Mirapex
Question: How long does it take for Mirapex to get into your system? I just got put on Mirapex for Restless Legs Syndrome...does anyone know how long it takes for it to be effective? It seems to be helping...but it has only been one night. Im not sure if that is just by chance or not. Any ideas? Thanks, Heather
Answer: Medications such as this should take one-two weeks before you notice any significant improvement. It also depends on the severity of your symptoms. RLS ( Restless Leg Syndrome) is a relatively new disorder. If your symptoms persist or worsen, call your Doc that prescibed the medicine.I hope this helps and Good Luck. P.S. did you receive an information sheet from the pharmacy where you had the prescription filled??
Question: what medications other than mirapex and sinamet are used for parkinsons? One the WalMart $4 medication list there were 2 Neurological medications. I do not know what they were and want to know if they are medication for PD. Mirapex and Sinamet are our of my price range as I have no insureance
Answer: Mirapex (pramipexole) and Sinamet (carbidopa/levodopa) would be pretty expensive because they are brand name drugs. You can surely see how a wal-mart brand of aspirin would cost less than Tylenol (T.M.).
You should be happy though. I doubt you really want to know the classes of drugs used (i know 3), butI checked out the Wal Mart $4 club that you spoke of and saw both Trihexyphenidyl and Benztropine there. Trihexyphenidyl is commonly used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's though, of course, you know there is no cure. Benztropine may be used in the early stage of the disease.
Both of these are prescription drugs; consult with your doctor and he will know which he considers right for you. Wal-Mart will supply you with drugs just as good as Mirapex without draining your pocket dry.
Question: My doctor prescribed me Mirapex for Restless Leg Syndrome - is this safe to take with my Ambien? I've really never liked taking medicines like this, but sometimes you get to the point where you breakdown and ask for help from your doctor. I'm a little worried about taking the two together, despite my doctor saying it was fine as long as it's taken responsibly.
Could you give me your experiences?
Answer: If you dont believe your doctor Why ask on YA
Question: Anyone know what kinds of side effects there are with Mirapex and alcohol with heavy usage of marijuana?
By the way, it is not me who is taking this combination of things...I am asking so I can help a good friend who is engaging in this kind of activity.
Answer: I don't know...and I don't care to find out. I can tell you this...you are playing with fire and your life. Mirapex (or any medication) should NEVER be used in combination with alcohol or drugs...never ever ever.
If you are using alcohol or drugs, DO NOT take the Mirapex.
Yes, Mirapex is effective...I use it myself, having suffered from RLS for many years. It works...but I do not drink or use drugs at all...EVER.
If you keep us using, you might me or someone like me breaking down your front door and rushing in to save your life (assuming that you could be saved).
EMT
If this isn't about you, then I apologize...but for whoever is it about...they are really taking a chance.
Question: I use mirapex for my RLS my insurance won't pay how can I get my perscrition for a lower price? I'm 55 years old and need this to sleep at night thier is no generic and no other medication works for me. Any ideas?

Question: I have RLS and I am on Mirapex and Magnisum and zinc any other ways to help naturaly? I have tried the bar of soap and exercise(which seems to make it worse) and warm baths, massage, and lavender/oil based lotion(calming).
Answer: It sounds like you're using the main things that would help Restless Legs, so if those aren't working, you may need to consult with a specialist. The only other thing I've ever heard of was a Homeopathic formula or two that were specifically for Restless Legs (I think they both had that in the name)... you should be able to find something like that in your local health food store. Good luck and I hope I helped!
Question: Is there a lawsuit for people who have Parkinsons and is on Mirapex and also has a gambling addiction?
Answer: Who would you sue? Your Parkinsons' doctor, your mirapex doctor, the casino or all of the above?
To answer the question, no.
Most "sober" addicts I've known say that the first step to recovery is accepting responsibility for your actions.
Question: What are dosage levels for Mirapex? Is it dangerous to take a higher dosage for RLS?
Answer: For RLS, dosage runs from o,125mg to 0.5mg.
Higher doses of any medicine increases the risks of side effects.
Question: I take 60mg of Cymbalta for fibromaylgia & Mirapex for RLS pain. Can I also take Sam-e? I Have fibromyalgia and restless leg syndrome. Can't find anything that helps for the pain. I take Cymbalta and Mirapex. Can I safely try Sam-e for pain?
Answer: From what I have been told-it is NOT recommended to take SAMe with medications in the SSRI, SNRI classes
Question: i am now taking 2mg mirapex daily if i double dose would i be able to dance? be able to dance at my anniversary party?
Answer: u should never take more than ordered

Question: I have been on Mirapex for a yr. and all of sudden have starting having cavities. Has anyone else had this? My dentist thinks it is because it makes your mouth so dry. That is the only change I have made was taking the Mirapex.

Question: Besides mirapex what can be taken for restless leg syndrome?
Answer: Most of the time, restless leg syndrome is related to a mineral deficiency. Magnesium is most common, followed by iron and calcium.
Try supplementing with 250mg/d Magnesium citrate (or Mag. glycinate) for a week or so. If there's no change, you may want to ask your doc to test your iron levels.
Note: Supplementing with iron when there's no deficiency can cause problems on the long term, but almost anyone can supplement for a few weeks to a month with up to 20mg iron daily without much concern aside from potentially causing some constipation. (Provided, of course, that there's no underlying condition related to iron metabolism such as thallasemia or hemochromatosis.)
Question: Anyone with experience with the drug Mirapex? I'm just starting (titrate to 200mg), and it seems like the side effects listed by the manufacturer could be different for different people. So far I've been a little sleepy. Any thoughts or advice from your experience?
Answer: I haven't any experience with it, but I've found a link that you may find interesting. It's user comments and ratings on Mirapex. : )
Question: How long has mirapex been on the market? In my case used for pain
Answer: Barry - Mirapex, produced by Pharmacia & Upjohn, was first approved for marketing in June 1997 for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
Mirapex (pramipexole) is the first Parkinson’s agent approved by the FDA since Somerset’s monoamine oxidase inhibitor Eldepryl in 1989. Mirapex, a non-ergot D3 dopamine agonist, is approved for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease.
Question: Mirapex - What is meant by "Unusual" Sexual Urges? Do they mean an unusually high level of urges, or unusual in the sense that you're wanting to do "unusual" activities?
I don't have an Rx for this - I'm just amused by the commercials
Answer: You need to obtain this information from the doctor who has prescribed this medication for you. No one other your own doctor should answer this question because a professional in the field of mental disorders is able to define this item to you in the fullest sense of the word.
Question: has anyone ever tried requip or mirapex? because i'm might be getting prescribed some soon and i'm interested in what it feels like... does it make you feel drowsy, or euphoric, or hungry, or how exactly does it feel? are there any psychoactive effects at all?
Answer: Requip/mirapex is for restless leg syndrome. There is a whole slue of side effects ranging from sleepless nights to hallucinations. i suggest take in extreme moderation, always before bed, never during the day or while operating machinery, play it safe and you will be fine!
Question: should I cut the dosage of my mirapex? I took the 0.5mg of the medicine yesterday. It made me sleep, okay.
Today I took half the amount, now I have diarrhea. I'm going to take
half of the half, that I took today. Do you think their is any harm doing
this? Thank You
Answer: How long have you been taking this drug? It doesn't sound like it has been long since you are having side effects. Since it is the weekend and you probably can't get in contact with your MD, try the lower dose and call the MD on Monday. If you have been on Mirapex for a while, don't stop it cold as you could have some severe side effects. Some people have to be weaned off.
Here are some side effects:
Possible side effects of Mirapex :
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:
Abnormal dreams; constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; loss of appetite; nausea; stuffy nose; tiredness; trouble sleeping; upset stomach; weakness.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); abnormal thinking; change in behavior, mood, or emotions; chest pain; confusion; decreased sexual ability; difficulty walking; fainting; hallucinations; increased urination; memory loss; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; new or unusual skin growths; severe or persistent drowsiness or sleepiness; shortness of breath; sudden irresistible urge to sleep or suddenly falling asleep at unusual times; swelling of the arms or legs; trouble swallowing; unusual or intense urges (eg, gambling, sexual urges); unusual twitching or muscle movements; vision changes; vivid dreams or daydreams.
This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. You may also report side effects at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch.
Question: Is Mirapex responsible for the gambling urges I seem to be having?
Answer: Not legally. However, if you are an addicted gambler and your believe that company is to some degree responsible, contact them. If nothing else, they will refer you to counseling or rehabilitation you could use. If you would like to take legal action, though, have a discussion with a lawyer before you contact anyone.
Question: I have RLS and have tried requip, and mirapex with it? only making it worse. That was 3 yrs ago. Now, because of an injury i have nerve damage in my arm and the doc prescibed Lyrica. My question is: has anyone tryed Lyrica for RLS? what are the side affects? what is the best dosage? any other info is greatly appreciated.
Answer: Mayo Clinic has a site on Lyrica (aka pregabalin). But this is a tough question to really answer.
It is often taken multiple times a day and a doctor can prescribe Lyrica such that the total dose for a day can be up to 600mg. Much of the dosing really depends on what caused the discomfort and how severe the patient describes it to be.
