo" and "sandoz" are two different drug manufacturers. For the most part, both drugs contain the same active ingredient.
Question: What is the right way to take minocycline? What is the right way to take minocycline?
how long do i wait to eat food before taking minocycline and after taking it?
i have taken it for about 2 month and i still see no diffenert on my skin
i still have about 30 red marks n acne breaking out
if anyone could tell me the RIGHT way to take it .
it would be great.
Answer: My dermatologist told me to wait 2 hours before AND after taking the pill. Because if you eat or drink anything besides water, the chances of it being effective are decreased by at least 30%
If this doesn't seem to work, you may need a different type of medication such as accutane or whatever your dermatologist recommends
Question: Is it normal to have mild headaches whilst taking minocycline? I have just started taking minocycline, has been about a week now. I have experiences mild headaches for about 4-5 days and I have felt some pressure in my head for the last two days (like behind the ears and the bridge of my nose area), usually happens from the afternoon and continues till the night. Is this normal? I have been on doxycycline about a year before this and I have had no serious side effects.
Answer: I take minocycline and I have a constant mild pressure/headache while taking it. It stops when I discontinue use. No bueno.
Question: How long does the Minocycline pills take to clear my acne? I just got put on the minocycline pills for my acne a day ago. So far i have been following the exact directions that my doctor has told me to do. I have to take 2 pills a day (Morning and Night) along with washing my face with a special cleanser proscribed by my doctor with special pads, How long will my acne start to go away after i follow the directions perfectly?
Answer: You will start to see results in a few days. It will takes weeks though to clear your face, depending on the severity of the acne.
Are you aware that minocycline is less effective if taken with food? It looses 1/3 of its effect if taken with milk or milk products. Try to take one hour before a meal or two hours after eating.
Question: How Long should I be on Minocycline for my acne? I have been on Minocylcine for four months, it has worked well, but I'm tired of taking a pill everyday. I'm scared to get off Minocycline, because my acne may flare-up again. I'm scared it will damage to me for being on it for so long.

Question: How long does Minocycline take to work? My doctor prescribed me for Minocycline a week ago for acne, and I have seen hardly any improvement. How long does it take to work, and more importantly, does it work?
Answer: its been about a week for me too, and i can see a difference but not much yet, my doc said that the best results will be in two months. Good things don't work over night but over time. Im also on Retin A and Duac and its starting to work i know it will be worth my time/money!
Question: What will happen if I stop taking minocycline? I have been taking minocycline to treat my acne for about a year now. So far its working moderately, my skin isnt flawless but its more controlled. I do, however, want to stop taking antibiotics because I hear they are bad for your health. But im afraid that if I stop taking minocycline, my crazy breakouts will come back. And they are very severe. Im thinking about asking my dermatologist to switch to isotretinion or accutane. Any suggestions?
Answer: I'm really not a fan of antibiotics for the treatment of acne for several reasons. For one, like you said, being on antibiotic for long periods of time is really not good for your health because they take good bacteria away along with the bacteria that's causing the acne. Another reason why I dislike them is because they only work while you're taking them. So, you are right about the fact that your acne will probably come back if you stop taking them. Finally, I don't like them because the body can easily become immune to them and they will have no effect after time.
If you do have severe acne (cysts, nodules, etc.) I would highly recommend isotretinoin. I have a little less than a month and a half left of Claravis (a generic Accutane) and have gone from having severe acne to just a few whiteheads. The only side-effects I've experienced are dryness and occasional joint/back pain. There are more serious side-effects that could possibly occur, but they are very rare.
If your acne is not severe enough for you to get Accutane or your derm won't prescribe it to you, I would still recommend that you stop the minocycline. You could try a topical retinoid such as retin-a micro, tazorac, differin, or epiduo instead. These will work for most people, but they do take time.
Good luck clearing your acne.
Question: A healthier way of getting rid of acne without using minocycline? I have been taking minocycline for over 6months so I have to have a checkup to make sure I havent suffered any serious side effects. Im only 14 so I dont wanna be putting my body at risk for another 5 or so years. Is there a less harmful way of treating acne?
Answer: At Home Remedies For Acne
If you are having problems with acne and nothing seems to be helping, don't give up. There are some simple, home remedies you may not have tried yet. First I want to cover a few basic points just to be sure they're covered. Washing your face is important when you have acne. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser or soap. Avoid scrubs or anything potentially irritating to your skin.
Keeping your face clean doesn't end with washing, in fact that's just the beginning. Touching your face can lead to more problems. Oils dirt and bacteria from your fingers can actually cause breakouts. Keep your hair off your face for the same reason. And avoid irritating your skin by keeping hair products off your face. When washing your hair lean your head back and wash and rinse away from your face. When styling keep your face covered. Also replace or wash pillow cases and sheets every two or three days to help keep your face clean and avoid additional breakouts.
Drink water. Soda and juice are not good enough it has to be water. Consume at least one full liter of water everyday. This will help keep your body and your pores cleansed and detoxed.
Fast Acne Remedies
1) Toothpaste: Use a plan toothpaste, not a gel, tarter control formula or anything fancy like that.
* Dab the toothpaste directly on to the blemish and leave it there for an hour or so, the time differs from person to person. You will know its working when it starts to tingle. Toothpaste will dry the blemish, reducing the swelling and the inflammation.
* After giving the toothpaste time to work wash it off with warm water and a gentle soap or cleanser. If your blemish hasn't dried out yet it just needs more time so start over.
2) Hemorrhoid Cream: Any hemorrhoid cream will work. These creams are fast acting anti-inflammatories. They will take out swelling and inflammation almost immediately. Application time varies from brand to brand so read and follow the indications for the type that you choose.
Natural Acne Remedies
1) Zinc: Supplement your diet with this mineral to help relieve and cure acne. You can find Zinc at your grocery store. Follow the indications and dosage on the bottle and you should see results within a few weeks.
2) Tea tree oil: The strong antiseptic quality off this natural oil will kill any bacteria on your skin that are causing and maintaining pimples almost instantly.
* Repeat daily.
3) Rose Water: Roses contain Phenyl ethanol which is a natural antiseptic and disinfectant, and Eugenol which is anti-microbial and astringent. Both of these substances are use full in treating acne.
* Apply the rose water directly to the affected area with a cotton ball.
4) Cinnamon and Honey: Mix 1 tbs. of honey with 11/2 tsp. of cinnamon powder.
* Apply a thin layer of the honey-cinnamon mix to your face in the same way you would put on a facial mask. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and then wash your face.
* Repeat the application once a day.
* Save the remaining part of your mixture in a covered container. Refrigerating is optional.
Acne and Diet
Recently researchers have found a diet high in carbohydrates with a high glycemic index, which cause glucose and insulin levels to spike, will influence the development and severity of acne. Alternatively, a diet high in protein and carbohydrates with a low glycemic index seems to reduce the frequency and severity of acne breakouts.
Other possible culprits of acne include milk and lack of fresh vegetables. As reported in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, a significant positive association was found between acne and milk intake. Further, diets rich in fresh fruits and vegetables supply large amounts of antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories.
Keep a food journal to better understand what foods may be contributing to your acne. Log what you eat and when in your journal. Then if there is a breakout look at what you've eaten for a day or two before hand and see if there is a notable pattern.
Though a few quick fixes are available for short term relief getting and keeping acne under control may take some time. Choose a treatment plan that sounds right to you and stick with it for at least eight weeks before deciding whether or not its working.
Caution: If irritation occurs while using one of these or any other topical skin treatment stop use immediately. Rinse the irritated area thoroughly with cool water and do not use the treatment again. If irritation persists after rinsing consult a physician.
Question: Does minocycline make your eyes more sensitive to light? I was recently prescribed a course of Minocycline. About two days after first taking it, I noticed an increased sensitivity to light - found it hard to read certain contrasts (black on white, white on black etc) and found it quite uncomfortable simply being outside. Is this normal?
Thanks!
Answer: yes, increased sensitivity to light is one of the listed side effects of oral minocycline:

Question: How long does it take to see positive results from Minocycline? About a year ago after shaving my skin broke out below my mouth. Ever since, I have not been able to shave that spot without a SEVERE breakout. I have tried everything and have seen a few doctors. Some things supress the breakouts, but nothing has cured it. I went to a new doctor the other day and she prescribed me Minocycline. The very next day, I started breaking out all over, not in just the normal spot. I have read on the web that my acne may get worse before I see results.
Has this happened to anyone else? And if so, how long until it started getting better again? Thanks - this sucks.
Answer: Minocycline is used for help to get rid of acne. Try washing your face there as well at least one a day. And yes the acne will get worse before it starts to work. Make sure you take it twice a day (if prescribed). I would also suggest asking your doctor for Differn. If used with the minocycline, it can really help.
Question: Are there any potential problems taking minocycline prior to oral surgery with IV anesthesia? Just wondering if there are any drug interactions or other issues that could arise. I am aware that minocycline causes more dizziness than others, so that could affect ease of recovery. Thanks.
Clarification: the dizziness may affect recovery *adversely*.
Answer: No problem at all with the drugs used for IV sedation. Only a few drugs that you may be given post operative may pose a slight problem. Just make sure that you tell them any and all meds you may be on when you go in. Good luck with the extractions.A dentist
Question: Can my Minocycline for acne treat my potentially chlamydia? I think I may have been infected because I have had a burning sensation on my penis head and I have been taking minocycline for my acne for about 2 years and I researched online and a treatment is doxycycline (or minocycline) 100mg for a week. So I'm just wondering if I have it will it clear it up?
Answer: It should. Minocycline is not the first line of treatment, but is a sufficient tetracycline to eliminate the STD. You did your homework, bravo. Ensure you take the dose regularly, .. and get adequate sleep, keep up hygiene and proper diet.
Good luck,
Question: How Effective Are Doxycycline, Minocycline, and Tetracycline in Treating Acne? I'm taking 200 mg of doxycycline a day for my mild inflammatory acne, and I tried lose dose accutane before that, but it failed. Are doxycycline, minocycline, and tetracycline very effective in teating mild to severe acne? I hope this works, because I've run out of options.
Answer: I noticed very little change after starting tetracycline. I used it for about 3 months, then gave up.
I would not recommend it.
All in all, it was a waste of money, stained my teeth (a common side-effect of long-term antibiotics), and made my acne harder to treat because it built up a resistance to antibiotics. From what I have heard (And semi-experienced - although I have never tried accutane), the only oral medication that really consistently works is regular to high dosage Accutane, otherwise just stick with topical stuff.
Good luck!
