Prilocaine
Question: How effective is a lidocaine/prilocaine topical anesthetic for tattooing? I've found some information on it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lidocaine/prilocaine
not sure how effective it is. Has anyone tried it?
Answer: Well, when i was getting my first tattoo the guy rubbed something on it after he outlined it and i didnt feel a thing after that. I'm not sure if thats what your talking about though, and I COULD TAKE THE PAIN. I didnt even ask for it I'm not too sure why he put it on though...
Question: what would happen if  Lidocaine/prilocaine eutectic mixture was consumed orally? My Son some how found this tube and bit into it. I had no idea what was wrong when he came to me and started throwing up! After a while it came to light that he had chewed on this and must have consumed some. All the time during my son being sick I thought "that White stuff looks a bit too creamy to be food...". He seems ok after being sick and even had some bakebeans.
Answer: Depends on how much he consumed just keep an eye on him and if he looks like he is getting sick then i would take him to the doctors.
Question: Can lidocaine w/prilocaine-topical cream be used in area of pain? If so how much can be used to numb an area for 30 min. or longer? The area I am takling about is the chin area. Are there any concerns one should take into account when used? Where may I buy it? Thanks
Answer: yes, but it will only minimize the pain in the localized area, ie. the skin where you put it only. for deeper pain relief, use iboprufen instead. i used to be a dental assistant in the navy, and that's what we always gave people. it'll take care of any type of pain.
Question: can prilocaine be used in your back for tattoo? prilocaine is a dental anesthetic so im just wondering can it be injected into any other body part
Answer: there is a topical cream which you could use, it'd be less painful than a needle and tattoos dont hurt as bad as you might think so you wouldnt really need much if any at all.
Question: will prilocaine cause a false positive on a drug test?
Answer: Very likely it won't. But if you have dental work performed where the dentist used prilocaine/lidocaine to numb your tooth, then you would be able to demonstrate that you did indeed have a legitimate exposure to the drug, and that would excuse you in the very unlikely event that you failed a drug test. MOST drug tests are specific enough to differentiate between Lidocaine and Cocaine.
Question: Can Topical Lidocaine & Prilocaine Help Sunburn? Well, title says most, but I got burned pretty bad, and I'm not sure if it will blister or not.. I have some sunburn relief stuff, and it has lidocaine & aloe vera, BUT I don't have it with me, I'm away from home. I found some other stuff here, and it's Lidocaine & Prilocaine, can it help me? (I mean can it help the pain, not the blistering?)
Answer: Lidocaine is a topical anesthetic that will reduce the pain. Take an advil or aspirin, too.
Question: What type of topical painkiller is best for electrolysis? I am using the lidocaine/prilocaine cream and it is not doing its job that well. I still feel a lot of pain and discomfort during electrolysis (bikini area). I heard EMLA cream is good, but that seems to also be lidocaine/prilocaine based.
Does anyone have any experience with electrolysis and what have you found to be the best painkiller for this particular procedure?
Thanks in advance.
Answer: Lidocaine also comes in a gel form that could be an option. I would recommend calling the place where you get the electrolysis done to see what else they suggest as far as trying to numben the areas being treated.
Question: None of the medications in the "Caine" groups work on me. How can I get this through to the doctors? Lidocaine,Prilocaine,Articaine,Ect. doesn't work on me. I have had major surgery and felt everything, pain and all. The Doctors DO NOT beleive me and continue to shoot me up with this stuff and go ahead and operate! How can I get the Doctors to stop giving me these medications that do NOT work and give me something that DOES work??
I have talked to the Anesthesiologist every time also and it's also in my Medical records, but they still tell me that they will make sure that I don't feel anything. They said alot of people have this problem. My Mother and my son also have this problem. I've had teeth pulled,Biopsies, Cardic Cathiterizations, stiches,MRSA operations,Cateract surgeries,Cervical Polyps Removed and felt it all.
Answer: two issues here:
1. Why do they not believe you:
That is because they have never seen anyone who actually has this situation. They have had many people who SAID that this was the situation, but when they actually tried things, they worked, at least to some degree.
2. Why not use an alternative:
There are none.
Given these two thing, you can see why they would not be listening to you.
Question: What can I use to numb my arm before getting poked with needles for dialysis? I AM ON DIALYSIS AND I GET POKED WITH 15GAGE NEEDLES. I USE A LIDOCAINE-PRILOCAINE CREAM THAT WORKS OK. HOWEVER I WAS WONDERING DOES ANY BODY KNOW OF ANY OTHER PRODUCT TO USE?
Answer: I was going to suggest the lidocaine cream but you are using it. I would ask for a stronger lidocaine cream- a prescription from your Dr. It comes in different strengths. Maybe you need a stronger one. also- make sure you put a lot of it on, cover it with a big adhesive bandage or large band aid. apply it at least one hour before you get the needles.
I know this because I went through 2 IVF's and had to give myself needles and then afterwards had to give myself progesterone in oil shots and they had pretty big needles. I didn't feel athing using the method I just described!
Question: Use of EMLA cream (lidocaine and prilocaine) for IV insertion during labour? Heyyy guys...
I'm 29 weeks pregnant and though I still have some time to go, the thing which is giving me constant nightmares is "IV insertion" during labour....
I'm a HUGE needle phobic and though I have kind of coped well with all the blood tests, I'm still deadly scared of IV and having nightmares of it.... I am not scared of labour and contractions as much as I'm scared of IVs, and I know I will have IV for sure since its a policy at Credit Valley hospital where I have registered, and also because I will be taking epidural and IV insertion is a requirement for that.
I have researched extensively on EMLA cream which is a topical anasthetic to reduce pain of IV insertion. However I want to hear from you guys if anyone of you has personally used it, or someone you know has used it.... how was the experience, does it work? Is it allowed to be used during labour?
Also if you have had IV inserted before, on a scale of 1-10, how bad would you rate the pain? going in and out? 10 being veryyyyyyy painful!
Please let me know, it will somewhat put my mind to rest..... I REALLY appreciate it!
Thanks =)
Answer: I've had more IVs then I could ever remember or count. Personally with the labor pains kicking in I doubt you'' even care when they put the IV in, or hurry them to do it so the pain medication can get started. I'm needle phobic also but to be 100% honest this really isn't a big deal. On the pain scale I'd give it a two at the most. I would make sure to try and not be dehydrated, staying hydrated will keep your veins nice and plump and much easier to get into. It sounds like you've never had one before, how you've managed this long I have no idea! Once you go through this whole ordeal you'll be a pro and not easily scared in the future. (especially labor) The cream won't cause any harm but you don't really need it. If it will make you feel better personally then go ahead and ask for it. Good luck and may your baby be healthy and your labor be short and easy.
Question: using numbing cream when i gauge my ears? i'm a wimp lol. i'm going from 8g-6g. i have lidocaine and prilocaine cream (numbing cream) and was wondering if it's okay to use that.
i tried putting it in without and it didn't work out too well. i've only had my 8's in for a week and i know i should wait longer but i am very impatient:/.
seeing as this is a pretty permanent thing, i'm not in it for the fad. i figure i'll have them for sure for at least 5 or 6 years, 'til i get out of college or so.
Answer: Honestly, wait.
If your in it for the fad then thats dumb.
But if your in it for the long haul, wait.
Youll regret rushing it.
I ripped mine at 00, and now i have a butthole in my ear lobe.
The numbing creams arent worth it, they wear off eventually, it just makes it messy.
Question: Can Emla be used prior to anal sex? I was wonderinf if Emla Cream, which is a combination of Lidocaine/prilocaine (anesthetic sunsbtances) can be used in the anus prior to sexual activity, in order to diminish the pain.
Has anybody ever used it?
Answer: Dont use Emla Cream.. That just makes it numb. And putting it near or by your butt could cause problems.. I would either stop having anal sex or just use lube so it wont hurt as badly after your sexual experience.
-C.J.
Question: will a doctor prescribe this to me? so im getting my 2nd tattoo the 1st 1 i used emla cream (bought off ebay, no longer available)which ive misplaced it some how. if i call my doctor and tell them im getting a tattoo and ask for emla cream what are the chances of actually getting it? emla cream is a dermal pain relieve cream 2.5% lidocaine and 2.5% prilocaine for those of you whove never heard of it.
Answer: The doctor probably would not prescribe it without seeing you.
Question: numbing the area for anal sex? i went to a sex store and bought a numbing spray which has lidocaine in it to numb the area. my friend who goes to reveal for laser hair removal gets prescribed lidocaine and prilocaine cream 2.5%. she gave me a tube so that i can try it with anal but i'm not sure if it will be safe?
Answer: Anal sex in general is not safe especially if you go back and forth between your vagina and your anus....If you can't handle the pain just don't do it..it's not worth it. With this said, if you really want to do it why not just use the numbing spray along with some lube and anal beads
Question: Penis Spray May Block Premature Ejaculation? have you heard of it? An anesthetic spray more than doubles the "lasting" time for men with premature ejaculation, according to a study by the company that makes the experimental spray.
The metered-dose, aerosol spray is a mixture of the anesthetics lidocaine and prilocaine. It is spritzed onto the tip of the penis 15 minutes before sex.
Before using the spray, the 54 heterosexual men in the study ejaculated, on average, one minute after vaginal penetration.
In the test, on four occasions, half the men used the anesthetic spray 15 minutes before sex, the other half a placebo with no active ingredients.
The men or their partners used a stopwatch to measure the time from vaginal penetration to ejaculation.
The results:
--Lasting time increased to two minutes or more for 55 percent of the men who got the spray and 35 percent of the men who got the placebo.
--Lasting time increased to three minutes or more for 40 percent of the men who got the spray and 13 percent of the men who got the placebo.
--Lasting time increased to four minutes or more for 20 percent of the men who got the spray and 13 percent of the men who got the placebo.
--On average, men who got the spray lasted 2.4 times longer than those who got the placebo.
Premature ejaculation isn't defined by a specific time until ejaculation. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV (DSM-IV), premature ejaculation is "persistent or recurrent ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation before, on, or shortly after penetration and before the person wishes it."
About 70 percent of men who used the spray and just under 50 percent of the men who used the placebo said they had longer time to ejaculation.
About 60 percent of the female partners of men who used the spray, and about 30 percent of the partners of the men who used the placebo, said the men had better control over their ejaculation.
The spray is called TEMPE -- topical eutectic mixture for premature ejaculation -- by manufacturer Plethora Solutions Ltd. London, which funded the study. It is not yet available on the market.
"TEMPE 'as required' has the potential to offer a convenient, novel treatment option for men with premature ejaculation," conclude researchers Wallace C. Dinsmore, MD, of Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, Northern Ireland, and colleagues.
The spray had few side effects.
Four of the 26 men who used TEMPE did report side effects. Three had numbness of the penis, and one reported erectile dysfunction.
Only one of the men's sex partners reported a side effect: a mild burning sensation during intercourse.
Emla, from AstraZeneca, is also a mixture of lidocaine and prilocaine. It comes in a cream formulation and must be used with a condom. TEMPE does not require condom use.
The study appears in the February issue of the urology journal BJU International.
Answer: Yeah, but the second round, especially if you are using a condom will be nearly impossible to finish.
Question: Allergy to Caine/Grave's Disease - Need Help Please? I need to have a root canal done but my physicians are causing me to worry. I have Grave's Disease and an allergy to "caine" drugs. In the past, I have used Citanest (Prilocaine) with no trouble. I have a new medical insurance that is horrible and they are saying that I should not have the procedure unless it is a medical emergency. If so, they are saying not to use a local with epinephrine (could cause Thyroid Storm/Death). The infections that are ongoing from the need for dental work is ridiculous - 7 rounds of antibotics and the pain is exquisite. My questions are this:
1. What local anaestics do not contain epinephrine that are not Lidocaine/Procaine?
2. What are the risks if I do not have the root canal done?
3. Is there any other helpful advice that you can share?
Thank you in advance for answering. I appreciate the advice. If you need any further information, please e-mail through answers. Thanks again.
Answer: The grave's disease could be from a deficiency in iodine, causing the goiter. The Thyroid gland needs iodine and the amino acid tyrosine to produce hormones. If you are deficient in either of these, many problems can happen in the body and the thryoid is one of them.
Your allergies could be from nutritional deficiencies as well. The antibiotics are very destructive to the body. If you do not have the nutrients your body needs to create a good immune system, the antibiotics will not work well at all. Antibiotics do no killing of germs, but cause the body to produce more macrophages from particular kinds of white cells in your body. If you are deficient, it's like beating a tired horse to make him walk faster, it's just not going to happen if he's really tired.
Bad teeth are another sign of being very deficient.
If you use fluoride toothpaste, drink fluoridated water, bathe without a shower filter, drink sodas and domestic beer, you are getting enough fluoride to make you iodine deficient. I would check yourself to see if this is the case. It's simple to do. Purchase a small bottle of "tincture of iodine" and rub a patch 2" x 3" on your forearm or on your chest. Note the time of day. You should be able to see the patch after 24 hours. If it goes away in a few hours, you are very deficient.
To help your body get rid of the deficiencies like this, you will need to take about 5 - 6 months of taking iodine supplements to correct the problem. Once you have done this, you may find you will have a more healthy thyroid.
Just so you know, when they put fluoride in the drinking water, many children develop goiters as well as adults. This is a very bad practice that is being done to water supplies.
In regard to your allergies, that can come from many places. Without knowing more about your diet, specific deficiencies, it is difficult to predict what is causing that. I suggest, if you can, locate a Certified Nutritional Therapist to test you and find out what you are deficient in and recommend a diet for you.
Additionally, infections in the mouth can be insidious and cause many problems with various organs in the body because there are neural links from the teeth to body organs. You need to address that issue as well, but usually these types of infections are from a huge mineral deficiency in the body. The American diet is not going to solve that issue for you.
good luck
Question: Vaginal itching & burning PLEASE HELP? Ok so i had a baby boy about 5 months ago, i had a lot of yeast infections during the pregnancy, although i think i had it before i got pregnant with my baby's dad. My OBGYN gave me creams and medication while i was pregnant, and they did not work. Right now at this moment i am having really bad itching, its so severe I'm fixing to cry. I went to the doctors a couple days ago, and they swabbed the inside of my vagina for the discharge, and she said everything looked normal and did not have a foul oder, but my discharge did have a foul oder to me... I am on my period at this moment, and I am having severe itching, along with burning, The doctor did give me medicine, to treat yeast and bacteria infection... She gave me the pill that was a one time pill... Then put me on metronidazol 500mg (flagyl) but the itching is getting worse and worse i even tried putting lidocaine and prilocaine cream 2.5% on me and when i did it burned really bad... Monistat i think im allergic... and vagisal will burn really bad so please help i've been having unprotected sex with my partner lately, and it also burned during sexual intercourse. PLEASE HELP ME!!! Or im going to go to the hospital.. =(
I also have redness.
& it becomes swollen to.
Answer: If you have a yeast and bacterial infection then your partner has it also. You need to go to the doctor with your boyfriend and get a prescription of metronidazol for him also. You also need to stop having sex with your partner for at least 2 weeks to allow the antibiotics time to work. If your partner does not get treated for both issues you will keep getting infections. Also, if you and your partner are not monogamous, then you may want to be tested for STD's.
Question: Methahemoglobinemia & Dental Work? A few years ago I had to go into the hospital for emergency surgery. After the surgery, I was given a substance called Hurricane Spray to help deal with a sore throat caused by a tube running down my nose.
After an hour or so of using the Hurricane Spray my lips and fingernails started turning blue. My oxygen stats were also plummeting fast. To make a long story short, I ended up spending the night in the ICU where I was eventually diagnosed with Methahemoglobinemia (where there is not enough hemoglobin to carry oxygen to the body). My ER doctors said that this reaction was likely caused by the benzocaine found in the Hurricane Spray. They handed us a list of other things that could cause Methahemoglobinemia and "caine" medications were present on that list.
The problem is, I'm now looking at having dental work done. Obviously, dentists use things such as novocaine, benzocaine, prilocaine, ect. as a local anestetic during procedures. What can I do? Is there any safe "caine" I can have?
I really don't want to go under general anestesia for something as simple as a cavity filling.
Answer: Tell the dentist. There is suitable alternatives.
Question: Why numing creams dosnt work on me ? nummbing the skin? the doctor ask me to buy a small tube bottle called EMLA 5%cream... the stuff you get to numb the skin before they inject you.
I try this on the pain skin effected area and even though this cream is numbing.... how come it dosnt feel my skin becomes numbing at all ?
It just a white cream just rub it on the effected area.. can be use if you cut yourself or hurt yourself and want the pain to go away and numb the effected area.... well this cream dosnt feel nimming so not sure why.... just a cream dosnt do anything
Should it suppose to numb the skin at all? course i touch the effected area with my finger and i can feel the skin and it dosnt feel its numbing at all.
I dont no why. I try ather creams you can buy at the chemist that does that and nothing seems to numb my skin. I had the feeling it was suppose to numb the area where the cream is apply to the skin and numb the skin for 1 hour or a few minutes... Seriously i can still feel the skin.
So how come these things dont work ?
It says
Lignocaine 25mg/g
Prilocaine 25mg/g
5% cream
EMLA
Aniways i will give you full rating for best full reply. goodluck
PLEASE DO NOT GO OFF TOPIC AND DO NOT SPAMM AND NO WEBSITE LINKS. will report u instantly.
was wanting to experience what it would be like to hasve a strong cream to put it on the low belt where the sossage is and then try to rub it and not feel a thing. no pain and no gain.
Answer: Topical cream, with lidocaine, isn't going to completely numb you. If you're expecting to completely anesthetize the area, it's not going to happen. The cream is only intended to take the edge off. The topical application also takes a while to work. 30 minutes usually. You can talk with your doctor about a stronger medication, but you'll probably never get 100% numbing with any topical application.
In rare cases, a person my not be sensitive to the lidocaine. Mostly, the problem is a person with a low pain threshold who anticipate pain.
Question: Numbing Cream for BOxers? There is a possible act that numbing cream are used by some boxers around the world. I want to use this page to make them realize that putting a numbing cream on their fist not a good strategy for winning, it might ruin their careers on boxing. The way they do it is like putting this numbing just 30-45 minutes before their respective fights in the ring, their fist numb because of the active agent of a numbing cream (lidocaine, benzocaine, prilocaine, etc) that make their fists numb one thing a boxer will do is to power punch everything he can to his opponent. My question is how can we use this numbing cream properly? what content that makes the cream dangerous for the most boxers? Is there any chance that it can affect the mentality of the boxers? till here for now hoping for your answers. :)
Answer: As it should be, products like these numbing creams do have product specifications to indicate how, where, when, and when is the product not supposed to be used. Well in this case, obviously, the usage of the numbing cream seems not suitable for that ill purpose of cheating. Another thing is, i don't think numbing creams are being used for boxing... ha ha.. lol! Never heard of that before. The downside most especially is that the tendency for the boxer of punching harder and harder would be intensified thus this might cause him to neglect the effect or the damages this may cause to his fist when the numbing effect had lasted. As to the content of the numbing cream, I don;t think this have effect on the boxers health, Lidocaine is safe with correct percentage as to like that of one brand of numbing cream I knew which is Dr Numb. I hope I had helped you on your queries.
