Ofloxacin Otic Solution
Question: Can I use an Ofloxacin Opthalmic Drops instead of Ofloxacin Otic Drops for my ear infection? My friend is being medicated for his ear infection.
The Doctor Prescription is Ofloxacin Otic Drops 3mg/ml ( 3% solution ).
But he have Ofloxacin Opthalmic Drops 3mg/ml ( 3% solution ).
Can he use the Opthalmic Solution for the ear?
Answer: Hi there.
Yes, he can use an Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Drops instead of Ofloxacin Otic Drops for his ear infection. Since, they have the same dosage form and dosage strength of the active ingredients which is Ofloxacin 3mg/ml ( 3% solution ).
But he cannot use it the other way around using Ofloxacin Otic Drops for eye infection).
Since, the Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Drops are more sterile form than the Ofloxacin Otic Drops.
Have a nice day.
Question: Adult Ear Infection - How Long Until Symptoms Subside? I'm a healthy 23-year old guy, with the exception that about five days ago I started developing symptoms of what I thought was an ear infection. Lo and behold, after a visit to my physician, he confirmed it, and started me on medication right away. For the past three days, I've been taking Augmentin twice a day orally and ten Ofloxacin Otic Solution ear drops once daily. While I don't really have any severe pain in my left ear (the infected one) anymore, I still have a feeling of fullness, like there's liquid still in the middle ear that can't get out, even though I can 'pop' it by yawning and chewing. It's muffling my hearing, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to drain the fluid, if it's still hanging around in the middle ear. I've tried steam inhalation, tea, warm showers, the works.
I know it's different for each person, but I was wondering about how many days it's going to take until the symptoms subside? Thanks in advance!
I haven't tried taking a decongestant yet; thanks, I'll give that a shot. I do have slight allergies to pollen, but my physician confirmed after inspecting my ears that it was indeed an infection. Thanks again though, I'm going to give the decongestant thing a shot tomorrow, since I do have a bit of a cold as well!
Answer: Okay,
If by the 5th day you don't feel better it is HIGHLY likely you need a different kind of antibiotic to clear up the infection. Usually when on antibiotics, most of the pain and discomfort from an ear infection should be gone by day 3. But if it was very severe, it may take the full 7 days. But one thing I will tell you is do you have a cold as well? Try taking a decongestant such as sudafed I actually thought I had an ear infection because I had an extremely terrible earache and it turned out that my allergies had created liquid build up in my ears causing pressure, so you may want to investigate that possibility as well. Do you have allergies?
Question: Is it ok to drop Ofloxacin for 1 week & Clotrimazole for 3 weeks 4 drops 3x a day on a perforated ear drum? Is it ok to drop Ofloxacin Inoflox 3 mg/ml antibacterial OTIC SOLUTION ear drops, 4 drops 3 times a day for 1 week on a peroforated ear drum (a big hole in my ear drum)? and wait 5 minutes with head tilted sideways and then let it drain out then drop Bayer's Clotrimazole Canesten 1% solution Antifungal 4 drops 3 times a day but for 3 weeks also on the same peroforated ear drum (a big hole in my ear drum) and wait 5 mintues with my head tilted side ways until i let it drains out? will this possibly damage my ear or hearing? or is it ok? also how do i treat an Perforated (permanent big hole) on my ear since childhood i was 6 and up until now im 23 the hole is still there.. and already dry, it was punctured by an ENT when i was 6 yrs old and i was wondering is it still possible to close that opening because it seems to always get infected and its annoying..
Answer: Because you state that your tympanic membrane was punctured by an ENT, I am lead to believe this was done therapeutically. When done in this manner, the membrane usually heals over itself but it IS possible to have the perforation repaired. The procedure is called a tympanoplasty.
When oral antibiotics are ineffective for an infection in someone with a perforated eardrum, it is often necessary to use parenteral/intravenous medication to cure the infection rather than the use of drops as you describe. If these drops have been prescribed by an ENT, I recommend you discuss your options with your doctor.
Question: Help! i went to the doctors monday because i had a really bad ear infection in my left ear and its still here? The doctor (which I have to pay for because I don't have health insurance) prescribed me Azithromycin anitbiotics and 'ofloxacin otic solution' ear drops (which suck) on Monday its Friday now (obviously) and now my right ear is starting to hurt and I have a really bad headache.. should I go back to the doctors or just let the infection run its course? Also how long does it usually take till somebody feels healthy again my left ear stopped leaking blood and pus finally! But its still clogged.. I hate this so much I hope my right ear drum does not rupture =(
Answer: I actually currently have a ruptured ear drum, you may too. It doesn't hurt much, but it leaks blood and pus. the infection is prolly gone, and you are just feeling the swelling, but just to be sure mix 50% white vinegar with 50% rubbing alcohol an fut two drops in the infected ear. this will remove any water build up, and kill the infection. If this doesn't work and it gets worse go to the doc. Good lick!
Question: Did an infection cause permanent ear damage? July 13th is when I was prescribed amoxicillin and Ofloxacin Otic Solution ear drops for a bad ear infection.
They never told me what exactly it was, but the most prominent symptom was severe pain - I was literally unable to do anything except grasp my head and sob from the pain. My ears were both completely swollen shut so I also couldn't hear anything during the peak of the infection. I was unable to get any sleep at all and I couldn't do any daily activities for about a week before I could get a ride to the clinic and they could treat me for it. It was torture.
Anyway, they prescribed that stuff, and I took it, and the crippling pain continued, but the swelling went down after a week, and then I thought the infection went completely away as the pain eased to bearable levels and I could finally catch some sleep.
But as they haven't swollen back up the past 5 months, there are still times that I wake up in the middle of the night in extreme pain, the same amount of pain as when I had the infection, and it lasts for 5-20 minutes before going away. It's sort of like a shock in the night when I'm sleeping, and I wake up and can't rest my head again until it goes away.
As far as I know the infection is gone though. The outside of my ear is not sensitive to touch as the entire sides of my head was when I had the infection, BUT, when I lightly put a q-tip in my ear there is sometimes pain. I have absolutely no trouble hearing at all and my ears are never swollen.
I can't go to a doctor, so that's why I'm asking on here.
What I want to know:
Did the infection cause permanent ear damage? Is this pain going to be a regular occurrence for the rest of my life?
Also, yes, both of my ears were pretty severe, but my left ear and side of head had it first and was slightly worse by the time I got to the clinic than the other, but they were both very severe and they both still trigger...
Answer: Seems odd that you'd have such severe ear infections in both ears at once. If you're taking other medications, research to determine the side effects of that medication, with may have caused the severe ear pain (and still is).
