Zoladex
Question: Can I get pregnant while on ZOLADEX? I have had two injections of Zoladex and am curious if I can even become pregnant while on it. My boyfriend and I did not use any protection this week because my doctor said that I only needed to use protection for the first month. Now I'm looking up the info online and starting to get freaked out!!!! He said my periods would stop so I wouldn't even know if I missed because of pregnancy or Zoladex.
Answer: first month yes there is a chance you can get pregnant on it just make sure you use another protection some women are different .
Question: Breast Cancer, Zoladex (Goserelin) is good or not? Hi everybody,
The oncologist recommends Zoladex (Goserelin) to be injected in her body once a month on the top of Tamoxifen to shutdown the ovaries. He said It reduces significantly the recurrence because she is under 50 years old and ER+.
Considering that she has to go for this injection once a month and the side effects, is it worth it?
We are out of the Country now, do you know if Zoladex covered in Canada?
Thanks
Answer: I think that sounds extreme. Shutting down the ovaries just throws the endocrine system into imbalance. She doesn't need to completely block the estrogens in her body (and yes, there is more than one "estrogen". it's not just one hormone, it is a family of hormones). What she needs to do is make sure it's balanced with her other hormones. And that the primary estrogens in her body are the healthier, weaker estrogens. She also needs to make sure that she is producing or getting enough progesterone.

Question: What's the possibility of amenorrhea after taking Zoladex 10,8? I took a depot of Zoladex 10,8 in september 2006. It's May 2007 and nothing yet... I still feel the effects of that sh*t, I mean, shot.
Answer: It is possible for a woman to have amenorrhea after taking Zoladex. The lab says the possibility isn't big, but it shouldn't be ignored. They can't give exact numbers or a percentage of women who had it after taking the shot, what makes me skeptic when they say it doesn't happen too often.. it seems like they don't want to reveal how dangerous that shot is!
If you didn't have your period back after all this time, you should consider talking to your doctor.
You should get hormonal exams and check what's going on with your body. Zoladex 3,6 is safer for women, even though it has bad side effects, too. Zoladex 10,8 isn't even indicated to women, due to its capacity of provoking serious problems as amenorrhea. Just in case you don't know, Zoladex is even used to treat cancer!! It's not just a medicine anyone can take...
Good luck!

Answer: you must avoid pregancy like the plague!! This drug may cause fetal complications, so use alternative methods of contraception.
Question: Does anyone know why Lupron and/or Zoladex are still so expensive? My husband has been taking Lupron shots for prostate cancer for 8 years - off and on. Why is Lupron still so terribly expensive if it has been around this long? In the states, the cost was over $2,000 for a three month shot. Now, we live in Mexico and learned about Zoladex (Soladex) available here for $700 for a three month shot for basically the same thing. Even $700 is riduculously expensive. Are the drug companies trying to add to the misery of having cancer by financially ruining those unfortunates?
Answer: A great deal of Takeda Abbott's overall income comes from the sale of Lupron, thereby making it one of the most lucrative drugs in the world (this is even despite the record $875million fines they had to pay out under the federal RICO statutes for fraudulent pricing schemes and doctor kickbacks). It also is pricey due in part to the fact that TAP has had a lock-up on the patent until very recently, which did not allow for generic Leuprolide sales until the immediate past few years. TAP (a joint venture between the US-based Abbott Pharma and Japan's Takeda Corp.) also has a chokehold on the GnRH market around the globe.
Zoladex, on the other hand, is a Goserelin implant made by AstraZeneca, which, while it has US holdings and offices around the world, is a United Kingdom corporation whose major product line(s) are not geared towards the GnRH family (in general). So, they are typically a bit cheaper.
In any event, TAP has a Patient Assistance Program which might interest you. It allows for patients to get reduced and even free Lupron depending on their circumstances. Call 800-830-1015 and ask for the Lupron assistance program for more info.
Also - see if you can obtain Viadur in place of the Leuprolide. It might cost much less. See http://www.viadur.com/about/answers.htm for more info.
Hope that helps.
Question: Has any study shown that the hormone Zoladex completely wipes out Prostate cancer? I am 65 with Stage IV prostate cancer that doctors said is aggressive and has metastasized to the lumbar bone. I was given up to two years to take Zoladex hormone shot every three months to suppress the cancer. After that, the next recommended treatment is chemotherapy.
Any comments the on basic question or the recommended treatment?
Answer: I am 67 and have had Prostate Cancer. My doctor has a very high success rate here in Chicago. He is an Oncologist as well as a Urologist. Operations and "Seeds" don't seem to wotk too well. His treatments do. I wish there was some way to communicate. He is really very good. He cured me.
Question: What effect does zoladex have on thyroid function and thyroid medication? I.e prostate cancer etc
Answer: I have checked this in all the major references i.e stockleys drug interactions, BNF, and martindale and i can find no mention of ANY interaction at all between the two. It seems they do not interact.
Question: Zoladex - I have just started a course of Zoladex, Is this a side effect? I have just had my first dose of Zoladex to prepare my womb for a TCRE op in 2 months time. Since the first jab, last Monday, my wee has been really smelly, not a normal starong urine smell, but something quite different! The colour hasnt changed, although it may be slightly cloudy.
Could this be a side effect?
Thanks
I am on other medication too, but the pharmacist knows wbout that.....
Answer: It sounds more like a UTI. I suspect an antibiotic may be needed. Contact NHS Direct.
Question: I get Zoladex Injections every 28 days, my whole body has gone to hell, this is my last Injection until march? I've been getting them for 5 months and everything has stopped, they gave me them for pains in my lower abdomen, to which I was near passing out with, the pain threshold is down to about a 3, but I wont be back to the hospital until March, what should I expect? I'm 38 and their talking about a hysterectomy!
Answer: As your body gets adjusted to being off the medication you may notice some irregular bleeding.
As for the issue of hysterectomy I would recommend getting another opinion just to cover all bases.
Question: How long does it take for a woman to have her periods back after taking zoladex depot 10,8? Zoladex had put me into a state of menopause, I took it in September 2006 and still didn't have any periods in the middle of january... I've read on the web that there are (little) chances that the menopause effects can be permanent.... so I hope it's not my case... please describe me your experience with zoladex 10,8 or tell me when I'll be a "normal" person again....
please, answer ONLY if you can help and answer THIS question.
Answer: There is no real way to tell if the effect is going to be permanant. You may be able to get some blood tests which show your blood levels of hormones which may gove a better picture of what your body is doing. I suggest you talk to a doctor about getting some tests done;
Question: how long does it take for a woman to have her period after taking zoladex depot 10,8? I took a shot of zoladex depot 10,8 in september (2006) and still don't have my period back to normal (in the middle of january 2007) and feel many side effects. Could anyone who has taken this medicine or tell me how long it takes 'til our bodies come back to normal? Can you describe me all your experience and if the medicine helped at all?
Thanks a lot!
of course I saw my dr. already (HE prescribed me that shot), but he couldn't give me an answer about it - that's why I'm asking this to someone who has passed through the same situation. Please, just answer if you KNOW something about it. tHanks
Answer: I have never taken it, but I would STRONGLY recommend that you go in and see your Dr. You need to share all of your fears, worries, and questions with your caregiver. If you can talk to them about this I would find a different Dr.
Sorry I am not able to help more.
Question: How soon after comming of zoladex can u concive??
Answer: depends how quick he comes off, and im not talking bout the zoladex
Question: i got the zoladex injection and did not take the next one 28 days later.i have not seen my period for 60 days? I got the zoladex cos i was having prolonged bleeding and it was meant to stop the bleeding. The bleeding stopped so i did not take the next dose.I have not seen any blood since then.i think i am pregnant but the test results have been negative.Want to know if anyone has experienced this.
Answer: Zoladex usually stops menstruation. Delayed or missed doses of Zoladex may cause ovulation or menstrual bleeding. Following treatment with Zoladex, there may be a delay before the return of regular menstrual periods. Check with your doctor if your period does not restart within a few months of ending treatment.
you're probably not pregnant, but you're in the delay stage
Question: Need to lose at least 20lbs before xmas but am on Tamoxifen and Zoladex...any tips? Hi
Im on Tamoxifen and Zoladex due to having Breast cancer in june 2008. I have put on around 20lbs and its really getting me down. I have made a target to lose this before xmas....any tips?
Answer: Dieting is pointless exercise is the only way. I was i a wheelchair and then very inactive for several years after a bad accident and i got fat. I started cycling for 30-60 minutes a few times a week. i only started 4 weeks ago and my MOOB's are nearly gone. it's fun too
Good luck
Question: does zoladex affect the accuracy of a pregnancy test result? I took a shot of zoladex 10,8 mg in Sept. 2006, had my first period in February 2007 and still didn't have my 2nd period. I'd like to know if it could be effect of Zoladex, but I'll have a pregnancy test. I'm just afraid that the accuracy of the result can be affected... if you know the answer please tell me, don't forget to say if it makes the test + or -... please, write only if you know the answer. Thank you!!
Answer: As someone who has taken Zoladex I can tell you that even when coming off of it it can alter the period for a time. But I would recommend double checking with your dr about the issue of +/- when it comes to what kind of an effect on a pregnancy test.
Question: Hi I had breast cancer last year 2007 and i am on tamoxifen and zoladex injection i have put lots of weight on? have other patients experienced this and can you suggest what to do to control this i am not eating much extra and im not one for the gym
Answer: I'm on the Tamoxifen myself and am having a heck of a time with the weight. I don't feel I'm eating out of control but have put on 30 lbs since my last 3 rounds of Chemo in August! First I thought it was just steroid weight and my Onco told me not to worry, just to get better, But I'm basically 'better' now and just getting bigger and bigger... damn menopause!!! With my second reconstruction this upcoming April, I know I need to start attacking this now.
So I've exchanged my breakfast sandwich for a yogurt/protein powder smoothie and have have joined a ladies only gym. With all the ages, shapes and sizes there it's not intimidating and I'm finding I really look forward to the 'me' time. Have told hubby he has to start dinner on the days I go because I go straight from work and he's been very good about it.
So, you're not alone with this, see what works for you and maybe you have a female friend who could join you and make a work-out fun for you! If you have a Curves for Women in your area, that's just a 30 minute work out and you will see results if you go 3 times a week. I wish you Health!
Question: is there a link between zoladex and high blood pressure? zoladex is an injection that is used to control hormones
Answer: High blood pressure is listed under the 'less common side effects' of the information for this drug, so there is a possibility that it can cause such a thing. Fluid retention and swelling are listed as 'more common' side effects, and that can lead to higher blood pressure in some cases.
If your doctor is aware of the blood pressure issue, and has taken no excessive actions (i.e., they didn't instantly remove the implant), you should be fine for the duration of treatment. Cutting down on salt and highly processed foods may help limit blood pressure, but only try that after discussing it with your doctor. If you've been told to limit salt, do that as soon as you can, and avoid packaged mixes, especially of rice/pasta, etc., as these are quite high in sodium. Read the labels of your food choices really well, and you should do fine, they show sodium content.
Question: Anyone with Zoladex and Endometriosis experience? I have had endo for 4 years now (diagnosed). I have had 2 laproscopys, 6 months of montly depo shots, and 6 months of montly zoladex shots. I had my last shot in february. I was supposed to start my pariod 3 months after the last shot and I did, in May. I did not have a period in June, or July. We are getting close to August and still no period. My doc said it is from the zoladex but it really bothers me. Has anyone had simliar experiences or can offer some advice about the months after Zoladex? I'm not pregant I took a blood test last week and it was negative.
I meant PERIOD. Oops.
Thanks Karen I am aware of the delay, but the thing is I had a NORMAL period three months after ending treatment, so I started when I should have. Then I had NOTHING. I'm willing to accept that it is a delay but I just think it is weird that I started for one month and have now had 2 months of nothing. I appreciate you looking that up, though.
Answer: i think you and my wife have the same problem, you should email me and you and her can talk, i think it would help.
Question: over the past month i have been walking up at night needing to drink and drink, (also on zoladex)why is this?
Answer: i do it to. its perfectly normal
Question: does anyone know is zoladex injections can put weight on you? i have endometriosis and have to have these injections for 6 months i have lost 3 stone and have a lot more to lose so i am worried about weight gain
Answer: Yes, I had Zoladex injections in between 2 laps as the endo was out of control at that stage. After 4 laps, LOTS of prayer, a course of Zoladex and following a healthier lifestyle (see Lori's website for the ENDO DIET), my gynaecologist says that the endo has receeded a lot. I would love to say that the Zoladex did it on it's own, but I think the combination of factors led me to the point I am today.
I use progesterone cream from day 16-24, vitamin and omega 3 supplements, try and eat less sugar, dairy, wheat, beef, caffeine and alcohol. I have not cut these things out entirely, but I try not to overindulge. I exercise, and try and pack my own lunches to work so that I don't eat rubbish. Mostly leftovers from the night before, with fruit added.
