Travatan
Question: What is a healthy alternative for Travatan eyedrops for Glaucoma? Travatan contains Hydrogenated Castor Oil. The liver cannot process hydrogenated fats and it is a suspected cancer-causing agent.
Answer: Glaucoma is a nutrition related disease where a lack of proper acid/alkaline balance leads to the optic nerve damage.
The herb, eyebright as a tea and eyedrops is well known to help with glaucoma.
You might mix your tea with ginkgo biloba as it is an effective way to increse oxygen in the bloodstream.
I would recommend cayenne as a daily supplement to increse circulation.
Carotenoid will help give your eyes releif.
Drink 6-8 glasses of distilled water with a pinch of unrefined sea salt each day.
Take 50 mg. of the bioflavinoid Rutin three times each day to relive pressure on the optic nerve..
Vitamin A is a vitamin that is well known to help improve eye health.
Have a salad with raw spinach each day to help alkalize your body and give your body the leutins it needs for eye health.
I would also take a magnesium and zinc sulfate supplement.
Iam taking many of these supplements for eyehealth but making your body more alkaline is central to all healing modalities. Eat less meat and more raw salads. Drink clean water and throw out your table salt and replace it with unrefined seasalt.

Question: What are the side effects of Travatan eye drops?
I already tried googling it and it gave me like headaches and stuff biut this is for my dad is tiredness one of themm ?????
Answer: The most common side effect of TRAVATAN® solution is red eyes, but patients may also experience decreased visual acuity, eye pain and blurred vision, as well as other effects.
If you experience any of these symptoms contact your doctor. Prostaglandins, such as TRAVATAN® solution, have been known to cause changes in eye color and eye lid skin color, as well as changes in eye lashes, which may be permanent.
SIDE EFFECTS: Blurred vision, eye redness/discomfort/itching, feeling as if something is in your eye, dry eyes, tearing, eyelid crusting, increase in eyelash number/length/thickness, darkening color of the eyelashes and eyelids, dizziness, or increased sensitivity to light may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. This medication may slowly (over months to years) cause brown discoloration of the colored portion of the eye (iris). If you are using travoprost in only one eye, only that iris may change color. This color change may be permanent but the long-term effects are uncertain. Notify your doctor if this occurs and schedule regular eye exams to monitor it.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: vision changes, eye pain, swelling/redness of the eyelids, mental/mood changes (e.g., anxiety, depression), chest pain, slow heartbeat. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Question: WHY DO YOUR EYE LASHES GROW AND THICKEN WITH THE USE OF TRAVATAN? WOULD TRAVATAN WORK ON BALD SPOTS?
Answer: Doctors aren't sure how it works but are researching it for bald spots. Lots of women love Travatan because of the lash growth.
Question: travatan eye drops for glaucoma when expired are they still good i didn't notice the expiration date please
Answer: Did you just get them recently? If so, return them to the pharmacy, they aren't supposed to sell stuff past or close to expiry date.
Question: so is travatan good for lowering your risks of glaucoma? My doctor assigned that to me is it good or should i use lumigan. ?I think its supposed to help you 4%....i need to find some sort of way to lower my risks i know this helps but only by a little do you guys know of any specialists that specialize in this who are in chicago? My chances are 30% in one eye and 20% in the other eye is that very bad?
Answer: Try a Yahoo search for coleus + glaucoma.
Coleus reduces the pressure in your eyes and this lowers your risk of getting glaucoma and if you already suffer from it then it slows down further deterioration.
Question: have you used travatan before? what is your experience with travatan?
Now that I look carefully, it is travatan Z. I missed the Z part because it looked like a logo and I didn't know there was a difference.
Answer: I haven't used Travatan personally, but I have many patients who are using it, either because I prescribed it or they were already using it when they came to see me.
Travatan is widely used and has been demonstrated to be effective at lowering eye pressure safely. Though more expensive than some older eye drops, it's once-daily dosing is very convenient. Though the drops are very well tolerated in most patients, the most common side effects are eye redness, longer eye lashes, and sometimes darkening of the iris (the colored ring in the front of the eye) with prolonged use.
I agree in part with the reviewer above. BAK does have effect on your tear film, but if the only BAK-containing drops you use are Travatan once a day, the effect would be minimal. However, if you currently use several different eye medications or are prone to dry eye symptoms, the Travatan Z might be more comfortable. Check with your pharmacist and your insurance plan to see if there are any local price differences in the two formulations and pick whichever you one you feel comfortable with.

Question: I have Glucoma, and using Travatan drops,? I have Glaucoma, also i am working on compute. Is this normal or should i leave my job? i have bad itching on my head and neck, bad abdominal pain, what i do? should i stop my eye drops or continue?
Answer: Do not stop using your eye drops. Glaucoma is a serious, chronic condition which can cause blindness. Under no circumstances should you stop using eye drops without medical direction.
Computer work shouldn't have an effect on your condition, since it does not raise intraocular pressure. If you feel that your eye drops are having side effects, you should see your doctor. There are many different varieties of treatments available.

Question: Travatan Eye Drops? I have been on these eye drops for about three years for high eye pressure. One eye in particular has a deep dark circle running under it. It's been there for about a year, but it almost looks like I've had a black eye! Is this discoloration around the eye a result from the drops?
Answer: yes it is probably from the travatan. this is a common side effect of prostaglandin analogs...
Question: Is it possible to use Cosopt to gether with Nyogel? I'm suffering from closed angle glaucoma and usin Travatan-Alphagan-and Cosopt. my doctor in egypt add to this Nyolol Gel. Is that right?
Answer: You need to ask the doctor again and the pharmacist. Never rely on the people in here to give you drug advice over your doctor's reccomendations. It is not a good idea. Ask your prescribing doctor again and see what they say.
Question: I there really no cure for glaucoma? I have been on travatan for 4 years now and my eyes feel miserable 24 7!!!! (and no I am not a marijuana smoker) any suggestions to help relieve my eye headaches(natural methods only!!)
Answer: The most common form of glaucoma treatment are eye drops that reduce pressure build up in the eye. These are specific to the type and severity of glaucoma and generally need to be taken regularly for best effect. Examples are Timoptic, Xalatan or Alphagan. Oral medication may also be prescribed in some cases. As with all prescription medication, special caution needs to be taken as many have potentially dangerous and bothersome side-effects.
Nature provides some very beneficial ingredients through herbal and homeopathic remedies to promote over-all eye health.
One such herb which is commonly used for eye health is Vaccinium Myrtillus (Bilberry) which strengthens eye capillaries, prevents eye-related disease and infections, and enhances the body’s natural visual capacity. Other herbal ingredients such as Aspalathus linearis (Rooibos) and Sutherlandia frutescens work as effective anti-oxidants and assist to maintain a healthy supply of blood, oxygen and essential nutrients to the eye.
These herbs therefore improve eye health, strengthen blood capillaries in the eye, counteract cell damage caused by free radicals, help the retina adapt to both dark and light, and prevent and treat glaucoma.

Question: Are there any harmful inter actions between the following drugs?,? ZTIA, LEXAPRO, PRAVASTATIN SOD, TIMIOLOL, TRAVATAN, REMINAL, CRESTOR, XALATAN, AZOPH, REMINYL.

Question: Correct technique for putting eye drops.? I have been prescribed Travatan drops to put in my right eye every night. Just one drop at night. Since I live alone I've got to do it myself but I find it difficult. I think I've got it lined up correctly but invariably miss the eye. I waste 2 or 3 drops before I get it right. Help!! any bright ideas?
Answer: Ideally, you should wash your hands, bend your head backward, hold the drops with one hand while pulling the lower lid down with the other hand and aim the drop into your eye. But if you can't do this since you're too old (bad aim:) )and alone, this is my suggestion, which we use in uncooperative children. Make sure your face is clean. Lie down on your bed. with the eyes closed, aim the drop at the corner of your eye and nose bridge. Once you feel the drop there, open your eye and the drop will flow inside your eye. You may need to blink several times until the whole drop is inside your eye. Good luck. We use this technique for children who don't want to open their eyes for the eyedrops.
Question: Eye Pressures/Contact Lenses? I am on Travatan drops for high eye pressures. Can I wear contact lenses or will I need to stick with glasses?
Answer: yes, you can wear contacts. prostaglandin analogs like travatan are once a day just before bedtime. so you'd wear contacts all day, remove the lenses and instill the eyedrops before bed. no biggie
Question: serious replies only please? I had a miscarriage last week. I was taking Travatan, eyedrops for glaucoma, for a year or so. I am 34 years old. I decided to double check with my eye doctor to make sure that taking eyedrops was okay (who would have thought it was bad?) After they called me back almost 3 days later, they advised NOT TO take this medication for the first 3 months.
I have done some research and found that this medication has been known to cause miscarriage. I had actually not taken the eyedrops for days but took it one day before my miscarriage (after which the doc called and said NOT TO TAKE IT).
This medication contains a prostaglandin (these hormones are used to induce labor).
What should I do? Is this something worth looking into?? Please help. I don't want to sue my doctor, but none of his patients are as young as me (he sees a ton of older patients, he's a specialist and mostly sees older folks).
thanks
since I am not the "norm" of patients he sees, he never told me about this side effect. I would think it should have been mentioned because of my age. It is NOT my responsibility to prescribe medication, (what idiot wrote that for a response, you are a total idiot) and WHO in their right mind would think that an EYEDROP would cause a miscarriage? It even says on the warnings not to take it even if you are TRYING to get pregnant. That does not happen very often.
when I called the doctor, they said they would get back to me ASAP. After THREE days, they called and said to stop it IMMEDIATELY.... SO in those 3 days, who's to say this didn't cause the miscarriage? it was early, 6 weeks, and happened 12 hours after my eye drop dose.
these drops contain prostaglandin which they use to INDUCE labor...
Answer: It doesn't hurt to contact an attorney to see if you even have a case. A similar thing happened to me (hospital procedures lacking and I get an infection; not as sad and heartbreaking as your miscarriage tho - I'm sorry you had to go thru that), and because the hospital didn't perform some specific tests, I couldn't "prove" anything.
Oh, and maybe bringing this to the forefront of the doctor's/hospital's attention, they will be more careful with their next patient. At the very least, you should file a complaint with the medical group/hospital/doctor's office. Good luck.
