Oxytetracycline
Question: How long does oxytetracycline take to reduce acne? im 17 and have quite bad acne on the lower half of my face particularly around my chin.
recently prescribed oxytetracycline for a 3 month period.
how long till i see any difference?
Answer: It's funny because I too have had acne around my chin but after I took oxytetracycline most of it went away. Don't give up on it, you may think that it's not working but after about a month and a half most of your acne will be gone. You will still have a few but very little. I'm still taking it right now but I have seen very good results so far. Good luck!
Question: Does oxytetracycline work well with acne on the face? I have just started taking oxytetracycline and I was wondering when I should see an improvement. If you have any experiences of using oxytetracycline please share them with me. Did it work for you? How long did it take? and any other information you can provide me with.
Thanks in advanced.
Answer: I just typed in oxytetracycline into yahoo search and this was teh first q to appear, i was wanting to find out some info about them.
S started taking them about 1 week ago, i havent had any whitehead outbreaks as of yet (finger crossed) only small little ones are here. I am hoping it will work, but my ace is sort of improving.
Hope i helped!
Question: Can I take Oxytetracycline tablets with black tea? Black tea meaning no milk whatsoever, and I am apparently not allowed to take Oxytetracycline with diary products otherwise it won't work. But is drinking black tea with a Oxytetracycline tablet okay?
Answer: This shouldn't be a problem. It is the milk that precipitates the tetracycline in the stomach and inactivates it. Any alkali - eg antacids- will do the same thing.
Question: Has anyone been on oxytetracycline for acne and developed photo sensitivity? I have been put on oxytetracycline for acne, but also use a sunbed twice a week for 3 Min's each session to help dry my skin out, however one of the side affects of this drug is photo sensitivity. Does this affect a high percentage of people and what would happen if i continued to use a sunbed while in this drug? Thanks
Answer: 2 problems, first there is no way it is safe to use a sunbed, particularly 3 times a week, as the effects are cumulative, and especially from a young age, for the same reason. There is NO safe dose of radiation!
2nd issue, oxytetracycline is an old fashioned, difficult to take and not particularly effective antibiotic for acne. Minocycline or lymecycline are the preferred choices being once a day, avoiding the food/milk issues and being much more effective.
Question: Does oxytetracycline work for you to treat severe acne? Hi
I was prescribed to use oxytetracycline to cure my acne.
I'm curious if anyone who has tried it see the improvement and how long it took you to.
Thank you
Answer: Tetracycline and oxytetracyline should be avoided as they are awkward to take and not very effective. Minocycline or lymecycline are better.
Question: what would happen if i overdosed on oxytetracycline? I'm not going to, i'm just curious as to what would happen. Are they strong enough to kill you with just the smallest overdose?
Answer: You may die a rather slow and painful death from kidney failure, or require dialysis for the rest of your life. Tetracycline antibiotics are known for this in some susceptible people. Additionally, it will probably upset your stomach a great deal.
So no, there are more effective poisons out there to OD on.
Question: Is my oxytetracycline not working, or is it about to kick in? I've been taking the anti-biotics for acne for just over 4 weeks now, and they havn't helped at all...But in the past day or so my acne has suddenly got alot worse, with single spots showing up. Does this mean the antibiotics are about to kick in, and my acne will start to go? Thanks !
Answer: Because I haven't had the advantage of examining your TYPE of acne, it's not really possible to state that the tetracycline is the right medicine for your acne. However, having said that, it generally takes four to six weeks for that drug to really kick in.
Question: Is it safe to take Ecstasy (MDMA) whilst taking the antibiotic oxytetracycline? I am taking oxytetracycline which is part of the tetracycline group of antibiotics I understand for acne, is it safe to take ecstasy? Thank you in advance.
bruckie - just to add i have been using certain drugs recreationally for many years and I stayed at school and am currently at unviersity gaining a degree to pursue the career I want - it is possible to do this you know, not everyone who takes drug is a ****head. Thanks.
Answer: It's never safe to take Ecstasy... It can kill you even if you aren't taking antibiotics so why do you think it would be ok now?

Question: When you quit taking oxytetracycline because your skin has cleared up will it come back? Will my skin become dependant on the tablets?
Answer: It's possible that it will but it also might not. If you're concerned talk to your Dr about it.
Question: Oxytetracycline tablets, is this how they work to treat acne? Am I right in saying, that acne is partly cause by hormones, and when you have too much sugar more insulin is realeased which makes acne worse, and the tablets do something about that?
Can someone tell me how the oxytetracycline tablets work?
Answer: Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic used in the treatment of infections caused by tetracycline-sensitive organisms. Oxytetracycline works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to produce proteins that are essential to them. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow, multiply and increase in numbers. Oxytetracycline therefore stops the spread of the infection and the remaining bacteria are killed by the immune system or eventually die.
I've been taking Oxytetracycline for a couple of weeks now, and it's helping a bit, I've read that you have to be on it for a few weeks for it to have a full effect so I'm still going to take it, hopefully it continues to work.
Here's more information if you wanted it, hope it helps!;

Question: Is it safe to increase my dosage of oxytetracycline? When I first got it prescribed, the doctor said take ONE at night and TWO in the morning. But after 4 weeks I'm not really seeing any results, and the packet does say "Take ONE or TWO, TWICE a day" So would it be OK if I took 2 in the morning and 2 at night? Thanks!
Answer: The required dose of oxytetracycline or chlorophenical is only 2 grams per day.i.e in 24 hours. well, the taking of the dose depends.is it 250 milligrams or 500milligrams? further, ther should be atleast a time gap of six hours in taking the dose-and let me aware u.this oxytetracycline actually makes our enamel pale yellow permanently, if taken regularly and in large amount-so, first check the dosge....!
Question: Is Oxytetracycline used for ear infections? Is it used to treat Ear infections because my doctor prescribed me Oxytetracycline? Please help?
In the internet it says nothing about it being used for ear infections.. But is it possible for this drug to deal with ear infections?
Answer: Sometimes we have to let the doctor be the doctor.
Not all uses for a specific drug are listed in its profile. Oxytetracyline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It has many uses, not only those listed. One reason your doctor may have chosen this medication is that you have recently been on other antibiotics or perhaps you have a drug allergy. If in 48 hours you feel no relief, contact the doctor. However, I believe you will find an improvement in your condition.
Question: Can I buy oxytetracycline in a shop? I'm 14 and live in the UK and wondering if I can buy oxytetracycline tablets for acne myself in a shop?
1. Can you buy the tablet it's local drug stores eg superdrug, boots?
2. Do you have to have an adult with you? Or can I buy them myself? (I'm 14)
3. How much do they cost?
If you could answer my questions it will be really appreciated!! :) thank you!
Answer: That is an antibiotic and the majority are on prescription only . The doctor should prescribe them with no problems . They are not poisonous . Silly laws we have in Britain .
Question: How do doxcycline and Oxytetracycline antibiotics cost? I'm one of the 50 million americans without health insurance and i have a severe case of blepharitis(eye infection). ANybody know the cost of going to t he dodctor and the cost of the antibiotics?
Answer: Blepharitis is a common condition that causes inflammation of the eyelids and it can affect people of all ages.Â
Inflammation happens when the body tries to fight an injury or infection and the specific area tends to look swollen and sore.
Blepharitis usually affects both eyes on the edge of the eyelids and although rarely serious, it can be an uncomfortable, persistent and irritating problem.
The inflammation results in scaly and crusty eyelids and the eyes may also feel tired and gritty or become uncomfortable in sunlight or smoky atmospheres. The eyelids may also look red in people with fair skin.
Blepharitis is often associated with skin conditions such as rosacea and eye conditions like conjunctivitis.
The condition can return at any time and eyelids may occasionally become infected because of the inflammation, which may develop into styes (hordeolum) and pustules (pus filled spots). However, you can usually deal with symptoms at home and eyesight is rarely affected.
Good eye care is essential at all times to stop the condition occurring again, even when the symptoms are not visible.Â
Symptoms will usually ease with the following:
Boil some water and let it cool for a while. Soak cotton wool in the hot (but not boiling) water and gently clean the eyelids for 2 3 minutes at a time and repeat the process as often as possible.
Massage the eyelids by gently rolling your first finger on the eyelids in a circular motion as this helps to push out any of the mucus-like fluid from the tiny eyelid glands.
Use a cotton bud to gently clean the edge of the lower lid to remove any crusts.
Pull the top lid away from the eyeball, while looking in a mirror and clean gently.A few drops of baby shampoo in a half a cup of water makes a good cleaning solution but always squeeze out the cotton bud before use and wipe the eyes with clean water afterwards.
When the symptoms have gone, keep doing this routine once a day, every day, to prevent further flare-ups.
Try the above before resorting to anyibiotics.
Question: How long will it take Oxytetracycline tablets to leave my system?
Answer: It will take approx. 72 hours for the drug remaining in your system to be deemed insignificant.
Question: How often do I repeat treatment with oxytetracycline HCl for finrot in guppies?
Answer: How many mg are you treating with in how much water? Or are you mixing into food?
Usually every 12-20 hours depending on how sever it is and the amount you are dosing. You really should start to see improvement within that time.
Question: Can i take the dianette contraceptive pill as well as oxytetracycline anti-biotics? I know that the pill wont work if i'm taking anti-biotics as well. But i would be taking them both for spots. Will it work or will it harm me?
Answer: There is no specific drug interaction between Tetracycline antibiotics and Dianette. It won't harm taking them together.
Although Dianette works as an effective contraceptive, In the UK Dianette does not have a licence as contraceptive due to the unacceptable DVT risk. Dianette has a much higher risk of DVT than other contraceptive pills. With other contraceptive pills the DVT risk is about 25/100,000/year. With Dianette it is about 50/100,000/year- the same DVT risk in pregnancy. In the UK Dianette is only prescribed to help with severe acne and hirsutism in women.
Many GPs are reluctant to prescribe Dianette and the favoured contraceptive choice for acne management is now Yasmin. Unfortunately some Drs fail to explain the risks of Dianette to patients before prescribing- I trust your GP has already explained the risks to you so you are aware?
The prescribing Physician must explain Dianette's risks to the patient and the patients' agreement must be noted on their medical file.
Of all the tetracycline antibiotics, Oxytetracyline is the oldest and least effective, the better ones are either Lemmecycline or Minnocycline used in conjunction with topical Panoxyl.
Question: I've been on oxytetracycline for a year and have started taking the pill will they both be as effectiv? I started taking the pill on friday, will it be working and have the right effect in one weeks time?
Answer: No. Even if you weren't on the oxytetracycline, one weeks time is not enough time for the pill to be maximally effective. It takes one complete cycle for the pill to reach maximum effectiveness. I have seen studies that say there is no effect on the pill and studies showing a reduced effectiveness of the pill. The pill still will work, but not to its full potential. I recommend an additional form of contraception (a condom) just to be safe.
