Vitamins Prenatal With Zinc
Question: Is it safe to take a Prenatal vitamin along with a B12 vitamin and Cranberry supplement everyday? The Prenatal vitamin brand is Spring Valley. It has:
Vitamin A - 4000 I.U
Vit. C - 120 mg
Vit. D - 400 I.U
Vit. E - 30 I.U
Thiamin (Vit. B1) - 1.8 mg
Riboflavin (Vit. B12) - 1.7 mg
Niacin - 20 mg
Vit. B6 - 2.6 mg
Folic Acid - 800 mcg
Vit. B12 - 8 mcg
Calcium - 200 mg
Iron - 28 mg
Zinc - 25 mg
The Vitamin B12 I'm taking in a different pill is the same brand with:
B-12 - 1 mg (1000 mcg)
Calcium - 30 mg
The Cranberry I take (for kidneys) is AZO brand and it has 900 mg of Natural Cranberry Powder.
I am not pregnant, I am taking these for health and energy (B12). What's the difference in the two B12's in the prenatal and the seperate B12 pill? Is that too much? Does B12 really give you more energy? I am also taking Phenteremine 37.5 mg. I have been taking it for two weeks, with great results. Since it kills my appetite, I am going to start taking these pills. Let me know if it's okay, or if I should quit.
Answer: There are no problems with the supplements you are taking in combination.
But it is highly unlikely that you have a B-12 deficiency - it's sort of an 'urban myth' that B-12 will give people more energy. When you have anemia from a B-12 deficiency you can feel tired, and correcting that will make you feel you have more energy, but the same isn't true when you take extra B-12 when you're normal. (B-12 is found in meat, eggs, and milk products - unless you are a pure vegan, you've probably got normal levels, and B-12 is the only B vitamin stored by the body.)
Keep taking the multiple vitamin and the cranberry, but save your money on the B-12 supplement.
Question: Prenatal Vitamins? To all who are currently taking prenatal vitamins:
I started these vitamins (Target Brand) about a month ago. I am currently trying to conceive. So far, I am able to take them with no nausea! Could you compare these to your brand that you are taking and let me know if they are the same or different? What brand is yours?
Thanks for your input.
Ingredients:
Vit A 4000 IU (100%) from beta-carotene
Vit C 120 mg
Vit D 400 IU
Vit E 30 IU
Thiamin 1.8 mg
Riboflavin 1.7 mg
Niacin 20 mg
Vit B6 2.6 mg
Folic Acid 800 mcg
Vit B12 8mcg
Calcium 200mg
Iron 28 mg
Zinc 25mg
Thank you for taking the time to look at your vitamins.
Also, does anyone know any good websites that list different vitamins and rate there absorption rate?
Answer: these look good--they are on par w/ the nature made OTC prenatals i was taking, which my doctor approved. yours actually had a bit more of a few vitamins--20 extra mg of vitamin c, 1 mg more iron, nothing major.
one thing to remember is to take your vitamins, and eat healthy. you don't want to overdo it with supplements. also, try and stay away form vitamin water. i was addicted to it when i first became pregnant, and drinking it on top of taking vitamins gave me killer stomach aches.

recently found out i am pregnant. i bought regular over the counter prenatal vitamins and have had no problems with them.
mom is into "all natural" vitamins and has given me the "prenatal kit" which has three different bottles seems like there is ALOT going on in this thing... can you take too much vitamin? or is it good for
thanks to all of you who took the time to even glance over this. the only rude comment i have recieved is from "mom to be at 14"...and i think that says enough in itself. thanks ya'll!
Answer: As long as you are taking enough folate and B vitamins you should be okay. The DHA is a great substance for fetal development as well as the baby's immune system. These nutrients are just being used to suppliment what you are not currently taking in your diet. The folate/folic acid is very very important because it helps with proper development of the brain, eyes, and spinal cord and will protect agains things like spina bifida.
Hope this helps... good luck!
Question: Why am I so unmotivated & unenergetic? I'm not really sure where to post this. I don't know how to describe this to my psychiatrist and I need help. I need to be productive and I am not.
I have been on Effexor XR for years (eight), my current dosage is 300mg. I want to get off of it bc I have not been motivated like I used to be before 2001. My brain is constantly fatigued and I am constantly lazy & unmotivated.
I DO NOT feel depressed or suicidal at the present time.
I have been diagnosed with several psychiatric conditions: GAD, Clinical Depression, ADHD - Inattentive & Cluster C - Avoidant Personality Disorder.
I don't feel like showering, eating, cleaning my home, going outside for any reason/leaving my apartment, etc. I don't know why.
Any help would be appreciated.
Suggesting exercise is like telling a crackhead to just quit. Thanks, but it needs me to be motivated to just clean myself & eat, before I could even workout.
Thanking you in advance.

Answer: you may benefit from having an interest or joining a support group - somewhere you see other people with similar interests or difficulties. i suspect where you are at at the moment has become a habit - your lifestyle routine. i understand that motivation is difficult but you can do it!!~!!
Question: Having a lil' complication ttc- (sorry so long.)? Alright..well, here's the deal- When I was 18 I terminated a pregnancy. I was young, extremely immature and at the time, never thought twice about my decision. Anyways..now that I've basically scared myself for life with the emotional aspect of that decision I made, I'm 26 now and couldn't be more ready to start a family with my husband.
We've been together for over 3 years and have always had unprotected sex. Our first year, he basically pulled out every time we had sex and during our 2nd year, we started trying to conceive. We didn't try every month, but every so often. Now we try a lot more and I've been doing SO much research on trying to calculate my ovulation so I pretty much know about all that fun stuff. I'm just beginning to worry because I never thought it would take this long to get pregnant again. I'm trying not to stress about it because I know that doesn't help. Anyways..my husband is almost 40 and he has a 16 year old daughter already so neither of us are ''infertile''. I've spoken to a gyno for my first time and we are in the beginning stages of trying to figure out whats going on. All my blood work came back fine. The next step is a semen analysis for him. I am on prenatal vitamins and I bought him zinc vitamins since I heard this might help. We are average weight, average health, but he is smoker ( bout a pack every two days ). I know I'm ovulating because I started using Ovulatoin Predictor Kits and I got a positive line on day 16. I get all my period symptoms but one thing is that I always get my cramps on my lower back near my kidneys and wondering if that is normal?
I just dont understand what the problem ( if there is one ) may be and I'm trying really hard not to be too paranoid about anything. We are going to continue to try, but everytime I get a negetive HPT test, I can't handle the emotions and just want to break down and cry.I never thought I'd have a difficult time conceiving.
If anyone has any ideas, other than talk to my gyno, ( since I'm already doing that ) ,they would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: well, it really sounds like your body is functioning how it should... you might want to start charting your basal body temp though because it can reveal some things you might not know otherwise about your cycle. Maybe try to chart a cycle then show your doctor to get an interpretation. I use fertilityfriend.com You take your temp every morning at about the same time and before getting out of bed, and enter the data into the website. Here's my page and charts if you want to take a peek: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/2c49…
It could be that somethings going on with your husband's sperm. It hassss been 16 years since he reproduced, so something may have changed. It's good that he's getting an analysis!
If the analysis turns out fine, it could just be really horrible luck. I just found out that an old friend of mine had been trying for two years and FINALLY got pregnant. I guess the timing was just right for them.
Hopefully your time will come soon. Good luck!!
Question: Which prenatal vitamin is better? I just found out i am pregnate and am now debating on which prenatal vitamin i should buy. I have narrowed it down to what i think is the best two. What are your thoughts?

Answer: The first one as it has the MOST Folic Acid
With the exception of Folic Acid prenatal vitamins are for YOUR benefit - you really don't have to take them at all so long as your eating healthy
My grandmother whom is 96 this May had 7 children and never once took a prenatal vitamin as they didn't HAVE them back then

Question: What vitamin combination should I use for healthy hair and hair growth? I am taking Nourish vitamins by Healthy Hair Plus (http://www.healthyhairplus.com).
These are taken twice a day and contain 40 mg Niacin, 400 mg folic acid, 6mg vitamin B-12, 600 mcg Botin, 92 mg Panthonenic acid, 30 mg chlorophyll, 100 mg iodine, 20 mg zinc oxide, 10 mg manganese gluconate, 30 mg PABA, and 4 mg of each of the essential amino acids.
I have been advised to take Biotin, which I bought in a bottle with 1,000 mcg in each vitamin capsule, and it says to take one per day.
I have also been advised to take a Vitamin-B Complex vitamin daily.
Someone said that prenatal vitamins are great for hair growth.
I take a multivitamin daily as well.
I have some vitamins from hairtopia (http://www.hairboutique.com), too, but I have replaced them with the vitamins from healthy hair plus.
I fear that I might be taking too many vitamins and I would like to know what would be the most beneficial combination for healthy hair!!!!!!
Answer: Good nutrition is vital to healthy hair growth, just as it's essential to overall good health. Although your body needs a variety of vitamins and minerals to maintain proper body functions, there are several that are specific to hair growth and health.
When starting a new vitamin regime, it usually takes from 2 to 3 months to see results in your hair's condition. That means that patience and consistency is very important. It's also important to check with your doctor before starting a vitamin program, especially if you have health concerns.

I just assumed that since you can "overdose" on prenatal vitamins, that something similar could occur when having plan old too much vitamins in a day :) Just making sure!
Answer: A pregnant women can never get enough vitamins. The body takes what it needs and exp ells the rest. It is expelled through your bowel movements. Also through your bladder. This is why your urine turns color's when taking vitamins. The body used what it needed and done away with the rest.
Question: Need the advice of someone who knows herbs really well!!? I was wondering if the herbal stuff and vitamin suppliments are decreasing my cervical fluid along with my chances of getting pregnant. I take TONNES of herbs and vitamins. Is there some list of things I shouldnt take so I can get pregnant along with things i SHOULD take? Please let me know if you need a detailed list of what I take.
ok here is what I take on a daily basis:
Primrose Oil
Vitamins C, BComplex
Calcium
Iron
Seratatia Peptise (for scar tissue)
Maca Root
Prenatal Vitamins
Flaxseed Oil
Cranberry Extract
Zinc
Folic Acid
I think that is it.
Answer: I am a great believer in nutritional supplements including vitamins, minerals and herbs. I didn't see anything that raised any red flags. So I did some net research. To my surprise some of the pro-medicine sites have some positive comments about the use of some herbs pre-, during and post-pregnancy. If you want to educate yourself more visit the links below. I am not recommending any of then but believe that people should make their own educated choices for as much available information as possible.
The only good information I found on the issue of cervical fluid is contained in http://www.friendsandfamilies.com/ttc/ch… for charting ovulation.
Have fun reading, good luck with the pregnancy, and here's wishing you a very happy baby.
PS: I think it's commendable that you are trying to give your body the best possible combinations to facilitate the conception and birth of a healthy child.
Question: Is this a good feeding plan from prenatal to the baby being four months old? *What a prenatal vitamin should contain:
4,000 and 5,000 IU (international units) of vitamin A
800 and 1,000 mcg (1 mg) of folic acid
400 IU of vitamin D
200 to 300 mg of calcium
70 mg of vitamin C
1.5 mg of thiamine
1.6 mg of riboflavin
2.6 mg of pyridoxine
17 mg of niacinamide
2.2 mcg of vitamin B12
10 mg of vitamin E
15 mg of zinc
30 mg of iron
*Food Pyramid:
__6-11 servings bread/grain (1 slice bread, 1/2 cup rice or pasta, 1 flat tortilla, 1/3 cup of pancake batter,2 graham crackers, 2 waffles)
__2-4 servings fruit (1 medium fruit, 1/2 cup of chopped or cooked or canned fruit, 3/4 cup of 100% fruit juice) (High in calcium fruits=oranges, strawberries, and kiwi)
__3-5 servings vegetables (1 cup raw leafy vegetables, ½ cup cooked or raw vegetables, ¾ cup of vegetable juice)
__2-3 servings beans, eggs, lean meat (1 egg, 2 tablespoons peanut butter, 2-3 ounce lean pork, 2-3 ounce lean steak, 2-3 ounce skinless poultry)
__2-3 servings dairy (8 ounces milk, 1 cup yoghurt, 1 slice pizza, 1 cup lasagna, 1 cup macaroni, ½ cup pudding, ½ cup fat free ice cream)
__Sweets used sparingly
*A pregnant mother needs an extra 300 calories a day.
*Do not give the baby solid food until at least four months of age and after some of these criteria are met (Give the baby 2.5 ounces multiplied by it’s body weight each day):
Can hold head up
Sits well in highchair
Makes chewing motions
Shows significant weight gain (birth weight has doubled)
Shows interest in food
Can close mouth around a spoon
Can move food from front to back of mouth
Can move tongue back and forth, but is losing tendency to push food out with tongue
Seems hungry after 8 to 10 feedings of breast milk or 40 oz. of formula in a day
Is teething
*Feed baby every 2-3 hours and slowly lengthen the time between feedings as the baby gets older.
Answer: You need to trust in your bodies more and not in one-size-fits-all menus
The baby will tell you when he/she needs solid food. They'll practically reach on your plate and take it. Before they show this kind of interest its not needed.
they know when they are hungry and how much they want. That means there may be times they eat every half hour for part of the day and then go 5-6 hours without eating.

My diet is not bad. I have endomitriosis but its on my kidney and doesnt affect my fertility. I took most of these herbs before to flush out the birth control in my body used to treat the endo but now the birth control is gone since i am back to regular cycles. I do get exercise as well and have no other medical conditions.
Answer: Im no doctor, but I AM 19 weeks pregnant and I know my doctor has told me to stay away from herbs. The best thing I think you could do, is just start taking a prenatal vitamin everyday, and maybe schedule an appointment with a midwife or an OB-GYN.
Question: I have taken three tests already. After almost three years, I am pregnant. Can you give me some advice? I have taken three Dollar tree tests already and have gotten all positives. After almost three years, I am pregnant. I am stunned. I know the first trimester is an important time to have a healthy lifestyle and to have enough vitamins and minerals. Is it okay if I use Centrum Chewables Orange Flavour to supplement as my prenatal vitamins? I checked the nutritional facts and it has 100% iron and 100% folic acid, the two very important minerals. It also has the other Vitamins A to K, Zinc, Copper, etc.
I want to use the chewables in addition to fortified meals and drinks to get my vitamins and minerals. (ex. orange juice with calcium and vitamin d, yogurt, spinach, etc.)
This is my first pregnancy. I am planning to make an appointment with the doctor soon. What should I do or keep in mind before I get to see the doctor? I know the basics: don't smoke, consume alcohol, etc.
I have another question. Is grapefruit juice okay to drink?
Answer: CONGRATS!!!!
I would just stick with the prenatal vitamins, too much iron isn't so good unless you have an iron deficiency. Eating healthy along with your prenatals is plenty of vitamins for you and your baby.
At your first visit they will do a family history and a well woman exam, and probably some blood work to check you hCg levels and your vitamin levels. They will precribe some prenatals, and ask if you have any questions.
Grapefruit juice is fine to drink while you are pregnant... any juice is.
Again, CONGRATS!
Question: Quick Question about TTC? Hubby and I have been trying to conceive for almost six months now. I will be ovulating around December 9 until around December 13. I was wondering, what can increase my chances of getting pregnant this time around? I am taking prenatal vitamins with folic acid and zinc in them, I drink a lot of water, I have a low stress level. What else could increase our chances? Should we keep from having sex this week to increase hubby's sperm count? I'm sorry if I seem like I am rambling, but we just really want to see a BFP this time around.
Answer: Actually what can increase your chances of conception is to have sex every second day as sperm can live up to 5 days in the vagina, this will leave a continuous Supply in there for when you ovulate, it will also increase your husbands sperm production,
leaving it will decrease it, also another good thing is to prop your bottom up on some pillows durning sex and then stay like that for about 10 Min's afterwards, I send you loads of baby dust and hope you have good news soon :o)
Question: Fertility blend vitamin for hubbys low sperm count?? My hubby and I are TTC and he has gone from zero sperm to having 1 mil. Since our last appointment, I've been feeding him my prenatal vitamins......which was suggested by our fertility doc. I know zinc and folic acid will improve his sperm count along with the other healthy sperm guidelines......no hot tubs, loose clothing, avoid alcohol/tabaco, etc. My hubby is very fit but we own our own business and he is stressed out and does hard labor most of the time.
I am looking for a vitamin designed to give him the fullest amount of zinc and folic acid that he should have. Our doc has prescribed chlomid for him but we are waiting until Nov when things start to settle down before he'll start taking it. He then has to go in for another SA test.
Your help is appreciatated and any stories are definately welcome.
Answer: Hey Cate :) My husband had low count, morph and motility. I had heard great things about the GNC vitamins Men's Fertility Blend Vitamin.(it has a dark green label) My husband started taking 3 pills a day (I forgot, whatever the max dose is) He complained it was nasty but who cares it did the job! LOL His motility, morph and count went up by 5X! Now by 5X i mean his count went from like 2 million to 10 million for my Clomid insemination cycle which was perfect! His morph and motility were like 4% and they went up to 50%! The problem that cycle was me, my egg just wasnt up to snuff. :( I would say have him take the vites for as long as possible at the maximum dose and it will help!! If it worked for my DH then i feel very strongly it will work for lots of people!! BTW the bottle of Fertility Blend was i BELIEVE$40 for 60 pills.
Good luck!!!
Question: people ask me what did i do to get pregnant after so long of trying. i said i figured it out by....? i took zinc(in the green vitamin bottle) like $4.00 at walmart, with a prenatal vitamin everyday. i slept alot and had sex EVERYDAY alot during the day. ate very healthy, and i rarely worked out so i wont lie about that. this was the only difference that i did and i got pregnant within 2-3months. idk it helped me ovulate again so i know what to do if it happens again(not ovulating). give it a try, u never know =) i'm 10weeks pregnant now
Answer: congrats! i have pcos and haven't menstruated in almost a year, i do have back pain right now tho, i'm thinking of going back on the vitex, so i will consider taking zinc too! bestof luck with the pregnancy
Question: Fertility Problems- I am 27 and husband 38? My husband and I have been trying to conceive since January 2008. I got off birth control in July 2007, thinking I would need six months to regulate my body. In April 2008, I had a chemical pregnacy (confirmed at obgyn office) and miscarried at about 4 weeks. My doctor then suggested Clomid (as I was ovulating late in my cycle verified by vaginal sonogram--cycle is typically 28 days and I ovulated between days 18 and 21)and gave me three months worth. I used it for the first two months and nothing happened except for emotional issues. Recently, my husband went to a urologist who ordered two semen analysis. The first one came back good in all areas except sperm morphology (39) and the nurse said 80-100 was normal range. He is scheduled to go next week for another as the doctor does not want to make decisions based on one test. We exercise regularly (run at least 20 miles per week), we are both at a healthy weight, have had physicals, I am on prenatal vitamins, he is on a multivitamin and taking extra zinc and Vit C, my periods come at 27-29 day intervals. I do notice I am still feeling ovulation pangs late (day 18-21). I am also taking Synthroid as I had part of my thyroid removed two years ago due to cancerous cysts. I also have HPV and have been treated with cryo three times in the past 7-8 years for dysplasia (mild to moderate). My obgyn is wonderful, she listens, and wants to help us out as much as possible before going to the fertility specialist. Our insurance doesn't cover that. My premenstrual symptoms vary each month...sometimes sore breasts, sometimes extreme fatigue, sometimes mucus and then other months, I have no symptoms. My question is, where do we go next? Does it sound like the problem lies with me, my husband or both of us? I know the stress of the situation isn't helping, but how can you not when all you desire is a child. Any help, suggestions, or anything would help. Thank you!
Answer: If your husbands sperm are slightly abnormal, then i would think more frequent sex is in order. This means that sperm that is released is as fresh as possible, and has not had much time to degenerate whilst waiting to be ejaculated.
While sex every two days is recommended for normal sperm count guys TTC, if your sperm is abnormal, then more frequent sex is recommended if the sperm count is normal. yes, it drops that sperm count a tiny bit, but the quality of the sperm increases.

This link is to a news article which supports what i am saying. The Dr Greening mentioned is actually my Obgyn. He got hubby and I pregnant within 3 months after we'd been TTC for a year and 9 months already. I got pregnant naturally thanks to his care.
This is something that might be worth discussing with your Doc. Good luck :)
Question: i'd like to know why it's always only 25-30% chance of concieving? For any healthly couple with no fertility issues (we had a baby in 2008)
I have a high score on fertility friend as we have BD all the right days. We have been taking vitamins, me prenatal pregnacare conception & hubby has been taking zinc (iknow it helps sperm) so we gave it a try. We have used pre-seed and used the pillow under the bum for 40 mins each time method (thats been fun) (",)
Therefore, i'd like to know if the sperm is there waiting, there at ovulation and then the day after ovulation why is it still only a 25% chance?
Im really curious :)
Thanks all

and there are so many others factors, which to be honest are just plain old luck xx

Question: vitamins for super fast hair growth? Hey i was just wondering what vitamins would help with hair growth. I really want atleast 3 more inches soon. I know hair grows at about 1/2 and inch every month but i've heard certain vitamins help it grow heaps faster like prenatal. I like in Australia though so i don't know where to get them, how much they cost or if i need a doctor's prescription. Any ideas or suggestions? I've already tried zinc but that didn't really help lol. Thanks :)
opps i mean i live in Australia. Soz! :)
Answer: You could try biotin it is for hair growth and is good for nails and skin. Also, there is a vitamin called hair, skin and nails.Hope this helps if you could not find it in the stores maybe order it online.
Question: prenatal question? i take an iron tablet with vitamin b12 and all the other b's as well as zinc sulphate and folic acid all in the one pill, its called ferrup. anyway i wanted to know if it was ok if i take as well materna its made by wyeth this is the link http://www.wyeth.com.cn/english/Products…
it wont hurt to take both right?
Answer: It is possible to build up too much iron and zinc. If you have too much B6 it can cause nerve damage. It just depends on how much are in both. Compare the ingredients in both. If it were me I would choose the one that has the higher amount of the same ingredients. Since they both, I assume, have the Bs, Zince, Iron, and Folic acid, I would choose the one with most of those. Plus the prenatal vitamin will probably have additional ingredients like Vitamins A, C, D, E, and Selenium, Calcium, and Magnesium. Good luck!

A proper diet usually covers all of these areas, but Dr. Walsh does recommend prenatal vitamins for women. Price does not matter as long as it contains at least 400 milligrams of folic acid, which helps prevent birth defects.
