Tretinoin Gel
Question: What is the difference between Tretinoin gel and Tretinoin Cream? I've been prescribed the Tretinoin .01 Gel. I heard there was also a Tretinoin Cream. What is the difference between these two.
Will Tretinoin .01% help me reduce some wrinkles too or does the solution have to be stronger?
Thanks and all your answers will be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Tretinoin cream is formulated with less alcohol than the gel, so it might be a little bit less drying.
(note on the above answer: Tretinoin is available as a plain gel AND as a microsphere gel. They're two distinct products.)
It might help you reduce some fine lines, but it won't do much for deep wrinkles. It's probably best to try a higher concentration (0.05%) if you're looking for wrinkle reduction.
(note on the following answer: dermatologists ARE MDs!)
Question: What is the super stiff stuff tretinoin gel leaves behind? I have been using tretinoin gel for about a week now. I see no improvements for my acne, and my cheeks just get redder and peels . But that is just the beginning effects, i hope. Anyways anyime i put on tretinoin it always leaves a really nasty tight substance on my face, so it feels hard to make any facial expressions. What is this stuff, what is the purpose, and how long until my acne clears up?
Answer: I don't know the answer, but I wanted to tell you that I just started using tretinoin as well and I have the same problem! So it is probably normal. Let's hope for our sakes it goes away soon!
Question: what is the most effective tretinoin gel? I have acne scars that NEED TO GO. What's the best and least expensive tretinoin gel I can get?
Answer: Retin-a Gel 0.01% 60g Gel is probably the cheapest. Just below $20.

Question: Can I use Prescription Tretinoin Gel (Vitamin A) to Prevent Fine Lines and Wrinkles? Prescription Tretinoin (vitamin A) gel/cream is used to treat acne and also fine lines/wrinkles. I have lots of it around because I used to have acne. Now I am 22, and acne free for a bit now. I still have lots of unexpired gel around, and more refills as well.
Can I use this now to help prevent aging?
Answer: Tretinoin is the active ingredient in many products which claim to prevent aging by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also used to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks by increasing collagen production.
As long as you don't experience any side effects from using the product, you may see some positive results. It is advised not to use wax hair removal products as Tretinoin can cause a reduction in the thickness of your skin. Waxing may then accidentally remove the outermost layer of skin which can cause much irritation.
Hope this helps!
Question: How effective is tretinoin gel on hyperpigmentation? I dont want to go as far as getting a tca peel cuz my hyperpigmetation is only from injuries and pimples. I've been using the 0.05% and 0.1% versions of tretinoin for a month, and everytime i peel my skin just recovers back to the way it was and i see no changes in my condition. exactly how should i treat it?
Answer: Unfortunately, the tretinoin will have no effect on your post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. In fact, neither will any of the quinolone products. Those products all work on the hyperpigmentation of melasma, but not that caused by previous injury. Conceivably, PDL laser treatment might help you. Talk to your local dermatologic laser surgeon to see if he feels he can help u.
Question: I'm 14, where can I buy Tretinoin gel, except from a pharmacy? I'm 14, where can I buy some Tretinoin gel for acne in the uk? My parents can't know, and I can't go to the doctors, and I need to go somewhere that will serve me.
Answer: You can't buy tretinoin without a prescription. You can buy retinoids at the drugstore though (they are less-strong versions of tretinoin). Look for the word retinol in the product title. Neutrogena makes a night cream that contains it.
Question: Can I use Prescription Tretinoin (Retin-A/Vitamin A) Gel to prevent Fine lines and Wrinkles? Prescription Tretinoin (vitamin A) gel/cream is used to treat acne and also fine lines/wrinkles. I have lots of it around because I used to have acne. Now I am 22, and acne free for a bit now. I still have lots of unexpired gel around, and more refills as well.
Can I use this now at my age to help prevent aging?
Answer: It is harsh treatment to prevent wrinkles. You can see a lot of info about it on an excellent site RealSelf.com. There are several online reviews from users who have used - but to remove or diminish wrinkles. No one has used it to prevent them. There is a risk that it can cause wrinkles or appear to cause them when used on some skins. Someone has posted a question about having that problem and several board certified dermatologists responded on line with the reasons that happened

is this suppose to happen?
it stops after like a minute but i was just wondering.

Question: What is tretinoin gel? What is tretinoin gel and what is it used for?
Answer: Tretinoin Gel is used for:
Treating acne. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Tretinoin Gel is a vitamin A derivative. How it exerts its beneficial effects against acne is not fully known. Tretinoin appears to increase skin-cell turnover and to reduce the tendency for skin cells to stick together. This reduces the formation of acne and allows quicker healing of acne that does develop.
Question: I've been using Tretinoin gel for 1 week now. I don't see a difference. How soon will it work? Does it work on fine lines? blackheads?
Answer: As with any medicine, it may take a few weeks for you to be able to tell a difference, and it may get a little worse before it gets better. I'm pretty sure it won't do anything for fine lines, and if it doesn't help with the blackheads, try using a facial scrub.
Question: does Tretinoin gel have any side affects? i have fordyce spots and i want to use Tretinoin gel but i wanna be safe
can anyone help
Answer: i dont think so ....but i m not sure .......
Question: Can I use Tretinoin (retin-a) gel to prevent future lines and wrinkles? I used retin-a for acne, and now I am 23 and acne free for a while. I still have gel, and more refills as well. Can I use it now at my age to prevent future lines and wrinkles??
Answer: S, using medication to prevent future lines/wrinkles is not wise. It can have side effects somewhere else on your body. So the risk is not worth it, especially since you don't have acne anymore. I think there are safer ways of dealing with this. This is what I use; Preve by Isabella Pelle. It's extreme anti aging lotion, and has the highest concentration of the best moisturizer known to date; hyaluronic acid. I'm 24 and this is what I've been using for the past 3 yrs.

Question: switching tretinoin gel to cream? (acne!! help)? I have been on tretinoin gel .025 for about 10 weeks and although my skin has gotten a little better, i still have acne. My doc switched me over to tretinoin .05 cream for a higher strength. However, i am worried that the switch is going to break me out even more, especially since its the cream now. I am going to college in 3 days and i dont know if its worth dealing with the initial breakout all over again.
Answer: Sometimes the alcohol in the gel can irritate the skin, the cream may be better, Give it a try.
Question: Retin-A Micro Tretinoin Gel .04%??? i just switched from Tretinoin CREAM .025% to Retin-A Micro Tretinoin GEL .04% and it seems like my acne is getting worse, not better.
Is there something wrong? or is this normal?
what is the difference between the creams and the gels?
i know that when u first start out using Retin-a, it is supposed to get worse before it gets better... but is it still supposed to get worse when u change to a gel from a cream and change to a STRONGER prescription??
b/c i have been using it for a week and a half and it has only been getting worse...
oh and also, I have been using Neutrogena SkinClearing Clean Tint during the day so that my acne is not as noticeable. supposedly ,it helps your acne as well as being a tinted concealer. do you think this is okay to be used with Retin-A?????
Answer: First I would recommend you to stop anything besides retin-a and then see how you do, secondly, it is possible that changing from one form to the other your symptoms gets worse, but typically you should improve as days go on, see your doctor if symtoms persist or worsen, good luck

Answer: well i was prescribed tretinoin gel about 6 weeks ago, and for the first two/three weeks, my skin was pretty bad, but it was not HORRIBLE. you can still cover up in makeup as well, people say full results start showing in like 8 weeks or so (that all depends though) . and im not sure if it a strong dosage, i was wondering that to because i have .25% as well. but everyone seems to say that its worth the wait =] so hope it works out for you!
Question: Retin-A Micro tretinoin gel 0.04%? Earlier this year and had a really bad sudden breakout. i went from perfect skin to disgusting skin. Now i got all my breakouts under control, havnt had a pimple in months, i just have scars. My dermatologist gave me samples of Retin-a Micro Tretinoin gel 0.04%. Is this going to make me break out? i have normal-oily skin (normal in morning then as the say goes on it gets oily). Anyone have/had the same problem? please give all information.
i also used differin for a few months but havnt seen results like i should and thats why she gave me retin-a. has anyone used differin then retin-a? how did it work for you compared to differin. please give all information.
Answer: when i was about 12 or 13 years old i used retin a micro in the summer and omg! my face burned burned badly! so never again will i use that. i also used differin and that did not work either. ive used many many more but why mention if its not your question. i have oily skin im not sure how it is in the mornings though but anyway... oh and i also have scaring from acne. i doubt if you havent broke out that you will break out using retin a micro. i dont know why you would think that?
i left all those creams behind that didnt do anything for me! i have cystic acne which is from deep inside. i tried not eating chocolate, fries, or anything with grease. i also tried taking teas and pills to go to the bathroom because ive heard that constipation causes brakes out and none of that worked! i got on accutane 2 years ago and it was glory!
Question: Can you buy Tretinoin gel at your local pharmacy? I've had Fordyce spots on my penis for as long as i can remember, but now I am 14, and they are getting a lot worse. Some of the bigger ones pop like pimples, but i don't want to get an infection. If i have to I'll ask my parents about it, or my brother, but from what I've read from all the websites is that Tretinoin Gel dramatically reduces the size and visibility of these spots. I'll go to the pharmacy myself and get it, i just don't want to look like a fool in the store.
Answer: You can, but it's by prescription.
If a doctor diagnosed the Fordyce, it shouldn't be a problem. If not, you'll need the diagnosis first.
Question: Question about Tretinoin Gel? Should Tretinoin be spreaded evenly throughout the whole face or only on the affected area.
Do you think this solution will even out my skintone and make my skin smoother because I have really uneven skintone.
Thanks and all your answers will greatly be appreciated.
Answer: tretinoin can peel off the unwanted skin layers to reveal a fresher even lighter skin tone.. like skin lighteners, if the affected area is just a small spot, apply only on affected area.. otherwise if it's distributed all over, use on whole face.
