Question: Is Sodium Sufacetamide a neurotoxin? Hello,
I used generic Plexion perscription cleanser last night to wash my face which is sodium sulfacetamide 10% and sulfur 5%. It makes my face wreak of Sulfur and even though I rinse it off really well It seem to smell of it for a long time and I think a little drifts into my mouth and leaves a weird taste. Could this cleanser be toxic and disrupt my brain function?
Weird question sorry!
Any information would be appreciated
Thanks :)
Answer: no,its not a neurotoxin, its used as an antibiotic.
google the side effects:it may dry your skin out,so you may stop using it for a while.
Question: Is it okay to do microdermabrasion when using rosula daily? I use prescribed Rosula topical medication for acne twice a day, everyday. Rosula is a sodium sulfacetamide-sulfur drug.
I want to try professional microdermabrasion to touch up my skin and help with some scars from before. Is it safe or okay to get microdermabrasion while using this medication?
Answer: Microdermabrasion is never a good idea if you have active acne. It abrades your skin, and causes the bacteria to spread to other places, where you have causes micro sized cuts in your skin. If you have a question about the prescription, ask your pharmacist or the doctor who wrote it.
Question: Can I keep using my facewash prescription? I use Sodium Sulfacetamide 10% and Sulfur 5% Wash that was prescribed to me for acne. It is pregnancy catogory C. should i stop using them or is it OK?
Answer: You need to discuss it with your doctor--only your doctor can tell you how it will react with your pregnancy.
Good luck!
Question: How many drop of this Medicine for pink eye do I use? its sulfacetamide sodium ophthaimic Solution. I had pink eye like two months ago and the doctor gave me these eye drops. Well I just recently got pink eye again now in both eyes. And I lost the directions on how many to put in my eyes a day. I Is it twice a day two drops. Or once a day two drops?
Answer: Once opened ophthalmic preparations must be discarded after 28 days so you must see your doctor again, the diagnosis also needs confirmed.
Question: Should I see a doctor for this eye issue? 3 months ago I was on antibiotic pills and I was also on drops called Sulfacetamide Sodium for what seemed to be an infection in the left eye only. Today I noticed on the inside of my lower lid that it is very red and there is also a faint white lump forming just like last time. I don't believe it ever went away and it was just dormant. I think I'm going to see a doctor soon before it gets out of control. However, is there anything I can do in the mean time to reduce the onset of swelling?
Answer: Sounds like you have a staff infection (or sty in your eye) and it should be treated with anitbiotics. Another way to treat it is to put a warm compress (wash cloth with warm water) on the eye for about 15 minutes twice per day. If you are experiencing any pain in the eye, take Tylenol or Motrin.
Warning: When the sty does pop and puss is expelled, do not rub with your hands, but use a sterile piece of bandage to wipe it off and then be sure to wash your hands thoroughly, so to not accidently spread to the other eye. Staff infections are very easily transmitted.
Question: how long does it take for eye antibotic drops to work? i went to the doctor today with a eye infection, its not pink eye cause its just really red with no pain. i was perscribed bausch & Lomb sulfacetamide sodium opthalmic solution 10%. i have been using them for almost 8 hours and i havnt seem any improvement. has anyone used these drops before or have any idea how long it will be before i will see results. i just began my vaction yesterday and i dont want to go out with a bright red eye...i been hiding behind my sunglasses!
Answer: There are a few things I would like to address. First, the drug you have been prescribed is BACTERIOSTATIC rather than BACTERIOCIDAL. That means the antibiotic does not actually KILL the bacteria causing your infection. Rather, it inhibits its reproduction and keeps the bacterial load stable in your eye. Then with time your body's own defenses can kill the bacteria. I would much rather see you on an antibiotic like Zymar or Vigamox. Or maybe something like Ciloxan. These aggressively KILL the bacteria. You will notice much more rapid improvement and also it is much less likely that we will breed resisitant forms of bacteria by not aggressively killing all the bacteria rapidly. I would say there is a very good possibility you were prescribed this drug by a general medical doctor with no training in eye care. It is probably the most commonly prescribed by this group of practitioners. Next time you have an eye infection go to an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. They are much better trained at diagnosing and treating eye infections.
Second, antibiotics should be used consistently for 8 to 10 days to assure that the infection is resolved and decrease the risk of a regrowth of bacteria should not all the bacteria be killed. This again goes back to one of the reasons you should be using a bacteriocidal rather than bacteriostatic antibiotic.
Third, if you indeed did NOT go to an eye care professional there is a good possibility that you do not have a bacterial infection but rather a VIRAL infection. General medical physicians are not equipped nor are they educated to make a differential diagnosis between the two types of infections. They tend to use an antibiotic on every red eye because they know that if it is VIRAL in nature the virus will run its course in about 1 to 2 weeks and the patient will get better no matter what they do. Studies have shown that the great majority of eye infections are actually VIRAL in nature. Antibiotics, therefore, will be of NO benefit whatsoever.
So having said all this, give it a couple of days. If you are seeing NO improvement go see an EYE doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Hope this helped.

Question: Allergic to Bactrim, but prescribed something close? Im allergic to Bactrim and told my dermatologist this. She prescribed Sulfacetamide Sodium Suspension for my face. It says not to use if allergic to Bactrim but since she knows this and Im not ingesting it I should just kind of look for any signs of a reaction right? Im just confused on why she would prescribe it knowing my allergy.
Answer: Yikes, I don't know but I don't like it. There HAS to be a better choice.
Question: Anyone have any info on the acne prescription, 'tazorac' or sodium sulfacetamide ? I started using both a week ago prescribed from my derm. i peel like a ***** and i'm kind of breaking out more? is it normal? did it work for anyone ? any help would be appreciated
Answer: tazorac worked for me but with the help of accutane. Which is the last resort medication for acne. I highly recommend it. Dont let the scary side effects trick you into not using it. Accutane is a miracle drug. It gets rid of your acne within months never to return.

Question: My acne medicine is drying out my skin? I know, your answer is either "don't use it as often" or "ask your dermatologist". But the thing is, my face is so dry that it's kinda peeling. I don't want to show up to school tomorrow with my face like this. Should I put moisturizer on, or will that dry it out more?
I have been using sodium sulfacetamide (for the night time) and Epiduo (for the morning).
Answer: Here is the thing. Prescription acne meds are super harsh and your face is going to continue to look like that as long as you use it. I would wash off what you have put on tonight with a gentle cleanser then put a good moisturizer on and do the same in the morning. It may look a little better by morning but it will probably still be red and flakey. Those products damage your skins barriar and you basically just have to wait for you skin to heal. If you would like some suggestions on some great acne treatments that are gentle and will not do this to your skin feel free to email me. Hope this helps and sorry that this has happend to you.
Question: what will help me get rid of scars? if i have a very big acne scar on my cheek, will sodium sulfacetamide help it? should i put it on..
also, should i use sodium sulfacetamide on white heads and black heads...will it help..
also, will differin help get rid of scars??
Answer: -Maderma Scar treatment for store products.
you can try these:
-Squeeze the juice out of fresh lemons or limes apply with cotton ball.
- Mix sandalwood with a few drops of rosewater to make a paste. apply as facial mask.
- Slice up a tomato and place it over your face.
-Massage olive oil on the scarred skin.
- Honey is another natural moisturizer that can help in treating acne scars.
You can also get them removed at a clinic with a "chemical skin peel" it peels of the top layer of your skin to improve your skin in almost every way.
All scars eventually fade and adjust to your skins shade. if they are recent i think you should wait and let them get "older" first.
Question: Any experience with acne and Yaz? I have moderate acne that just started maybe 7 months ago. I never had problems before that. I'm currently on Sulfacetamide sodium, Epiduo, and Doryx to control it. They have done nothing so far. I've been on them for about a month now. Does birth control work? Preferably Yaz?
Thanks in advance :]
Answer: I am currently prescribed Yaz for my moderate acne problem. Before I was on the Pill for acne I was using a prescription strength gel. It took me almost a month for any results with the gel, and even then it didn't help clear up my acne. I originally went on the Pill for my overly frequent periods, but my doctor also prescribed it for my acne. Now, I only have about 3 - 5 pimples right before my period. Other than that, I don't have any acne at all. If you're looking for a birth control to help with your moderate acne, then Yaz is definately one to consider.
Question: Would you recommend the New Proactiv? Okay so my sisters bought the new Procativ (WHICH IS TINY).... And on the same day I went to a dermatoligst and they gave me Sodium Sulfacetamide and Epiduo. Are they any good? Which should be better?
I have acne on my cheeks, chin, forehead, and nose. Im only 13 and my skin gets dry frequently and I have oily skin in my T zone. (inbetween eyebrows and down nose)
WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?
Answer: The older Proactiv was good for ultra oily skin, me and my friends who had combo or dry skin had alot of problems with it.
The dermatologist has looked at your skin and maybe even did tests. He knows skin and knows what YOUR skin needs. Proactiv doesnt. So use what the dermatologist gave you.
Question: Question about retin-a acne prescription? I went to a dermatologist yesterday and I got a prescription for tretinoin and sodium sulfacetamide wash. The wash I use in the am and tretinoin in the pm. The dr said to use a pea sized amount but do I cover my whole face with it or just the acne affected areas? And do I use it before or after I put my after shave lotion on? Because I usually shave at night ( I might switch to morning) and idk when to put it on so thanks in advance for answers!
Answer: Use it on your entire face for prevention as well as treating the breakouts you have. Use it before your aftershave-- you always moisturize after cleansing.
Question: Any Good Moderate Acne Solutions? I went to a dermatologist about a month and a half ago. She said my face would clear up in about a month, and i've had absolutely no improvement. She put me on Epiduo, Sulfacetamide sodium, and Doryx. None of which work for me...
...Does anybody have any suggestions on what works for your moderate-severe acne (Besides Accutane...I refuse to put myself through that..)?
Thanks in advance!
Answer: I just started using Mary Kay's 3-in-1 face cleanser for oily skin. After that, I use their toner. I top it off with Neutrogena's Acne Stress Control - 3 in 1 Hydrating Acne Treatment. I use the Neutrogena every night and I think it helps. I really love the Mary Kay products too - my whole family tells me they can see a difference. It's a little pricey, but I think it's all been worth it. The cleanser is $18 but you don't need more than a pea-sized amount and the toner is something like $10-$12 and the Neutrogena was around $6. Hope this helps!!
Question: Can these two medicines be used concurrently to treat a finiky fantail? We have a very finiky calico fantail. He's had a couple red streaks in his tail fins for a while now but lately it got a lot worse. He spent 2 days at the bottom of the tank not moving, and then 2 at the top not moving, and now he's floating sideways. I guessed he has gas, and tried feeding him peas, but he refuses to eat them. I added aquarium salt and stress-relief bacteria, but he wasn't getting any better. I started a treatment of API triple sulfa, which uses 664mg SODIUM SULFAMETHAZINE and 168mg SODIUM SULFACETAMIDE per packet.
2 days into the treatment and it seems he's developed pop-eye, which is not on the list of illnesses the triple sulfa treats. I purchased Mardel Maracyn-Two, which uses 10mg Minocycline per packet.
Can these 2 medicines be used at the same time or will I Overdose my fish?
How long will it take for the gas to go away since he's not eating his peas?
Does pop-eye kill fish or will it go away with time?
tank water #s are all good.
Answer: Yes, you can use those medications concurrently (together). The most important aspect of treating your goldfish is to ensure good water quality. Your fantail should be in nothing smaller than a 20 gallon tank with a filter that will churn 100 gallons of water per hour (for a single fantail/fancy goldfish). Each additional fancy goldfish necessitates increasing the tank capacity for each extra fancy goldfish by 10 gallons. Two fancy goldfish need a minimum 30 gallon tank for example. The filter capacity also needs to be increased as additional goldfish are added. A good "rule of thumb" for goldfish filtration is to use a good filter that will handle at least double the size of a proper tank. Also, only goldfish of similar body type should be kept with goldfish (no comets, commons or shubinkin with fancies for instance). NEVER keep fish other than goldfish with goldfish.
Question: Is it ok to use a prescription topical medicine in addition to Proactiv? I have a topical medicine that was prescribed to me by my dermatologist for use every night before bed. What I've been doing is using the prescription stuff at night and applying the Proactiv in the morning. I was wondering if, because the directions for Proactiv suggest that it should be used twice a day, it would be ok to apply both the Proactiv and the prescription topical medicine at night.
The active ingredient in the prescription topical medicine is 10% Sodium Sulfacetamide / 5% Sulfur. Would it be a bad idea to apply this immediately after applying the Proactiv (the active ingredient of which is benzoyl peroxide)?
Answer: I've been to the dermatologist and he says not to combine anything with proactive unless a professional tells you otherwise.
If something reacts it may leave burns and scaring on the face.
