Mirena
Question: mirena???? I had my mirena put in today. what can i expect as far as weight issues go? I gained weight while i was on the YAZ. Can i expect to start losing it now?
Answer: I didn't have any issues with weight before getting Mirena. I do know I have gained or lost anything I have stayed the same in the year I have had it.
Question: MiReNa..............? is it worth it?anyone that has had it...how long did u bleed after getting it put in?
im getting it the day b4 i leave to see my husband for a week & i dont want to be bleeding :(
Answer: I have had the Mirena for over a year. Didn't bleed hardly at all when I got it. Just some cramping, compared to having a baby, it was NOTHING! :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Mirena. I have only had one period and it was so light I almost didn't even realize I was having one. I took the pill for like ten years. After my son, we were pretty sure we didn't want anymore children and I just couldn't remember to take the pill everyday anymore. Mom brain I guess! So I would say the Mirena is totally worth it and I would do it again. I also have at least 5 friends that have it, they love it as well.
Question: How fast after the Mirena removal does it take to get pregnant? I am getting my Mirena removed on Dec. 17th I am wondering how soon I can become pregnant? How soon do you get your period after the removal? Im anxious to conceive my daughter is 5 1/2 and Ive been on the Mirena for 2 years.
Answer: Nobody can say how quickly you will conceive I'm afraid but once the device is removed your fertility will return to its "pre-Mirena" state very quickly.
You really need to use condoms until you get your period just to let the residual hormones leave your system and give the doctors a reliable LMP (last menstrual period) to work on when dating your pregnancy.
You should start to ovulate again once you have had this first period but whether you will actually become pregnant straight away is another matter. Sometimes it takes months to conceive a baby despite the best will in the world.
Best of luck. Remember to take your Folic Acid supplements. The best time to have sex is mid cycle (around days 10-18 when an egg is in the fallopian tube) and once every other day is fine, too much sex can actually deplete the man's sperm supply
Question: How is the birthcontrol Mirena removed and does it hurt? I am on the Mirena method of BC and it has side effects. Bad back pain and cramping all the time!! I was wondering how is it removed and does the doctor have to remove it?
Answer: Yes, the doctor needs to remove it. However removal is pretty darned easy. They just pull it out. It takes about 5 seconds, if that.
Question: How much do you have to pay for Mirena if I have Tricare insurance? My husband is active duty. We are stationed on Fort Riley. I asked before if Tricare offered Mirena. You said yes, but how much is it? Being in the military, we dont have to pay for healthcare or prescriptions as we know (on post), but does that mean I get Mirena for free too?
Answer: If you have tricare prime it should be covered.
Question: How long does spotting occur after placement of the Mirena? I got the Mirena in late April and i am still spotting. Is this normal and if so how much longer am i gonna b spotting? Is it ok to have sex during this? I really need some opinions and advice from Mirena users. Thank you.
Thank you all for your answers. They are all such good answers i cant figure out witch one should be best answer so i am going to let the public decide.
Answer: i have the mirena and i love it. at first i hated it with all the spotting and irregularity but if you are like me eventually you will love it. i havent had a period in almost 2 1/2 years. i dont bleed but i can tell when i should be. sometimes my breast are a little tender and i have a little bloating - but not having to worry about tampons - its amazing
the spotting lasted about 4 months with me and sometimes i will bleed after having sex but other than that everything is great
good luck
Question: How long after mirena removal did you get pregnant? I am getting my mirena removed this coming Tuesday. We will track my cycle for 2-3 months and then start trying for a girl :)
How long did it take you to get pregnant after you had your mirena removed?
Answer: I had my mirena taken out in December I didnt ovulate untill february, and periods started then 15 days later. So this is our 5 month of trying, an no luck yet.
Question: what can i expect when my mirena is taken out? I want to take my mirena out because me and my husband are planning to have another baby. I was just wondering what the symptoms are after.
Will I have heavier bleeding?
Will I have longer periods?
Will I get my period more than once a month?
I know everyone is different but I wanted to get an idea. Thanks!
Answer: i got mine taken out a month ago for us ttc but i had just a little spotting no cramping but some people do get cramping I am still waiting for my period to come sometimes it takes awhile the first time i got my mierna out it was dec and I never got pregnant till July but mostly your just gonna have cramping or light spotting=)
Question: How long after your Mirena IUD was removed did you get pregnant? I know the mirena website says you go back to normal as if you never had it, but I want to know about you Mirena users. How long did it take you personally to get pregnant once it was out?
Answer: We got pregnant on our first attempt after having it taken out!
Good luck!
Question: Can the birth control mirena with diabetic women increase their chances of getting sick? My best friend has type 1 diabetes and uses mirena. She is ony 19 but the doctor said that mirena is the only birth control that wont mess up her regular medications. She has been getting sick and catching infections and rashes like ring worm. Should she talk to her doctor about other alternatives?
Answer: The birth control may not be interfering with her insulin or other medications as much as it is raising her blood sugar levels, making her more susceptible to illness and infection. When I was an undiagnosed diabetic, I was frequently getting low-level infections and sick several times a year.
Whatever the cause, she should absolutely talk to her doctor to find out if this change in health can be attributed to the Mirena. Although many diabetic women have no problems on birth control or IUDs, some experience blood sugar problems due to the hormonal changes.
Question: Mirena???? does anyone know if the birth control mirena is for a FACT and iud. my insurance covers iuds. i was wondering if maybe it was some other form . hope that makes sence. and... can you still breastfeed with mirena or does it dry you up? anyone else too busy to remember the frikin pill??
Answer: Yep, I kept forgetting to take the pill too and it made me feel depressed and fat. I got my Mirena last year and it is the best!! It is definitely an IUD (said so on the box!). You have it inserted by your doctor, I just took some ibuprofen beforehand and it didn't really hurt. I had some bad cramping for about 2 days afterwards and some bleeding on and off for about 6 weeks but after that my periods got shorter and lighter - then disappeared! It is so fantastic not having periods anymore.
As far as I know the Mirena works on progesterone and the progesterone acts locally. If you were on the mini-pill (progesterone only pill - which I hated by the way) you could breastfeed, I'm sure the Mirena is safe but check with your doc.
The main piece of advice I'd have, if you're considering it, is to give it a few months to settle. Some people want it taken out after a few weeks but stick with it, it's worth it. Some people do end up unhappy with it, but it's pretty rare.
Question: Pregnancy after Mirena: How quickly did your cycle come back? I am getting my Mirena IUD out on December 5th. We're hoping to start trying for kids soon :) Problem with planning is I have had no idea when I'm ovulating for the past seven months. How quickly did your cycle come back to normal?
Answer: My period came two weeks after I had my Mirena pulled and was right on schedule with when it came before I had the IUD inserted. However I have been ttc for 6 months since then with no luck. It turns out I don't ovulate on my own anymore (I have 1 child so I know I worked before). My OB said he has noticed that there seems to be a link between women who have had the Mirena in for more than a year and having problems ovulating after it is removed. This is just his observation in his personal practice, but he always does a progesterone serum test 7 days after a women is suppose to ovulate normally if she hasn't concieved within 6 months of having the Mirena removed. This test tells him whether the women ovulated or not, I had mine done at 4 months because he has encountered this issue enough to kind of guess what was going on and he was right. My advice is give it a few months after your cycle resumes and then go push for this test, there is no chance you will conceive if you aren't ovulating. Good luck and many wishes to both of us for a 2010 baby!
Question: How was your experience with Mirena and getting pregnant? I'm going to get my Mirena IUD out on Sept 23 and I'm just curious to hear stories of others who have had Mirena and decided to get pregnant. I am having mine out for the purpose of becoming pregnant. I just want to know how long it took some people to conceive after having it taken out. I know everyone is different, but I would like to hear some experiences from those who have used the IUD. Thank you.
Answer: I got my mirena out July 16th and we started trying after my first cycle. My DR told me I would be able to get pregnant 7 days after it was removed, but it was best to wait until after the first cycle. I will let you know how it goes this month...i should be able to test saturday or sunday
**UPDATE-I just got a positive pregnancy test last night. I didn't have periods during the later part of having the Mirena. I got it removed July 16th and had bleeding for 3 days after. My first period came Aug 3rd, I Ovulated August 17th, and I got my positive test just after midnight on the 29th of August. It's just very important to learn about your body and when you might be ovulating and spend lots of time with your significant other during that time :) Good luck
Question: How soon after Mirena removal should I experience bleeding? Ive had my Mirena a little over 3 years. I had it removed with hopes of ttc. I still have not experienced any bleeding. Some mild cramping off and on though. Is this normal? Whats your experience like?
Answer: Some women have a slight bleed within 3 days , some as late as 6 weeks late. If it's any longer than that take a hpt to be sure.
The cramping could be pre-period or implantation.
Best of luck.
Question: How long after mirena removal can i start ovulating? I had my mirena removed on oct. 29th, and i have been testing every day since nov 10th to check for ovulation and nothing yet. could this be a sign that i might have infirtility problems? i have had one child and she was concieved while i was on the patch. please help i am loosing my mind! thanks
Answer: mine was removed in august and i still have not ovulated yet, i have not had the EWCM stringy clear mucous, i am anxiously waiting for this, i have had 2 mirena s and have no children yet! i have had them in total for 9 years and a break of 2 months betwenn them, I think it will take time for the ovulation to restart for some as a GP i spoke to said that the symptoms i was having....vaginal dryness and ovarian cysts caused my body to almost go into menopausal mode and she said that if she were in my position she would have it removed especially as i does take time for fertility to return for some. The reaon i go tthe mirena was it was one of the few that would allow your body to return to normal as soon as it was removed,
Hope your fertility returns to normal soon!
Baby dust to you ....
Question: How long does Mirena take to be effective? I just got Mirena and my doctor told me to use another form of birth control for 2 weeks because it takes 2 weeks to become effective. I thought this was strange. I looked online and it looks like most people say it works immediately. I also called the Bayer Co. (the manufacturer) and they said it's effective immediately if inserted within 7 days of my period (which it was).
Any thoughts ?
Answer: I would go with the manufacturer's information. Sometimes doctors just say these things to cover themselves.
Question: Is it safe to get pregnant right after getting Mirena removed? My husband and I are thinking about having another child. I have had Mirena for almost 2 years, but think we would like to have another child in a year or so. Would it be safe to start trying immediately after getting it removed? Just curious, there is still a lot of planning to do.
Answer: yeah it is save my sister in law got pregnant two weeks after removing it.
she almost due (:
Question: How soon did you get pregnant after removing the mirena? I just had mine removed last month on the 7th and on the 9th I stared my period. I should get my period by the 6th of this month unless the mirena messed with my cycle. I have been having symptoms of pregnancy but I also know that they could be pms symptoms but I have never had any symptoms of pms before the mirena. So I was just wanting to know how long it took you to get pregnant after you had the mirena removed?
Answer: I wasn't sure of my cycle after I had Mirena removed so we waited for one period and then the next month I was already pregnant.
Question: How long does it take to concieve after having Mirena IUD surgically removed? I have had no bleeding or discomfort since the removal. Has anyone had any experience with this? How long did it take you to conceive after your Mirena removal?
Answer: first, may i ask why you are having it SURGICALLY removed? did your string get lost, and they have to dialate you to remove it? if that were the case, i would imagine you would need to give your body some time to heal, however if it was normally removed, where its just pulled out, then you are supposed to be able to get pregnant in the same amount of time it would take, had you of NEVER been on birth control!
Question: Is it ok to Spin a day after getting my Mirena IUD insterted? I had a my mirena IUD inserted today, and I am planning on going to my hour spin class tomorow. Is this a bad idea so soon after getting it in? Could it "loosen" it or cause it to have a better chance of falling out?
Answer: I had mine put in like 4 or 5 months ago. The day I had mine put in I went for a very bumpy jeep ride with my boyfriend and I was fine. You might not be all that comfortable though. If its going to come out its going to come out regardless of the activities you do. Hope this helps!

I drug myself to the doctor and he offered Mirena as an alternative. He explained to me that because Mirena only releases a small amount of hormones locally (rather than entering the blood stream) I'd be less likely to feel any effects from it.
